Read through the list of calls again. Such great ideas from everyone. Ones I find myself agreeing with easily, others I continue to think on, and some I don’t know if we will ever get a viable answer to, but love seeing what everyone thinks. 😀

I’m with you. These writers are often unpredictable, that is what makes us love the show so much. And I admit most of the time I am pleasantly surprised at what they have come up with. So trying to predict what has happened or will happen to SB and the people/characters in it, is something I am trying to hang on to loosely. I am wondering if Rumpel, as calculating as he is, really understands what he is doing. Regina made it pretty clear to Emma that magic used in this world is unpredictable, so I am interested to see how that plays out this next season, made from true love or not. He seems to have placed his “ducks in order” so to speak in FTL before coming to this world in an effort to be ready, but we shall see if he was truly prepared for every contingency.
The writers have said to some degree that they wrote that part specifically for Robert Carlyle. He did not audition to be on the show, they wanted him. In many ways what you say is probably true. And Robert Carlyle has rocked as Rumpel/Mr. Gold. I will be severely disappointed if he is not up for an Emmy in the fall.
A couple of things to consider:
Remembering that the BF siad to Bae that it was Rumpel’s love for him that kept some part of him human. So would the same apply for Belle. If he makes room in his heart to love her will it help him retain more of his humanness? What if we add a grandchild at some point? All these loving relationships throughout the seasons may be what keeps him from fully becoming the Dark One whose soul is consumed.I also wonder if the deal of Belle saying she would stay with Rumple forever in Skin Deep will be revisited at all, although he released her when he sent her away, I suppose.
I think there will be some amends that need to be made to Belle’s father, who obviously had no idea what he was talking about when Gold beat him in Skin Deep. Does Rumple do amends?
Like many of you, didn’t expect a full reunion like they gave us. Expected his discovery of Belle to be a cliffhanger.
I will say when Belle called his name, he seemed tentative and uncertain as to what she might say or do as he turned around. I think when she said she loved him he seemed relieved and able to let his guard down enough to return an I love you he had been longing to say for many years.
Somehow he had to know that Charming and Snow White would continue to find each other. The finale makes it clear that he wanted this to happen, and so he helped it along when the chance presented itself.
Snow came to him for the potion to forget, so he got her hair
Snow came to him to kill the EQ, and he got Charming’s cloak with his hair when he came to find her.
The bow and arrow he gave SW found it’s mark and provided the opportunity for Charming to restore SW’s memory of him.
Then he met up with Charming and coerced him into a deal, not because Charming was particularly desperate at this point (although he would have become so after some time), but because Rumplestiltskin needed them to find each other at this point. He needed what their “true love” would produce — Emma and I also think the powerful magic of true love.How did he know to await Charming there? The queen decided on a whim to send him?

In the episode That Still Small Voice, it is revealed that Rumplestiltskin had a business relationship with Jiminy Cricket, who would bring him possessions stolen by his parents during their travels as puppeteers in exchange for Rumplestiltskin’s gold thread. One day, sensing that Jiminy had become disillusioned with being forced into a life of deceit and thievery, Rumplestiltskin offered him the chance to escape by giving him a magic potion that would take care of his parents for good. In return, Rumplestiltskin only asked that he be given Jiminy’s parents after they had taken the potion, as it would count as his fee. However, Jiminy’s plan backfired when his parents switched Rumplestiltskin’s potion with a bottle of rainwater they had planned to give to another swindled couple. After learning that the couple had been turned into marionettes through the potion, Jiminy left his parents and made another deal with the Blue Fairy to become a cricket in order to mentor the couple’s now orphaned son, Geppetto. In The Price of Gold, Rumplestiltskin destroys Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother just afer she appears to soon-to-be-princess, stealing the Fairy Godmother’s wand in turn. In exchange for something “precious” to Cinderella—which turned out to be her firstborn child—he uses the wand to bless her with a magical night at Prince Thomas’ ball. When Cinderella confesses the terms of her deal with Rumplestiltskin to Prince Thomas, he concocted a plan to trap Rumplestiltskin. In the episode The Shepherd, it is revealed that King George was childless and wanted a son. Rumplestiltskin gave King George a peasant infant to raise as his son in exchange for an unidentified “pittance”. Many years later, son is killed in a duel, after he had agreed to slay a dragon in the kingdom of Midas in return for gold that George’s kingdom desparately needs. When King George asked Rumplestiltskin for help, Rumplestiltskin brings him the son’s twin brother in exchange for the location of the Fairy Godmother, elaborating that her death in The Price of Gold happened as a result of this particular deal. In the episode 7:15 A.M. Rumplestiltskin made a deal with Snow White in exchange for a potion which would allow her to forget her memories of Prince Charming so that he would be able to fulfill his responsibilities to his father’s kingdom. In the episode Skin Deep Rumplestiltskin made a deal with with Princess Belle that she should forever be caretaker of his estate in return for protecting her father’s kingdom from the ogres. Through her stay in his castle, Belle learned that Rumpelstiltskin had once had a son who shared his kingdom, but now had left him all alone, causing him to seek company which Belle could provide. Rumplestiltskin later broke this deal himself, releasing Belle from their arrangement after suspecting that she was in league with the Evil Queen planning usurp his power. This assumption turned out to be false. The Evil Queen had manipulated Belle into kissing Rumplestiltskin and having him be cured of his evil by the magic of true love, a spell which Rumplestiltskin resisted, believing himself to be unlovable, and still needing his magic in order to find his long-lost son.Snow White’s Location in Exchange for Prince James’s Cloak
In the episode “Heart of Darkness” Prince James demands Rumplestiltskin tell him where Snow White is upon learning of Snow White bloodthirsty acts against the Queen. He agrees, but only if he will give him his cloak, claiming it is drafty in his castle. James takes off his cloak and Rumplestiltskin show him a map of where Snow is. James leaves and Rumplestiltskin picks up the cloak, smells it then leaves. He later pulls hair from the cloak and puts it in a bottle with Snow White’s hair to form a true love potion.Baelfire’s Happiness in Exchange for his Powers
In the episode “The Return,” Baelfire wants his father to give up his powers. Baelfire meets with the Blue Fairy and she gives him a magic bean which will take them to a world without magic. Baelfire takes his father into the woods and throws the bean on the ground. A portal opens up and Baelfire starts to enter; however, Rumplestiltskin cannot bring himself to do so. Baelfire calls his father a coward before he falls into the portal. Rumplestiltskin is upset afterwords and regrets this decision with all his heart. (Note: This is the one deal Rumplestiltskin has broken.)Prince Charming’s Mother’s Ring and a Way out of the Infinite Forest for placing the bottle of love in the Belly of a Beast
in the season one finale “Land without Magic” Prince Charming escapes the clutches of the Evil Queen to find himself transported to the Infinite Forest and an awaiting Rumplestiltskin. Having stolen his mother’s ring through the use of magic, Rumpelstiltskin enchants the ring to find Snow White and offers the ring back to Charming for a price. A sword fight ensues with Rumplestiltskin taking the upper hand and telling the Prince “this is a deal you want to make.” Charming then follows up on a quest for Rumplestiltskin to place the bottle of love, which has been enclosed inside of an ornate egg, inside Malificent in dragon form. Returning to Rumplestiltskin he is given the ring and a new outfil for “his big moment.”
