So Sean didn’t know until January? Anyone wanna place bets that it’s the same deal with MRJ two years ago? The writers didn’t know they were gonna kill Neal until the end of S3A and didn’t tell the actor until they started writing 3B.

I mean…there was some hint that this was coming. First, Regina said in the S4 finale that her happy ending wasn’t a man. Next, Robin just barely escaped death in “The Price.” So, I tend to think the writers planned on killing off Robin Hood at some point in S5, but they just didn’t communicate that to Sean Maguire until early this year (probably because the writers wanted to avoid that awkward coversation until they had to tell Sean). The writers probably decided to kill him off sometime after all the negative fan reactions to Robin Hood choosing to go with “Marian” over staying with Regina. Then when Zelena raped Robin Hood, the crap really hit the fan and the writers didn’t know how to keep around a character like Robin while keeping their own favorite, Zelena, around without awkwardness (as the last two episodes showed).

These writers are the least professional bunch with probably one the worst track records towards their talented actors. First, it was MRJ, then Jamie Chung, then Michael Socha and now Sean Maguire

    From Sean:

The show has always been about hope, but Regina has now lost two loves. How do you think that will affect her in the aftermath of Robin’s death?
I have no idea, to be honest. What I have seen on social media is that, because Adam and Eddy have always said the show is about hope, and because Regina is one of the most beloved characters, it feels like they feel like they’ve been let down or they’ve been lied to.

    Preach!

It’s sad for the fans, but I guess Adam and Eddy will tell you that’s drama and they’re still in the middle of their story and they have reasons for everything. They’re very intelligent guys, I’m sure they knowwhat they’re doing.

Sounds like he isn’t so sure but he wants to leave on a good note in case they ever ask him back for a flashback or something.

Does being killed in a manner in which there is no afterlife or Underworld almost hurt a bit more considering Robin spent half a season in the Underworld trying to resurrect someone else?
Yeah, I think so. For me, my job as an actor is to serve what’s on the page. That’s it. It’s not a collaborative thing where we discuss things. Adam and Eddy are the architects of Once Upon a Time. I, as an actor, fill my responsibilities to serve the writers. That’s always what I’ll do to the letter. Yeah, from what I’ve read on social media from people that watched the show last night, they’re like, “I don’t understand it, you said they were soulmates, you said the lion tattoo, and all of these things that alluded to a backstory we never saw.” I think some of the audience feel a little but shortchanged, like they were being promised something was going to come, but it never did. Again, it’s not for me to comment on why or how; my job is just to serve the writing. That’s what I’ve always tried to do to the best of my ability.

Sounds like Sean M. is trying to distance himself from the poor writing decisions while also trying to maintain some professionalism. It’s such a shame the writers never utilized Sean more or gave him a more fleshed-out backstory about the lion tattoo. The writers had all season to get to it, but instead we just got pointless “filler” episodes like Merida, Hercules, Liam, and Oz.

I think it’s because Hades wasn’t really playing her in the sense that he didn’t love her; he just wanted it all–the girl and the power. When TLK was started to work in Skin Deep, Rumple still loved his dagger and his power; but there was enough under that (his love of Bae, for example) that overrode his desire to hold on to his power. At least that’s my guess. Until Hades got to SB, his love for Zelena and his desire to have a family was at the forefront. But once he got to SB and he realized that with a beating heart and the heroes left behind, he could once again take power, that’s what drove him.

That isn’t how it appeared to me. Hades flat out told Zelena back in 5×19 that he wanted to trap the heroes in UW. He also brought along his “family heirloom” (aka the cheap, glowing toy thunder bolt) from the UW to SB. So, it seems clear to me that Hades didn’t *just* want to be a family with Zelena and baby Robin. It seems like he really wanted to rule SB all along.

I wanted to touch on something Lily Sparks wrote over on TV.com:

Zelena came back inside to find Regina crouched over Robin Hood. Regina mustered herself up for a tearful speech about how Hades hadn’t changed at all, because he wanted everything for himself, but true love is sacrifice, and Robin had sacrificed himself for her. Which is sort of confusing because Zelena and Hades definitely had a kiss of true love, and Rumple can’t give Belle a TLK, so are these kisses indicators of a healthy relationship or what? As we all know, my questions are pointless.

I also find it really confusing just what the writers are trying to convey about love on this show. In 5×21, they repeated a line that love is sacrifice, as Mulan, David, Neal, Emma, Regina, Robin and even Hook have all demonstrated. It also seems like the writers have debunked the myth that a woman can change a man when he doesn’t really want to change. When Hades turned out not to have changed, it seemed clearly to parallel Rumple’s refusal to change for Belle. Yet, it’s really troubling that Zelena and Hades still shared TLK last episode. As Regina pointed out to her sister, sometimes love blinds us to the truth. But then begs the question of just how “true” the love of Zelena and Hades really is. It seems like the writers have no clear answer to this dilemma. On the one hand, Rumple and Belle didn’t share TLK (with the stated reason being Rumple’s ture love is his power). Rumple isn’t willing to give up his power, or even stop using dark magic, for Belle. Hence, no TLK. Yet, how then were Zelena and Hades able to share TLK if it turned out Hades was just playing her and wasn’t really willing to give up his pursuit of power? Zelena just wanted to share a quite life in SB with Hades and her daughter, when what he really wanted was to rule without any interference from the so-called heroes.

Seriously, who’s gonna die so Belle’s baby can have a name?!

    Probably Belle. *twitch*

Why didn’t Emma listen to Neal’s warning? *headdesk!*

I think this resurrection would have gone over better if (1) S5a had unfolded very differently and (2) Robin Hood hadn’t died during the same episode (in a way which means Robin can probably never come back). So, it seems cold to a lot of fans who liked Regina and Robin together, or who, at the very least, think it’s not true to the message of hope and second chances or fair to orphan very young children (on a “family” show) while other non-parents get to be resurrected for reasons. Also, I get the feeling the writers almost like drama for drama’s sake, because they must be aware how upset Regina/Robin fans were going to be. Did they have to film Hook and Emma’s reunion in front of Robin’s casket before it was even buried? Sheesh! Talk about putting salt in the wound!
