ParticipantEveryone should closely re-read what the writers themselves actually said in the EW interview:
Can you tease anything about the cursed versions of your familiar characters?
KITSIS: When we find them in Seattle, they will be under cursed personas.
HOROWITZ: They’re different than the cursed personas we’ve seen before. While it’s Regina that you’ve been with for six seasons, what she is now in Seattle is something different. What it’s allowing us to do is see these same characters in a new way. Also, Hook never had a cursed persona, so this allows us to do something we haven’t done with Hook before. They’re the same characters but being seen in a new way because Regina and Hook were never cursed before. There isn’t anything that tricky going on here. They aren’t new iterations like Cinderella. They’re the same characters as before with new false identities, just like season one.
GOODMAN: And it’s been really fun as we enter in season 7 with these cursed personas, but seeing how we can reflect these characters that people have known and loved underneath, and see the ways that they’re bubbling through, and we’re seeing who they were, but in this new guise.
These are the same characters that people have known and loved underneath just with cursed personas. That’s it. No funny business, no clones, just the same characters we’ve always known but with new identities (i.e. Roni, Rogers, and Weaver, or whatever Rumple is called now).

ParticipantI mean…Hook, prior to the curse happening say to Henry, “You may not have my blood, but I loved your father and I love your mother. We’re family and we’ll get through this together.” *That* is what the story should be.
THAT is the story I want for Henry, Hook, Regina, and Rumple. I want a family connection like S1. I don’t want any clones who have no real connection to the story. It has to be Henry’s real family bonds that matter. That is what carries real value and gravitas, not some cheap knock-off version of Hook 2.0.

ParticipantI think we’re pretty much on the same page. Could I see the writers doing something really dumb like splitting Hook in half and giving one half of him a happy ending with Emma in the EF? Absolutley. In fact, they did something very similar with the Evil Queen and Wish Realm Robin at the end of season six. However, I also went back and read the EW article from September 26, 2017. What A&E actually said was:
Can you tease anything about the cursed versions of your familiar characters?
KITSIS: When we find them in Seattle, they will be under cursed personas.
HOROWITZ: They’re different than the cursed personas we’ve seen before. While it’s Regina that you’ve been with for six seasons, what she is now in Seattle is something different. The showrunners specifically said that these are cursed personas of these same characters but that they’re being seen in a new way because technically Regina & Hook have never been cursed before. The writers specifically said that because Hook never had a cursed persona that has allowed them to do something “new” with him (i.e. a new identity to play). I think that is what Colin was talking about having a new version of Hook to play (i.e. a new cursed persona, as A&E specifically said). Plus, Goodman specifically said that despite these cursed personas we can still see hints of these old characters that we’ve known all along coming through. (i.e. they have a connection to the past because they’re still the same characters beneath). It’s similar to when we could see hints of Snow White in Mary Margaret like her love of birds and her connection with David Nolan, yet because she was cursed she lacked courage and things like that. In conclusion, it’s a just matter of semantics to me, and there isn’t really a lingustic difference between words like different or alternate. It’s just difficult to describe something “new” that we’ve actually seen before in season one (cursed personas).

ParticipantI really did listen carefully to Colin’s soundbite, but we have to keep in mind several things. First, Colin has never played a cursed version of Hook because he wasn’t even in season one, so it’d only be natural for Colin to talk about Rogers as being like a new character to him who is different from the old Hook. Colin also talked as if Hook and Emma have a happy ending, but I think we have to take this with a huge grain of salt because we know several other things: Jennifer isn’t coming back, there is a petrified bug beneath the troll bridge in Hyperion Hights, and Adam and Eddy said this would be an “emotional curtain call” for Emma. Would they have used those words if everything were dandy with Emma? I don’t think so because that choice of words connotes bittersweet or even sad emotions. A&E also said they aren’t interested in telling happy endings but in happy beginnings, and technically Emma and Hook already had their “happy beginning” when they tied the knot, so it’s not technically wrong to tell fans that Hook and Emma already had theirs. Also, A&E, not Colin, are the showrunners. As they said in their soundbite, some of Henry’s family return to help him, and they name each of the family members: Rumple, Regina, Hook. So, these are the same characters from before, and they have a history with Henry. They aren’t brand-new characters from a different dimension the way Cinderella is. Regina is still Henry’s adopted mother; Rumple is still Hook’s grandfather, and Hook is still Henry’s step-dad/quasi step-grandpa. They’re the same characters as before except now they have cursed identities the way Mary Margaret, David Nolan, Archie Hopper, and all the rest were cursed alter egos in season one.

ParticipantThere is no need to resort to personal attacks. We can disagree civilly, don’t you think? At least, I hope so. Anway, we need to also consider what Adam and Eddy said in their soundbite:
“Eddy: Henry finds himself in Seattle under a new curse. We know that some of his family has come to help him. We see we see Rumplestiltskin, we see Captain Hook, and we see Regina. So you know for us, we really wanted to give some our characters like Snow, and Charming, and… their happy ending, but we feel like although we’ve ended the chapater of that story, it’s time to start a new one.”
Adam: “Yeah, season seven is the start of a new chapter. Some of the characters return. Some new ones join us. We begin a new adventure.”
“Some of the characters return” means the characters we’ve known for 5-6 seasons. Also, these are Henry’s family members we’re talking about who’ve come to help him: Rumple, Hook, and Regina. They’re not some clone characters because they have a connection to Henry and a past history with him. They only thing different this time is that Rumple, Regina, and Hook are cursed with new identities, but I expect they’ll get their memories back whenever the new curse is broken (or maybe even before then like Graham did).

ParticipantIn the first one, Eddy said we wanted to give some of our characters like Snow and Charming a happy ending and it was almost like for a second he was going to say and Emma, but stopped. Makes me think she isn’t.
Eddy Kitsis: “So you know for us, we really wanted to give some our characters like Snow, and Charming, and… their happy ending, but we feel like although we’ve ended the chapater of that, it’s time to start a new one.”
I think that you may be right. Eddy was probably going to add to the list of characters who get a happy ending, but it’s almost like he stopped himself on purpose from saying Emma’s name.

ParticipantColin’s words is fan interpretation? Interesting logic right there on your part.
No, but your interpretation of his words is, the same as mine.

ParticipantI see I struck a nerve, but you don’t have any more “insider” knowledge than I do. It’s all just fan speculation and interpretation at the end of the day until 7×2 airs.

ParticipantColin confirms here he is playing an alternate version of Hook and the previous version of Hook is living his happily ever after with Emma.
I listened to the interview. What Colin actually said was that this is a different version of Hook, not a totally different character. He may simply have meant that he is playing a cursed version of his old character, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t the same Killian Jones deep down. It’s the same way that Mary Margaret was a cursed or different version of Snow White but she was still Snow White deep down. I doubt Rogers is some sort of clone with no connection to the past.
Also, Eddy and Adam have said repeatedly that it will be an “emotional curtain call” for Emma. I don’t know how much clearer they can be without spoiling it. I think she will have turned to stone in the bug beneath the troll bridge that we’ve probably all seen in spoiler pics. I don’t know exactly how it will happen, but it’s going to be an emotional ending for her fans that gives a final resolution to her story because Jennifer Morrison most likely is not going to return. A&E’s choice of words doesn’t connote a happy ending to me. A&E are more in the know that even Colin, so they’re the ones who know what is really going to happen. I think it’s wise to brace oneself for a bittersweet ending for her rather than a happy one.

ParticipantThat is an unconfirmed popular theory among CS fans because they like to slant what has actually been said in favor of their own wishes. What Colin actually said is that he playing an alternate version of Hook, but he probably just meant he is playing a cursed version of Hook (i.e. Rogers). Rogers isn’t some sort of clone who never knew Emma or anything like that. Rather, he is a cursed version of Hook and simply doens’t remember her the way Mary Margaret was a cursed alter ego of Snow White.
