sweetgrassParticipantI wrote this for another board over a month ago. I was waiting to add it to the tombstoned CSF thread, but since that inactive, I’ll add it here. I may edit to update since we’ve had some serious CS moments, since I first wrote this post.
I don’t think that Neal and Emma have true love. I see more possibility in CS
To me true love has the following characteristics:
It makes each person a better (actually it should help you become the best version of yourself while in the relationship). When Neal and Emma were together, they both seemed to engage in more law breaking. It seemed that Neal taught Emma how to work cons/”thieving jobs”. I don’t see either Neal or Emma being better people in their past relationship. While I believe that they were two lonely people and helped each other with that loneliness, I don’t see that relationship making them better people. I don’t count Emma becoming a bail bondsperson or the saviour a direct result of that relationship. Neal was gone when Emma took control of her life to make it better. She did that on her own and Neal doesn’t get to claim that and if him leaving her was the only way she could accomplish those things, it only proves my point — that relationship was not true love because it wasn’t going to bring out the best in both parties when they are together.
With Hook, I do see Hook trying to become a better person and seeming to achieve that. He is setting aside his revenge (although I think his quest could easily be seen as a quest for justice to bring a monster that has destroyed countless lives to task and stopping that monster from destroying more lives). He is being openly helpful and someone who provides a somewhat supportive and non-judgmental sounding board for others (so far Regina and Emma and I think in time Charming). She has someone who can empathize with her in a way that none of the other characters can. Emma seems a little warmer around Hook. She needs someone who can bring fun into her life. She needs to laugh. Emma has a beautiful smile and Hook seems to be the one that gets her to smile. Hook is funny and he is always complimentary to Emma. He sees her in the best light and would help her see herself in that light. (more on this in item 3) He is sentimental like Emma. I know some people like to claim that Hook is only interested in adventure and try to discount him being an acceptable partner because in their eyes would value adventure over love, but I think he desperately wants a family and a place to belong, just like most of the other characters. Emma sees that and is giving him the opportunity to belong. That was what her speech in the finale was about. They work well together. Best of all, Emma is not compromising who she is who she is or enabling Hook’s darker nature, which makes CS even better than Rumbelle to me.
True love doesn’t let you down, especially in your darkest hour. Emma’s darkest hour was giving up Henry while she was in prison. Neal wasn’t there. Nothing is going to erase that. He didn’t try to come back to her once he knew she had broken the curse. He left her alone when she needed him the most.
Hook and Emma haven’t made to full romantic relationship status yet, but he came to her when she again lost Henry. He made it possible for them to get to Neverland. Basically, Emma has lost her son twice. The first time she was alone; the second time, Hook came back to help and he sacrificed his quest to allow the man who killed his love and permanently maimed him on the very ship that Rumple killed Milah. That says a lot about how much he wants to help Emma.
True love does not settle for someone else. Charming was not able to settle for Abigail/Katherine. Snowing had to take a potion to completely change (not just forget but actually change her whole personality) to stop caring for Charming. Hook waited 300 years for the true love to strike again. Neal fell in love with and got engaged with Tamara, even after knowing Emma broke the curse.
Your OTP sees you in the best light (related to point 1 because they also help you become the best possible you). Hook is always complimentary to Emma. He sees her as someone who is smart, tough, willing to fight for what she wants and beautiful. He compliments her, which must be nice for emma who grew up without that affirmation. He tells her that they are a good team. He sees her hurt/past pain and still wants to be there, so he is realist.
Neal seemed dismissive of Emma’s concerns re Tamara and of abilities.
I know some accuse Hook of being a misogynist because of his innuendos. But to me he seems to like and respect women. Milah seemed to be respected on his ship. She gave orders and the crew followed them. She was smart. Hook didn’t care that she was older. He seems to like women with life experiences and isn’t looking for a sheltered ingenue that he can mold to his liking.

It’s never auto corrected anything I’ve typed, so didn’t even know it could. Are you posting from your phone?
i am posting from my iPad. It’s only this forum I get the crazy autocorrects.

sweetgrassParticipantI think Hook and Bae ‘s reaction will be the most interesting as Pan has messed with them both for centuries. Hook will be pissed. Neal probably disgusted by pan but sorry for Rumple.

sweetgrassParticipantHook does have a type — strong smart resourceful and worldly (for lack of a better word). Hook wants an equal. He doesn’t want an ingenue (like Belle when she first met the Dark one) or a sheltered pampered princess with no understanding of how hard the real world can be. Hook is confident on who he is and is not threatened by a strong woman. I don’t think whether or not the woman is mother matters to him.

sweetgrassParticipantIs there a way to turn off the autocorrect for this forum? It is so frustrating to type what I want and have autocorrect make it gibberish or worse change the meaning of my post eg changing barely tolerates to nobly tolerates.

sweetgrassParticipant1. My head cannon for Rumple’s mom is that she was the blacksmith less attractive daughter or the unattractive daughter of a relatively wealthy man. Malvolm either because he was a seeking an end to his servitude or poverty married the woman to improve his finances not out of love and he got stuck with a child he never truly loved by a woman he barely tolerated.
2. screwball Ninga has a huge bias and blinders when it comes to Belle. This taints her view on Rumbelle and Hook and Neal. Except for her willingness to discuss and arguments based on wealth and social class I don’t find her blog compelling.
3. Is the CSF thread open for posting?

sweetgrassParticipantI wanna say that the black sail is to do with the Shadow. But then what’s with the pixie dust?
Looking at the screenshot — I think Regina uses the pixie dust to imbue the sail with the shadow’s power to fly/travel

November 18, 2013 at 1:16 am in reply to: 3×08 “Think Lovely Thoughts” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #224655sweetgrassParticipantI liked the episode overall, while I agree that it was a little disjointed.
Oddly while I felt for kid Rumple, it did not make me feel bad for adult Rumple. Adult Rumple made me mad because he carried on the family dynamic of: 1) refusing to move and getting a fresh start (had he done that Milah might have stayed) and 2) abandoning his son.
To me, it is hard to believe that Malcolm becomes Pan. Malcolm reaked of desperation and did not seen that bright. Pan is brilliant and in control. It is very odd. It’s hard to reconcile the two as the same person. I can do this with Little Rumple, Cowardly pre-Dark Rumple and the Dark One. The trajectory is there.
Robbie Kay knocked it out of the park. That kid is an amazing actor.
I am about to commit heresy on this board, but I think Rumple and Regina would sizzle as a couple. I would like to see them together.
The casting department did a great job with Rumple and Daddy Malcolm.
I liked Skull Island.
I liked that Hook didn’t try to push to stay with Emma and was willing to stay behind with Tink. I really hope we get Hook and Tink’s backstory, as well as Hook and Pan. Again this is Hook, Pan and Tink’s fairytale so we should get a lot more of them, but I think TPTB chose to sacrifice all that to give Rumple his daddy time. Having said that I did like the Rumple Pan confrontation.
I didn’t like how gullible Henry was.
