You know it’s bad when people are rooting for Regina to turn into the Evil Queen.

Good to see the dragon back. Also, I love when Regina and Rumple share a scene, since Lana and Bobby always seem to bring out the best of each other as actors. Has anyone ever “shipped” Evil Queen and Rumple?

Good to know. I had my suspicions.

Right but if Regina’s story after the fact proves to be compelling and it leads us to her “true” happy ending, Robin dying won’t seem like a bad message at all. I’m just saying because we don’t know how this will affect the character or lead to other things, it’s too early to say if this is a bad message or not.

I wrote this elsewhere, but I’ll repost it here since I think it’s pertinent. My understanding is that the writers seem to think Regina having “hope” is now tantamount to having inner tranquility, even after suffering repeated loss. Regina not going off the rails this time would show her inner strength and growth as a character. The problem, however, that we’ve already seen Regina be tested and go through this all before: first when she lost Henry during S3a finale and again when “Marian” came back and Robin chose to honor his marriage vows. Neither time did she resort to darkness. Regina turning dark now would be a shame after everything she’s gone through to get to this point. Let’s assume the best that Regina doesn’t resort to being the Evil Queen. Unless Regina gets a new love interest, I think the best Regina can hope for now is to be a mom to Henry, a sister to Zelena, mayor of SB, and friends with the Charmings. Maybe that could be a positive message about being happy even while single; it would actually be nice to see Regina keep it together and find happiness in spite of everything she’s lost. It would be a stark contrast to how Emma fell apart when she lost Hook and couldn’t even function without him.

I think this is one of the biggest problems with Adam and Eddy’s philosophy behind the show. You can’t write for a t.v. show, especially without a specific end date, the same way you write a book. We’ve literally spent over 75 hours watching these characters. No one would watch a 75 hour movie and not expect definitive hope to be shown for the main characters when “hope” is advertised over and over again as the show’s slogan. So it’s understandable that fans are losing hope for Regina. How do they not see that?

I agree that their philosophy is problematic for a show without a certain end date in mind, but my understanding is that the writers seem to think Regina having “hope” is now tantamount to having inner tranquility even in the midst of suffering repeated loss. Regina not going off the rails this time is supposed to show her inner strength and growth as a character, or something. The best she can hope for now is to be a mom to Henry, a sister to Zelena, mayor of SB, and friends with the Charmings.

Remember that time Hook helped defeat Hades?

    Yeah, me neither.

Well, killing off Neal was just the tip of the iceberg. We all saw the show for its true colors. By promoting Hook at the expense of other characters, they ticked off many fans. I mean, are A&E trying to get their show canceled by alienating every sector of the fandom except for CS? If that were their aim, then they’re succeeding. These writers are already creating a different show this summer. It seems to me that by promoting Hook, they’ve only made one faction (Hookers/CSers) happy while everyone else is just peeved (and that’s the sanitized word for it).

The only way I can see this “twist” paying off now for Regina is if SwanQueen happens or if she decides she’s better off without romance. However…I’m not sure what her “endgame” is now. Do Zelena and Regina become spinster sisters who own lots of cats?

“I felt like it was an abrupt end; I didn’t feel the character had any development this year and wasn’t really written for,” the actor tells THR.

Sean M. basically just said what I think MRJ probably felt but never really said.

As a writer, what do you hope happens next for Regina?

As a writer, you hope the Regina character stays good and stays a hero and doesn’t let this tragedy turn her back to a dark place. But as a viewer of the show, maybe Regina going dark and being evil again gives them their Evil Queen back — she’s an iconic character on the show and to be honest with you, I leave the speculation to the fans and the writing to the writers.
