Maybe to give Rumple reason to have to kill Zelena so as to set up another obstacle for Rumbelle and cause her time-travel portal to open up or something, but I think those things could’ve easily been accomplished other ways
Indeed. I think Rump would have killed her anyway. Or perhaps trapped her in Pandora’s box. I dont think Neals death was used just for to get them to axe Zelena

Even for a casual viewer, because at that time I was still definitely in casual viewer territory, and I definitely wasn’t buying it
Just as input here, the whole “bad things would happen” thing, while vague, does make sense.
I once read a series where there was a certain character (think exactly Rumpelstiltskin, but WAY more powerful and way more evil) who could foretell the future. But he had to be careful about what he meddled in and how he did or else….”something” would happen and it wouldn’t be good for anyone (all we know is that it involved some kinds of “creatures” more powerful than himself that were…well…outside the walls of the universe, and seeing that he was the most powerful being like ever, those puppies most have been pretty bad-a**. It was extremely vague yet terryfying) so personally I wouldn’t have needed them to exactly define what would have happened if Neal stayed. It was Emma’s destiny to break the curse…. Screwing that up? Well I trust the universe or the powers that be wouldn’t allow anyone off the hook for that so easily… The consequences would have been huge and probably horrific…. Which is kinda cool >:)

Welll, I say no. Emma only went to SB after Henry brought her there. If Neal stayed, he and Emma raise Henry themselves, they have no reason to go to SB…. Unless August manages to convince her to believe in magic and that her parents were there (which Henry didn’t have to do, he got her to SB simply because she wanted to take him back to his adoptive mother) so I don’t think Emma would have much reason to go to SB especially if she is listening to a guy who is spouting the whole “I’m a wooden man” thing.
2) Do you think Neal ever tried to look for Emma?
I got the impression he was waiting on word from August that it was safe…and then he just…. Moved on with Tamara? I think he thought if Emma EVERY day, wondering where she is, if she’s okay, waiting to go to her…. Then things may have changed for him and he took pause… Nothing wrong with that though.

Yes to a certain degree. When Rump started using magic to harm others, Bae was right to tell him to cut the crap! Was Rump wrong for using magic in general? No. Was Rump wrong for making magical deals with people? No. Was rump wrong for turning people into snails and stepping on them. Yes. Should Bae prevent his papa from continuing into that darkness? Yep. BAe did the right thing, he was trying to help. Just didn’t work out.
4) Does Neal owe Rumple unconditional love and acceptance (a la Belle?)
I think this may be an unpopular opinion… But yes…maybe? No one can say Rump didn’t love his boy. It was apparent from when he first saw little baby Bae. Rump made mistakes. But he did everything he could to find his boy even if it meant the destruction of one land for the next. Neal doesn’t have to approve of his fathers actions. But he has to acknowledge that his fathers love for him is pure. And he should return that despite his dissapproval. *this is the part where Watcher types out a long winded post about her father and how much this situation reminds her of him and how she forgave him and loves him through all his many mistakes but then she deletes it because of stuff T_T*

Then they say we are just whiny because Neal is dead and our ship sank. Right *sarcasm* It goes deeper than that, but whatevs. I can recognize a well thought out story. I am a film major and hopefully one day, a screenwriter to be. I know bull when I see it and this show created quite a bit of it. Have ur ship all u want, but don’t get mad when others point out the flaws in the show and the ship.

What are those bold storytelling reasons they say he died for? Was it simply the shock factor? Unless S4’s plot is greatly motivated by Neals death (like maybe he and Elsa had a thing and them she goes berserk when she finds out he is dead and freezes SB) then I doubt there is or was ever a bold storytelling reason behind his death

That would be heaven.
oh no! I’d die!! The only way I could take that would be if I simply didn’t care for the show anymore. I used to obsess over True Blood spoilers until the show went downhill. After that, I didn’t care for spoilers, I just watched the show.

He would have tried to be a better father to Henry than what his dad was to him. He and Emma would have had some kind of relationship even if it wasn’t romantic and would have made a kickbutt team if I say so myself. Neal would have even bonded with Killian who is indeed his step-papa. Neal had so much potential.
I have to say, Neal was a strong person. He never gave up. Some would say him leaving Emma was an act of betrayal but it was a great thing, he gave up the woman he loved so that she could fulfill a destiny that was greater than either of them. There are some people on the world who would never do that. He escaped Pan, and found his way back to Neverlamd so that he could do it again, and he also resurrected his father, and made it so that Killian could escape the curse. Henry learns magic. That is the plot he should have. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened. I thought he would have been more involved in the NL thing but he wasn’t as much as he should have been. Rumpel defeating Pan was nice but it would have been cool if Henry would have dukes it out with him atleast once instead of giving him vital organs
