ParticipantIt’s been confirmed that Gerhardt is Dr. Frankenstein/Dr. Whale’s younger brother.

ParticipantAgreed, since Spencer/George sought to frame Ruby for the murder of Gus, Spencer most certainly would’ve released her from her make-shift cage. He wouldn’t have left it to chance that she may not have gotten out on her own accord.

ParticipantBeing a literary fan, I also thought of the novel Jane Eyre, in which young Jane was locked in a red room where her uncle had died as a form of punishment. As a result of her fear, Jane’s mind played tricks on her, made her think there were ghosts, and she passed out. I don’t know if the writers of the episode are fans of that novel, but it might be a tenuous connection.

ParticipantWell, at least we finally now know who Gerhardt is. I looked up the significance of the name:
a boy’s name is a variant of Garrard (Old English) and Gerard (Old English), and the meaning of Gerhardt is “spear-hard; spear-brave; spear brave”.
The name Gerhardt is in keeping with being a brave solider. If he died in battle that could be why Dr. Frankenstein made it his mission to bring back his deceased brother. He sounded like a respectable, upstanding man before he died, a bit like Dr. Jekyll. Before death, he was also a loving family man and a brave warrior. However, Dr. Whale said the first time he brought his brother back to life, it didn’t go so well, which is why he wants to return to his land to try again. What if “spear-hard” also refers to his brother’s new nature as a monster/”Mr. Hyde” mentality once he is resurrected?

ParticipantThat’s a great find! I really hope it’s a huge nod to Neverland, and that we’ll go there in S2. Since a lot of people have speculated that Henry’s dad is actually Peter Pan/Baelfire, I think this hint could literally point in that direction. 🙂

I was too distracted by the smouldering gaze to notice he had anything in his hand. 😉 Anyway, you mean the thing the Giant wore that had the dead bean attached to it? I thought that was more oval in shape? This appears to be a strap of some sort, with the ends of ties of some sort poking through a couple of holes. The dead bean was tied down with a couple of straps if memory serves, so I guess this could be part of it. Maybe Cora’s plan is to pour the sparkly dirt onto the dead bean?
The item that Hook is holding doesn’t just appear to be the straps of his bag, in my estimation. I may be wrong about the device having belonged to the giant, but I have the distinct feeling like we’ve seen it before.

ParticipantWhile Emma might not be able to revive a magical bean which is dead, she could very well revive a magical bean-making device, which could be what Hook is holding here in the promo still for 2×8. Maybe Hook will double-cross Cora, team up with Emma, and she’ll be able to magically fix the device to make a magical bean that opens a portal to SB.

ParticipantThere is a fan theory that the Blue Fairy used magic before the curse hit the Enchanted Forest to preserve her memories from FTL. So, yes, I think your observation of her choice of words might very well support that notion. She might’ve known all along who she really is, and may have been in contact with August, who was working from outside of SB to make sure Emma fulfilled her destiny.

ParticipantI think Gerhardt is a new character. We know Belle’s father went by Maurice in FTL, not by a different name. Also, I think Gerhardt might just possibly be a “fake name” as a place-holder, the way that Anastasia and Magnolia were pseudonyms for Aurora and Mulan, respectively. I’m going to take a wild guess and suggest that Gerhardt might be Robin Hood, who was a veteran crusader/knight who returned from battle to then become an outlaw who fought against tyranny.
