I wasn’t comparing being gay with being a zoophile, I was comparing the fact that Regina could be into other things too. She could be straight, gay, bi, there’s an entire list of possibilities, being a zoophile included. My point was simply what you said yourself: “it could have already happened in the past but not shown (it’s not like we have seen every minute and thought of their lives), could happen now without being already obvious, or might happen some time in the future”. If we dont see it, we can’t know for sure unless they make it explicit for everyone to see. But I’ll drop the point. If (and hopefully when) A&E decide to include a queer character, it won’t be a matter of if, maybe, and possibly, they will show us hands down 100% in a completely unambiguous way, regardless of who it is. I hope >>

We’re back to the idea that closed out the last thread, namely should we assume that a character is straight until told otherwise

Sorry. Didn’t mean to make waves, I was just curious about the whole heteronormativity thing (in the name of the moon, that is a difficult word >>) Not trying to get things heated or anything.

Why should I assume that a character is strictly straight without any doubts unless shown differently? You need me to show it to convince me

Well gay characters or bi characters usually date someone of the same sex at some point, or mention it, whereas straight characters usually only date people of the opposite sex and if they turn out to be gay or lesbian, they show that instead of not doing it at all. If a character is indeed bi, but they never date, show attraction, or talk about being attracted to someone of the same sex, how am I supposed to know they are bi? O.o thats what is so confusing to me. So yeah, Ruby could be bi (I could see it happening) but how will I know if I never see any indication of it. For a character like Archie, who hasn’t been seen attracted to either male or female, I have an easier time accepting him as queer cause it doesn’t go against anything they’ve shown. But for a character like Snow, who is married with two kids, I have a harder time seeing her as a lesbian because in the past 3 seasons, there has been nothing to suggest it.

And I very much hope with zoophilia you meant interested in dragons who can turn into humans, dwarves, fairies, werewolves, humans regulary turning into wolves (oh, wait, Ruby is one of that kind) and other mythical and fabulous humanoid creatures as well or more than into humans like herself.

Zoophilia is a thing in real life, where people do have romantic attractions to animals. Fairies are just tiny humans, a dwarf is just a short, big eared human, and a werewolf is only a werewolf under the moon. What I meant was, how do we know Regina isn’t attacted to animals? Are we assuming she isn’t? For all we know, her relationship with her horse was more than what we saw (it was the thing she first thought of to sacrifice when enacting the curse). Isn’t this the sane concept of what ur saying, but instead of same genders, I replaced that with animals. Just the same as u can say how do we know she isn’t bi or lesbian, I could say how do we know she is only into humans (or humanoids). Sorry if this sounds strange but we often have convos like this amongst my social circle >> needless to say, we get a lot of weird looks xD

I’m really really mad at them ruling out a love interest for Elsa. She was the perfect character to introduce as a lesbian. I’m just so mad at them using a character that many cling to in that manner and just say lol nope. It’s so cowardly. I think asexual Elsa is a reasonable headcanon too but I doubt they’d make a point of it.

The heart of Frozen was the love between two sisters. That’s what set it apart from other Disney films because it didn’t focus on romantic love. Its understandable they want to bring that to OUAT, especially after they had half a season of Wicked Sisters going at eachothers throats.

This is kind of nonsensical though and some of the canon pairings already cross these boundaries, like Hook having been with Henry’s grandmother, etc.

For some, this is a problem. I personally don’t like the thought. If I were Henry and my step-father was a man who had been with my mother AND my fathers mother, I would be a little weirded out by it. Nor would I want to be with a man who was my son’s father’s mother’s lover. But hey, whatever floats Emma’s ship (see what I did there? ;P)

For a “Step” family relationship they actually have to grow up with them and that didn’t happen with Emma. She never had a relationship like that with Regina, so the step part is effectively irrelevant.

I disagree. Regina married Emma’s mother’s father. Regardless of how Emma feels about, Regina is indeed her step-granny. Even Snow considers Regina her step-mother still.

Some people don’t like CS because Hook was with Henry’s grandmother and is now with Henry’s mother. It’s a valid reason, there’s nothing “nonsensical” about that. Some people don’t mind it. Ship and let ship

I’ve heard about this, but I think its silly because the writers and the actresses have spoken about it before and indeed Mulan was attracted to Aurora.

I just think if they were going to make Red LGBT, then they would have at least hinted at it since we’ve seen a lot more of Red than we have Archie, Hold up – I’m going to use that word again. Heteronormativity. They would not necessarily have hinted at it. The writers obviously don’t plan anything in advance. As originally concieved, in S1, not a single person in the OUAT cast was queer. Which should raise some serious questions

I’m going to say this again: If they want us to know that someone is queer, they have to SHOW it to us. You can’t just spring that out of the blue. As it goes, Ruby, Emma, and Regina they have only been shown to be attracted to men as far as we know. If they were planning to have them be bi or lesbian, I think they would make it a point to mention it, hint it, or foreshadow it. It’s not “heteronormativity” if we don’t see something they haven’t shown us. How do we know Regina isn’t into zoophilia? How do we know the Charmings aren’t swingers? We’ve seen nothing to suggest either of those things but should we assume they are?

Hercules+Archie = CricketGod 😛 my headcannon, they met in the EF and Hercules was turned into a Dalmatian as his curse which is why Archie loves Pongo so much 😛

I think that OUAT’s Queer fanbase has been really alienated

I think a lot of people are very dismissive of the SQ ship but not necessarily a Queer ship in general. There are definetely a lot of Oncers who wouldn’t have minded seeing Elsa in a queer relationship as well as various other characters too, which is why I think this thread is nice, but when it comes down to those particular characters, Emma/Regina, I’m not on board with it. But then again, my OUAT social experiences mainly come from this forum and I know we aren’t as bad as Tumblr or Twitter or some of the other forums so I can’t speak about how other oncers there treat the situation. But I just wanted to say that. A lot of us aren’t against the Queer fanbase at all and welcome a queer relationship into the show and would love it so long as it well written, but not everyone who disagrees with Emma/Regina is against other queer relationships. Sorry if I’m rambling.

A) Between two main or recurring characters of the same sex/gender, preferable female owing to OUAT’s sizeable lesbian/bi fanbase B) Be completely unambiguous, you don’t skirt around CaptainSwan so why this? C) Not end tragically like 90% of lesbian romances I’ve seen lately. D) Be held on the same level as the “True Love” Snow and Charming have.

I would ship Archie with Hercules (if we are going against canon Disney ships). Archie would be the smart nerdy, level headed type, while Herc would be the aggressive and physical. I suspect Archie would be too shy to make the first move though…. Ah, if I wrote fanfiction 😛 Also, I like the idea that Mulan would go to the army and fall in love with Shang who would turn out to be a woman in disguise as a man as well and they fall for eachother. I forget who came up with that idea (RG, wasn’t it you?) but I really like it. It’d be a GREAT plot twist.

Personally, I have a lot of issues with how people ruling out Swan Queen because of the lack of writing, chemistry or it being somehow problematic support other ships with problematic elements

Hmmm… But aren’t these valid reasons to rule out a ship? If it isn’t being intentionally written, the chemistry isn’t clearly undeniably romantic, and it goes against an established ship, what’s wrong with people not shipping it? *genuine question, sorry if it sounds smug or anything >>*

It’s wrong that nearly 70 eps in and with 120+ speaking roles featured none of them have been unambiguously queer, and no queer relationships have been featured on a show with love

I have full faith that WHEN Mulan returns, they will give her a Queer True Love relationship at some point. They tested the waters with her and Aurora and it was met with positivity as far as I am aware. They can’t just go back and act like that never happened. They have to finish what they started. So for me atleast, its just a matter of time before we see a genuine queer relationship and im sure it will involve mulan.

If this is the case for any character, especially major ones like Emma or Regina, then its the writers job to actually lead us into it rather than just have it happen out of the blue. That’s one of my main reasons that I don’t ship SQ, its not because its a queer ship, its because I don’t believe either of them to be queer based on what has been shown from S1 till now. For Emma to suddenly be attracted to Regina isn’t realistic to me because I didn’t see any build up to it. Call It heteronormativity if you will, but if the writers way of hinting a romance between Emma and Regina is little side glances or other small things like what tumblr would have me believe, they are doing a terrible job. Look at True Blood for example. There was one character, Tara, who is suddenly a lesbian at the beginning of one episode. No build up, no foreshadowing, just suddenly she is in a committed relationship with another woman and it just came out of nowhere. That is not a good writing. Sure, in real life, people may realize their sexuality later in life but in TV-world we aren’t following every character around all the time, reading their thoughts and emotions. If they want us to know they are queer, they have to show us rather than just have it happen.

Im not. What makes Frozen an original Disney Princess film is that it focuses on the love between sisters rather than romantic love. The focus shouldn’t be about Elsa and some love interest, it should be about her and Anna. That’s the heart of the movie.

I’d be slightly miffed if this happened. Anna and Elsa’s sisterly bond is the whole point of the film. Not to say that making them half-sisters makes them less of sisters, but still. I’m sticking to my Elizabeth is “Grown Up Anna Who Became A Snow Queen in Present Day” theory.
