as i said in another post, August might be turning back into wood for each lie he says… which is why at first he doesn’t lie, but then sees it as worth risking it if he can get rumple’s dagger to command him to cure him or something…

Perhaps one of the consequences of telling a lie is turning back into a puppet. In the Disney version, whenever Pinocchio told a lie, his nose would grow. Also, in order to become real in the first place, he had to be brave and truthful. Perhaps the inverse it true, too. If he lies, he goes from real to wooden. August told a huge lie when he pretended to be Baelfire to trick Mr. Gold.

The knife in episode 19 is certainly real. It doesn’t seem to work, because is no magic in SB, except for Emma. Even though August was unable to use the knife, I’d wager Emma would be able to use it and make it work. Rumpel purposefully came to a land in which there is no magic. He no longer has dark magic and instead has the appearance of a normal man. He only buried the knife when Emma came to town. As Jefferson said in episode 17, Emma brought a precious gift to SB: magic.

I still think that based on the exchange between Mr. Gold and Regina in episode 8, Regina didn’t legally adopt Henry. Instead, I think that Regina hired Mr. Gold to procure a child for her under-the-radar. Recall when she said that Henry wasn’t Emma’s child, not legally anyway. Mr. Gold said that she was trifling with technicalities. That makes me think that Mr. Gold, who’s great at getting what he wants via the subtle points of a contract, wanted Regina never to have any real legal claim to Henry. Regina never adopted Henry legally, and so Emma, as the birth-mother, would still have a priority claim for custody over her biological son, Henry. That is going to be the major loop-hole that makes it possible for the writers to skirt around the complicated, often multi-year process of legal adoption, and give Emma full custody rights over Henry. Mr. Gold has never been a true ally of Regina’s, as demonstrated in episode 19. The best way to get back at Regina, who is the miller’s granddaughter who got away in the original Rumpel fairytale, is to take away Henry. Also, Mr. Gold likes Emma and has a vested interest in her future, since she is the savior to break the curse.

“I’m on the right side” when talking with Bae about good and dark magic. She never said she was on the side of good. So, this still leaves it open as to what side does she consider the “right” side.

She was careful in her word selection. She did seem to be somewhat evasive in answering whether she was on the side of good.

Actually, episode 17 strongly hinted that Emma has magic when she made a hat and Jefferson appears to have disappeared into it.

After watching ep. 19, it doesn’t seem like Mr. Gold has magic the way he did before in fairy-tale land. August wasn’t able to control him by using the knife. Mr. Gold came to this world, a land without magic, because it was they only place he didn’t have dark magic. He has the appearance of a normal man in SB, even though he maintains his inclination to make deals like Rumpel did. Also, Mr. Gold commented to Regina how frustrating it was that one cannot simply turn your enemy into a slug and squash them in SB. However, I do think Emma has magic, like Jefferson said in episode 17. I think she created that magic hall, which Jefferson fell into and out of SB.

Recall in episode 4 that Mr. Gold probably procured Henry for Regina similarly to how he tried to procure baby Alexandra from Cinderella/Ashley. Emma called Mr. Gold’s bluff.

Emma: You know, no jury will put a woman in jail whose only reason for breaking and entering was to keep her child. I’m willing to roll the dice that contract stands up. Are you? Not to mention what might come out about you in the process. Somehow I suspect that there’s more to you than a simple pawnbroker. You really want to start that fight?

The procurement of a child does not constitute a legal adoption. He gets paid to procure children for would-be parents. I don’t think Regina has a real legal claim to Henry.

Also, in episode 8, Mr. Gold himself threatened Regina that Henry didn’t really belong to her.

Mr. Gold: Never underestimate someone who’s acting for their child.
Regina: He’s not her child, not legally anyway.
Mr. Gold: Oh, now who’s trifling with technicalities?

Emma may need Mr. Gold on her side and his help to regain custody of her son. Mr. Gold favors her though, so he’d do it for her. It’s just a matter of whether she’d side with him again.

Also, from the summary for episode 20 states that August may play a role in regaining custody of Henry.

“August promises to enlighten Emma and take her on a journey that will show her how she can beat Regina, and possibly take custody of Henry.”

I don’t think Geppetto has his memories. In the pilot, he said he’d do anything for a child, but he and his wife couldn’t have any. I think he believes he’s childless and doesn’t remember his son.

Her name is Morraine. She was the same teenage girl taken in episode 8 to fight in the Ogre War.

One theory already going around is that August called Baelfire. My theory is that he called the author of Henry’s book.
