It also reiterates that Regina is blind to her mother’s manipulations – she rationally knows Cora is a puppet master but she can’t emotionally bring herself to process what this means for her life and losses.
[adrotate group="5"]swanning-offParticipantthe writers’ answer at Paleyfest was very cryptic. Dr Frankenstein is from Switzerland… or is he? Wendy flew out of a window in London, or a storytale London?
Will be interesting to see if there is StoryLondon if Alice and Wendy are both there.
swanning-offParticipantUS$20 000 at Thai exchange rates…. yeah. There’s no mystery as to where August was for 11 years! That’s plenty of cash to keep him in cocktails and swimshorts for that time.
swanning-offParticipantYep.
swanning-offParticipant1. Yep.
2. Dunno. I assume she always had it with her (because I also assume that Blue is not as innocent as everyone thinks and she had her memories the whole time the curse was in play)
3. Not sure. Bit of a plothole but maybe he used the globe that Gold left behind, as some have speculated. Or maybe he has a special Rumple-finding device of his own on board that ship? He got from Neverland to Fairytale Land to our Land in pursuit of his crocodile…. I think it’s safe to assume he hasn’t been led by Cora all the time. Otherwise, how would he know when to leave Neverland? He must have had something with him that would tell him when the time was right. Right???
4. They have history with Rumple. Probably more so than anyone else. Either they read it somewhere, or he told them (why, I have no idea why he would tell anyone about that) But others in the history we have seen have learned about the secret of the Dark One and the dagger…. surely legend spread, slowly but surely?swanning-offParticipantBut we see Snow in the Vault with a glowing heart.
Remember when she buried Johanna – she noted that Regina’s family vault was untouched. Maybe she decided to change that? In her new found “being good is not always right” mode.
swanning-offParticipantHe didn’t say the dagger had not left his side in centuries, he said it had not left his possession. Now that poses two issues:
Possession is defined in law as being within a person’s physical proximity, control or domain. (this is usually discussed in drug cases – in response to the Lindsay Lohan defence of “oh the cocaine isn’t mine, these are someone else’s pants!!!” The law says ‘tough. The pants are on you. Your are in possession of the contents of the pants.’ Then there’s quite a lot of cases that discuss whether knowledge is required for possession and it’s on the fence. There are many jurisdictions, like Victoria, which reverse the onus of proof in drug possession – the accused is assumed to be aware of the item in their control unless they prove otherwise).
Now, there is no way in any kind of reality that Gold flew on a modern airplane with a dagger in his physical possession. So I think we can assume he is not working on the physical proximity limb of the definition of possession.
Is it within his control? If he has placed it somewhere with a powerful enchantment protecting it, yeah, I’d say it’s still within his control – and therefore still within his possession.
Pretty tenuous possession though. Get back to Storybrooke and check your dagger sunshine!!!
Now: if Cora is holding the real dagger and not a fake, then clearly it wasn’t within a protection spell and not within his possession…. and Gold is just talking rubbish as he’s just been stabbed with a poisoned hook.
Speaking of…. can’t wait to see Hook rock up back in Storybrooke. Travelling on bus, rail or plane dressed as the stereotypical pirate is going to be a challenge 😆
swanning-offParticipantmaybe… building on my good witch/bad witch theory I just posted in the Fave moments thread….
Eva and Cora are both the millers’ daughters. Both want a better life. Wish upon a star…. but only Eva gets the fairytale granted. Maybe Cora didn’t believe in Reul Ghorm but Eva did, so Eva went off to wish? Cora is stuck at home, with the milling. She takes her chance when Rumplestiltskin rocks up – and confirms the pattern of Eva = Good Magic, Cora = Dark Magic.
Maybe???
OR…. just had another thought, on the Blue-is-manipulating-all train. Blue approaches Eva, offers her the princess life, because Blue can also see the future – Eva’s daughter will be Snow, who will give birth to the Saviour, but won’t be in a position to meet Prince Charming unless she is a princess….. This would explain why Cora was left behind. Blue wouldn’t have approached her. But maybe the approach came when the sisters were together – this is why Cora knows what Blue looks like, and wears? (and I am SO glad that Cora had a line about how dumb Blue’s costume is!! It always annoys me. Shells and crap??? Ugh.) Cora was snubbed off, and that started her slide to the Dark side – which Blue isn’t too phased about, because she knows Regina will be needed to implement the curse.
March 4, 2013 at 9:36 am in reply to: THE QUEEN IS DEAD : Favorite and Least Favorite Moments #176822swanning-offParticipantARGH! That was so good.
Snow Flake’s mourning dress was AH MAY ZING. Brilliant costuming.
Favourite moments: Snow’s crisis of faith – is being good worth it? Is it right when all she wants is to protect the people she loves? Also LOVED the twist of the Cora/Blue Fairy thing. I had read the boards earlier today so I knew it was coming, but even with spoilers it was still brilliant.
Cora’s dead bed speech to the Queen (did anyone call her Eva in the episode or was that just the casting call name? Sometimes the casting call names change in the episode and I’m pretty sure that the Queen was never referred to by name) Solid gold AND I think it was pretty indicative that Cora and the Queen were sisters. The analogy that struck me was Esme and Lily Weatherwax in the Discworld book Witches Abroad (which is a tongue in cheek retelling of several fairytales, specifically Cinderella, with a new spin on what really makes a good witch good). At the end of that book, Esme, who is bad tempered, practical and obtuse to social niceties, dresses in regulation witches’ black, scares the life out of her neighbours and all in all seems to be the Bad Witch in her mannerisms, concludes that she had to be the Good Witch in her family – she had to be the one who always did the right thing. This was because her sister Lily ran off to be the Bad Witch – the nice fairy godmother style witch, all wonderful ballgowns and enchantments, but her intentions are really manipulative and awful. The juxtaposition of Nasty/Good Witch and Lovely/Bad Witch are excellent, and with the tongue in cheek characterisations removed, it reminded me of Cora and the Queen.
Cora is the Bad Witch, clearly. She learned her magic from the Dark One, uses Dark Magic constantly, has no hesitation in manipulating everyone in the world(s) to get what she wants. The Queen had a confidante in the Blue Fairy – what if she was the Good Witch? If she learned Good Magic, used it to protect the kingdom and used it sparingly because she understands that all magic comes with a price??
Sisters, enemies – somehow or other, Cora and Eva/the Queen know each other and go WAY back. Sisters is the easy option. Maybe both married into royal families, but Eva got the better deal and Cora was kicked out? (by George – I do like the theory that Cora was involved with George somehow) Maybe there was a Charming-like adoption thing that went on for the miller’s daughters, and Cora was the one left behind?
So many possibilities. So excited for the rest of the season!
Also, Emma continues to bring the lulz. This week my favourite bit was “You know how to captain a pirate ship?” and then the look on her face when Nealfire says “Yeah. Really. I do.”
Now. Rumple being a git to Henry. It wasn’t just his outburst post-stabbing. He was also being rude to Henry post-pizza. The line that looked so cute on paper (“Should I call you grandpa now?” “you can call me whatever you like”) was delivered perfectly – RC showed that Rumple has realised Henry is the boy he vowed to kill, and now he’s worried about what his undoing will be and what he should do with the conundrum of not wanting to kill family. Gold class acting there.
swanning-offParticipantSo the population of storybrooke is off to Never land or just the Charming family? Cool either wat
