the wizParticipant
This morning I found searchable texts online for all the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales. Neither has the word “august” anywhere in them. Perhaps August Wayne Booth is simply an august personage or one who orchestrates august occasions for royalty.
[adrotate group="5"]the wizParticipantNow you’ve got me feeling…charming! Thanks!
the wizParticipantYour most welcome, charming. I hope you’re right that the show works in some of The Art of War. Defeating evil calls for “winning without a battle”, “knowing oneself and one’s enemies” and “practicing emptiness” — not for going ballistic and reviving the Ogre Wars.
the wizParticipantGiven how inventive the show’s writers have been with “Snow White & the Seven Dwarves”, I’ve abandoned my expectations that the appearance of characters from ANY story would result in an episode that recreated that story. I’m greatly enjoying the departures from conventional tales and see this as an improvement. Thus I agree with you (charming):
The Wizard of Oz references may not mean we will see a Wizard of Oz scenario but quite simply a hint of a strategy to take….Then if the WoO is just a plan and not a hint of an up coming episode then the trio plus whoever is on board should make that happen.
the wizParticipantI haven’t been expecting him to be the author of Henry’s precious volume of “Once Upon a Time”, so I won’t be disappointed if that comes to light. As a lover of the writing process, he appears to also treasure books like I do. The care he took in reassembling Henry’s book was an indication of how precious he finds books to be. I’ve been expecting him to author something new, given he’s seeking inspiration from his current time in SB.
the wizParticipantWhen Emma has been avoiding rapport with August’s outlook, he has taunted her with mild sarcasm:
1×10 7:15AM
— “I wonder what kind of hell I would have raised if I’d ordered a donut?”
— “Is it illegal to carry around a box in these parts?”1×13 What Happened to Frederick?
— “That’s what ‘hop on’ means!”
— “How about you stop having to control everything and take a leap of faith?”
— “Well Miss Skeptic, there’s one thing I can tell you for sure that requires no leap of faith and I know you’ll agree with me”the wizParticipantcruel_fortuna wrote:
it should be the trio’s ( August, Emma, Henry ) utmost concern to be able to work against the curse covertly
I expect August to be a significant resource in keeping the trio’s work covert. He has shown us a great sense of being mysterious and appears keen on withholding information. Once Henry trusts him more, the two could follow your info gathering recommendation superbly.
I think the first thing they would need to do is find out how large Regina’s network is & how far her influence reaches.
In addition to assessing Regina’s network, it will help break the curse if the trio can determine how many members of her network are eager to turn against her once their is a winning opposition to join. In Oz, the palace guards exclaimed “Hurray for Dorothy!” when their Wicked Witch was dead.
Emma has a bad problem with being to blunt with her judgement ( & she fails miserably in terms of being sneaky. )
I’m hoping Emma will become less quick to judge and thus better at being sneaky as she realizes she really is the daughter of Snow White and she really has magical abilities. The soliloquy from Jefferson in the Hat Trick episode appeared to move Emma in that desirable direction.

I also believe that this is a very complex curse and has to be dispelled in different stages and it will have to take every single person/ character effected by the curse to realize who they are to start this process.
Yes to all you said! By framing Emma’s challenge of getting the message of many other characters keeps the show from being overly focused on the trio. Requiring everyone in SB to recall who they are in FTL could spawn many episodes where particular characters have their own set of problems with facing “the truth” of who they are and where they come from. Awakening others could create great teamwork for Henry and August to scheme how to open some closed minds, alleviate some fears and remind others they “always have a choice”. 😀
the wizParticipantIn my ideal scenario for the end of the curse, the shattered ceiling in the castle will elevate back into place. The dark smokey tornado will vanish and the sun will come out. Prince Charming will get back on his feet with his sword wound having healed miraculously. And the cupboard door will fly open and there will be baby Emma, cooing as if no time has passed and no harm was done. Her perfect innocence will symbolize the restoration of “happy ever after”.
the wizParticipantI’m thinking that August escaped the curse because he’s not been born yet in FTL, just like Henry is unborn since this mother is still an infant there. I’m imagining that FTL is currently asleep like when the field of poppies put all of Oz to sleep or when Malificent put the kingdom of Princess Aurora to sleep.
So Emma, Henry and August have not become as old as they are in SB because nothing is changing in FTL until the curse is broken. Having escaped the curse, that trio can break the curse in FTL and SB. I suspect that will require all three coming into their individual powers fully, much Dorothy’s companions did to cross the drawbridge into the Wicked Witch’s castle in Oz.
