Belle will find out that it was EQ, not Rumple, who sped up her pregnancy.  Rumple will save her and his son and will either live and Belle will realize he did choose to do good in this episode or he will die a hero and we realize he was misunderstood and had horrible abusive parents.

So I guess I’m in he minority about this one but I enjoyed this overall.  I really wanted the black fairy to not be a one time thing where an actress comes in and does a one episode stint.  Don’t think we will get that.  And I wanted black fairy to be blue fairy but what they gave me instead was quite surprising and I loved it.

    Overall: 8/10

    Liked:

    –  BLACK FAIRY!  The actress did a great job and for once, I was utterly shocked at the reveal.  I don’t see any problem with this reveal at all.  It doesn’t even feel like a fan service thing to me.  They established this character in season 3A and gave a pretty random name drop.  And now, she’s his mother.  Sure, fans wanted to hear about Black Fairy but the writers wouldn’t have name dropped her back then like that if they never planned on getting to her at some point.  Maybe she wasn’t supposed to be Rumple’s mother in the beginning but we have no way of knowing that.  Cut the writers a break.  They surprised everyone.

    – It makes sense that his mother stole babies.  It makes sense why Rumple did.  Could be because he wanted to summon her the whole time or because like mother like son.  So Rumple knew his mother was the black fairy but she didn’t know.  How did he find out?  I’m sure we will get that story at some point.  So is Black Fairy going to be an antagonist and the villain in the back half instead of Jafar?  Has she been pulling the strings all this time with the Oracle and what not?  What’s her end game?  Or is she just a one time character?  Did she have something to do with Agrabah being destroyed or whatever?

    – Belle reading to the child.  It was sweet and shows she would be a great mom.

    – I like that blue took the child away.  Belle is giving the child his best chance.  Now where did Blue take the child?  Is that where Black Fairy could be?

    – I like that Rumple did not speed up the pregnancy but EQ did.  Rumple actually did the right thing here and yet he still gets burned.  I imagine that once Belle finds out it was EQ who did it and not Rumple, and then maybe Rumple kills EQ to save Belle or whatever, they will try and mend this ship.  Otherwise they would have just had Rumple do it.

    – I like that she named him Gideon.  Not named after anybody, finally.

    – I actually liked that Regina hasn’t forgiven Zelena yet.  Sure, she did save everybody in the end, but her stupidity cost Regina the love of her life.  Regina would sacrifice herself for her, and she still loves her, but she has not forgiven her and I think that works.  And as far as why Regina hadn’t used her heart to control the EQ until now….well I think she only started accepting that she may have to kill herself in order to save everyone from the EQ in the last couple episodes.  She may have known about it, but she has said multiple times to Emma very recently that she would be willing to crush her own heart to save Henry.  The scene with Zelena showed she wasn’t bluffing.

    – EQ’s final line in Gold’s shop about fairies being good mothers….oh man, drop the mic.  So does that mean Regina knew who Rumple’s mother was this whole time too?  Did Belle know this whole time?

    Mixed:

    – The flashbacks were only there to get us to the Black Fairy reveal.  Which is fine, but makes the rest of it pointless.

    – I understand the complaint regarding the lack of point to this arc this season.  But It is not bothering me like it’s bothering others.  What’s EQ’s plan?  Well she sort of already accomplished it.  It was to make Snow and Charming miserable.  She did that with the curse.  The she tried to trap Regina and Emma in the mirror world but that failed.  The she tried to get on Rumple’s good side for help but that has backfired.  My guess is she will have some hand in what happens to everyone in the winter finale and where they end up and what’s rumored etc so I don’t quite get why people don’t see the point of her showing up and her motivation.  And the Rumbelle story line has been going on this season with the son and their toxic relationship which finally led to Belle’s birth and the reveal of Rumple’s mother.  And then you have the overarching story of Emma’s dream and death destiny as a Savior (just like the author of the storybook in season 4).  Now introducing Aladdin and Jasmine this early makes less sense to me but we all know it was to get fans interested and to get the lamp for the winter finale.  And now we have Jafar and Black Fairy lurking as potential evil villains for the back half and the EQ is still around too.  So I really don’t understand the problem people are having with the direction of this season.  You also have to remember this is not supposed to be a half season type thing.  It’s supposed to be like season 1 and 2.  It’s not supposed to be this neat and tidy 10 episode arc and then a reset.  It’s supposed to flow like an entire season and so far I think they have done that.

    Disliked:

    – CGI looked bad in the castle.

    – Zelena can’t fight the EQ all of a sudden?  I get that Hyde wasn’t affected by magic but perhaps a little fight Zelena?  She’s supposed to be so powerful and yet she just gets steam-rolled into a barn.

GENERAL: What a frustrating episode. This season is going in circles and I’m tired of logic problems, things popping into existence as quick fixes that weren’t thought of several episodes ago. I’m tired of character motivation being vague at best and insulting to the audience at worst. I’m tired of the writers retconning past experiences and character growth because it suits their current season. And I’m really tired of poor world building that only leads to endless questions about how this universe functions when the writers clearly have no intention of answering them!

So I didn’t get or feel any of this?  Can you explain what was retconned?  What character motivation was vague?  Poor world building?  What popped up as a quick fix?  How is this season going in circles?  As I said above, I think there are very clear arcs and directions this season and I don’t quite get what people are frustrated about.  Again, the EQ wanted revenge on Snow and Charming.  She got that.  She wanted Henry to choose her.  She failed, so far.  She wanted to side with Gold and get his help.  She was successful and then now has failed.  She wanted Zelena to choose her over Regina.  She sort of got that until now bc Gold backfired and made her try and kill Zelena.  Rumple and Belle have gone back and forth the whole season regarding the child and how Rumple wants to change his fate so he would not hate him.  And this episode was the climax of that with Rumple ultimately not choosing to do that to Belle but Belle still giving birth bc of the EQ.  So what exactly is going in circles here?  I have loved this season and will defend it haha.

I’ll get into this a lot next week during our mid-season review: but what is the POINT of this half-season?? Is there one? There are three stories running concurrently and none of them are moving anywhere or had any point! Jekyll/Hyde and the Land of Untold Stories ended as soon as J/H died; the EQ has done nothing except waltz around and deliver one liners/mack on Rumple; Emma’s Savior story–that incorporates Aladdin and Jasmine–is at an utter standstill with nothing being fleshed out or developed. There are good things in this season but overall this doesn’t feel like there was any sort of point except to get to the Winter Finale next week.

Again, I just disagree based on what I said above.  I think you are forgetting some of the story lines that did flesh out this season.  The two things you can say had zero point were the land of untold stories and bringing in Jasmine and Aladdin so early.  But they needed the land of untold stories to get to Hyde to get to the EQ to get to the curse she put on Snowing and potentially whatever happens in the winter finale.  And now they needed the lamp and Aladdin to become the genie to get to the finale but other than those two things, I see a very coherent story line.  Apparently no one else does.  And then again, they have the over-arching story line with Emma and her dream.  Again, I don’t see why people are having a problem with this season at all.

Just wanted to say I thought this may have been the weakest episode of the season.  Utterly predictable with Nygma and Butch and Tabitha.

And who on Earth is Falcone’s son?  Is he a villain in the DC Universe?  Is he Solomon Grundy?  Was he infected with Alice’s poison?  And who on Earth kisses somebody goodbye like that?  Eye roll.  Ivy continues to bother me as she simply is being used for plot purposes to move the Court of Owls story to where it needs to go.  How does she even know anything about plants?  This season is starting to go down hill fast with the exit of Jervis Tetch.

The only good thing was Carmine Falcone being a boss, otherwise, this episode blew.

Has the Evil Queen been on set in the second half of the season at all? As in after episode 10?

I too am curious about this.  I thought she would be done by episode 10 and then Jafar would step in…but no Jafar.

Makes me wonder if Rumple does once again lose his Dark One powers, but it transfers into their son, making him the Dark One. That could explain why their son ends up in a cloak. Either way, I’m puzzled on how they could logically repair Rumbelle’s relationship at this point.

Hmm yes.  So we know if someone strikes him with the dagger, Rumple will lose his DO one powers to whoever stabbed him.  But perhaps this another way Rumple can lose his power.  When the DO has a child, once that child is born the DO’s powers get transferred to the child.  Or they both are DO’s.

I think Ed knows it was Oswald; he’s just messing with him.

This is what I’m seriously hoping.

I’m still wondering where Jafar fits into any of this?  He is going to be the back half villain right?  Has he not been on set since “Street Rats?”  It makes me wonder if Blue Fairy could potentially be the villain or anybody else for that matter.  But I find it hard to believe they would introduce such an iconic villain and not bring him into the fold at some point in the season.

I think that’s it. It’s…insurance. Just in case ABC pulls the plug after this year they want to be able to say that they gave answers to some of the bigger questions that people hound them about (Lily’s father, the Black Fairy, ect). Now I don’t think ABC is going to cancel but…insurance.

Could very well be.  I think this could be one of two things.  We either see the Black Fairy in this episode, we see why she’s presumably awful and why her wand was taken away and maybe why Rumple hates fairies and then we never see her again.  As RG said, it’s insurance in case they get cancelled.  Or, we get to see a lot of Black Fairy going forward but that would only be possible if……..Blue Fairy was actually Black Fairy!  Obviously I’m hoping for the latter.
