ParticipantNew series low. Yeah, I can believe it. 4×17 was my least fave episode so far of my least fave season–and that’s saying something after the disaster that was the Evil-Warlord-Bo-Peep-and-David episode, 4×2. And saying the ratings will go back up isn’t saying much…because even going up two or three tenths isn’t much of a “bump” when the average of 4b I suspect will be lower than any other half season (including 3b).

ParticipantI think the thickening of the blood is something very specific to dark ones being the price of their curse. I don’t think general users of dark magic (e.g. Regina, Zelena, Cora) were afflicted with this particular price of magic–though they may have had to pay in other ways (e.g. the hole left in Regina’s heart was a price of casting the dark curse).

ParticipantLet’s not forget to add Mulan to the list. Where is she exactly? She joined Robin Hood and his gang of merry men (er, people) at the end of 3×3 after she found out Aurora was expecting a baby. Now Robin Hood’s gang are camping in the woods of SB. Are we to believe Mulan is there too? She seems to have dropped off of the map.

ParticipantI’m not at all happy to see Zelena survived while Baelfire did not. I’m not at all pleased to watch Zelena gloat over Rumple as he is near death. Zelena is perhaps my least favorite villain of all time — even worse that Peter Pan. As I wrote in another thread, why does karma apply to Rumple but not to Zelena? She did some awful things to Rumple (i.e. killing his son, controlling Rumple like a puppet), killed Maid Marian, turned people into flying monkeys, and only God knows what else she did to Glinda and the citizens of Oz during her reign of terror there.

ParticipantHere are some other questions and potential plot holes to consider about dark one mythology. Rumple said he’d used magic back in SB to keep his blood from thickening. How long has this affliction of coagulating blood been affecting him? Is this a medical condition that affected him in the Enchanted Forest? Have previous dark ones also faced this condition, and if so, why didn’t Zoso let nature take its course and let his thick blood kill him, rather than tricking Rumple into being the next dark one? And if the thickening of the blood is something that dark ones frequently experience, then why didn’t Rumple need the magic potion in SB before there was magic? Are we to believe that Rumple had brought over a huge reserve of magic potion with him in the first curse to last him 28 years? Remember, magic couldn’t be created in ALWM, but magical objects could be used.

ParticipantThis episode was probably my least fave of all of s4 — and that’s saying something since S4 is my least favorite of all. This episode just made me really miss Baelfire. Then it made me really angry that his murderer survived. His father was forced to relive that horrible time while she gloated over his dying body, and as he faced her, he was forced to admit that his noble sacrifice had been undone, his son was dead, Bae’s death was still unavenged, and Rumple couldn’t do anything about it because Zelena had him cornered. Does karma only apply to Rumple and not Zelena? #SoDone

ParticipantSo Rumple’s blood is coagulating now in NYC? Why didn’t his blood thicken as a result of his darkness the last time he visited Manhattan? Suddenly, his dark one deeds are so much worse than they were 2 seasons ago? I don’t think so. He’s always been the dark one ever since Zoso tricked him. It doesn’t make sense that upon stepping foot back into ALWM Rumple would suddenly have a heart attack when he showed no signs of heart failure the last time he was in NY. (I mean up until Hook poisoned him, but that was an external ailment owing to poison, not debt from using dark magic).

ParticipantThe only thing this episode achieved was to make me miss Baelfire even more–something I didn’t think was possible. His name was mentioned at least 4 times–more than all season. Why oh why?
Rumple: Because these are the remnants of Neal Cassidy, a boy who was in this land alone, and all because his father was too much of a coward to hold onto what he had. I don’t want a reminder of my failure–a reminder that all I really wanted was happiness, and when I had it, couldn’t recognize it.
My reaction? #UglyCrying
Why? Why did they undo this beautiful relationship? Why did they take away Rumple’s redemption when he gave Neal his second chance? Why does Zelena get to survive just to gleefully and shrilly gloat over Rumple while he doesn’t get a chance to see his beloved boy again?

ParticipantYa know, I’m not even dreading today’s ep, even with that bit that was in the sneak peek that’s quite rage inducing, I’m just so completely MEH about the prospect of watching this ep.
Likewise. I didn’t even miss the drama last week. Today’s episode is just one more to get through. I’ve (almost) come to expect disrespect of Neal’s memory. The plot of this episode just doesn’t excite me. I could care less about the “shocking” revelation that Marian is Zelena, whom I really disliked.

ParticipantThis is pure speculation, of course, and I doubt the show writers would go there, but wouldn’t Rumple’s HE technically involve never giving up Bae in the first place?
If the writers were still being true to the character of Rumple they created in S1, then yes, absolutely, his goal would be to rewrite his story to get his son back. Rumple point blank said in S3 that his son was his happy ending, so keeping Baelfire was absolutely his dream up until S3. However, I sadly don’t expect the writers to stick to this original concept. Probably, Rumple’s happy ending will have “evolved” so that now he simply wants unlimited power without having to pay a price. The writers even confirmed that Rumple’s goal in S4 is not to get back his son.
But to me, this would be the most logical “AU” for his character.
Me too, me too. As a huge fan of the relationship between father and son, Baelfire not being the happy ending of Rumple anymore is the single most confusing, illogical and heartbreaking revelation yet. Rumple’s undergone this (d)evolution and I simply am just so saddened by it. The relationship between father and son was the most compelling part of Rumple’s character to me, and the loss of Baelfire is keenly felt not just by fans of Rumple but also by the actor who plays him.
