ParticipantThe casting call for Rumple’s father did say: “dissatisfied, self-centered and ruthless”

ParticipantDing, ding, ding, that nasty self-preservation habit. I think that clinches the argument as to who the Pan is.

ParticipantFor the purposes of a protection spell the instructions to ask who it is I’m protecting and why seems more a practical instruction for the purpose of that particular spell. Rumple was also under duress at the time so there is the slight possibility he may have had a lapse in his judgment.
When it comes to the two halves of the same coin argument, I agree that that is the symbolic representation being made. My instincts tell me that there is more to Regina’s magic and her destiny than just being the repository of dark magic. I suspect that her true powers are much more significant, not unlike Anakin Skywalker whose Force abilities were tremendous when oriented towards the Light Side when Anakin fell the Dark Side he sacrificed a large part of his humanity and as a result his powers were circumscribed.
I noted in an earlier posting Regina’s association with Unicorns, now from mythology we know them as beings of great power and love, one need only reference Ridley Scott’s Legend. I find it interesting that in the scene between Rumple and Regina when he commands her to pull out the Unicorn’s heart she refuses and likewise refuses to crush that heart. If the Unicorn is a metaphor for Regina. Then symbolically it would mean she would be ripping out her own heart and crushing it. I mention this because after Rumple withdrew the heart from the Unicorn he proclaimed: “Now it belongs to me.” i.e., Regina and all her powers belong to him. Rumple’s deliberate sabotage of Regina’s life feels to me that Rumple knows that Regina is naturally magical and were her powers directed towards good she “could do so much” as he says. Throughout the series Regina has sought to fight back against the darkness that overwhelms her and those efforts that include attempting to adopt Hansel and Gretel for example backfire due to the malevolent way she goes about them. I suspect that we’ll see the importance of redeeming Regina ramp up as this season progresses. A redeemed Regina’s powers combined with Emma’s I think is how they’ll get the happy endings back.

ParticipantSomething I noticed re-watching the clip of Michael and John breaching the boundary. The ornament hanging from the rearview mirror is a teddy bear. Now all we need is John’s umbrella.

ParticipantAs I was watching this clip I noticed an inscription on the top of the box which is in Greek. I’ve transliterated it into Latin script
ΛΕΙΤΟΥΡΓΕΙ ΜΕ = LEITOURGEI ME which in English means “Open With” if my translation is right.
Can be found at time index 2:02 on the clip:

ParticipantIf it contains great evil it stands to reason that opening it would release it into the world. In that case it would be a Hobson’s choice release a greater evil into the world while trapping Pan in the box. That seems the most logical possibility, but whoever said A&E were logical.

ParticipantBased on this a little speculation:
1) Magic shockwave across the island looks like the one from true love’s kiss (Emma revives a heartless Henry?)
2) Magical cardiectomy scene with Pan and Henry (Pan stealing Henry’s heart, Henry giving it up willingly/ under duress?)
3) Emma’s too late “NOOOOO!” (To stop Henry from giving up his heart?)
4) Once again w/ Emma’s help Regina their magic makes big things happen.
5) The family team is back together again.
Just have to include this since it seems to parallel what I’m seeing in the promo.

ParticipantClever bit with the Alpha and Omega (beginnings and endings) The wheels/gears the circle out of which all comes into being, passes through the state of being and dies to be resurrected for the next cycle. And three of them to boot the mystical number pairs of opposites and the unifying center. Always remember to place yourself at the hub of the wheel your axis mundi.
Ah! Dearies, so good to be back…

ParticipantJust a quick comment before I go back to work:
1) Interesting that Granny is in the core group confronting Pan, a important connection perhaps?
2) There has got to be some catch to killing Pan A&E have got to be laying a foundation for something to culminate in the 2nd half of the season.
3) If Blue bites the bullet and its her coat lying on the steps could be shades Obi-wan in ANH, Yoda in ROTJ and Jen’s master in the Dark Crystal. Disappearing into the ether leaving an empty garment behind. And if it is Blue that is taken out we have to ask if that complicated history Rumple alluded to goes beyond just giving Bae the bean.
