Thanks for asking the question, Nonnie, and thanks to Trickster for supplying the answer. I’ve been meaning to ask the same question myself. since first encountering the term here. Despite being a longtime Star Trek fan, I had never run across the term – it’s nice to know that two of my favorite shows share a connection.

I’d like to hear Granny tell more of her story.
timespacerParticipantI agree – perfect symbolism of the Phoenix as described by medchen and Phee. Could Emma’s temporary exile from Storybrooke and her eventual return (stronger than ever from her experiences in the Enchanted Forest) mark another cycle of death and rebirth?
timespacerParticipantIn “An Apple Red As Blood”, Regina described the sleeping curse to Snow with the words “You’ll be trapped with nothing but your own regrets.” Perhaps in the dream each victim sees someone they have lost. Henry sees Emma (“she”) and Aurora sees Phillip (“he”). Presumably Snow would have seen Charming. But then I think the coincidence of Henry and Aurora having the dream at the same time suggests maybe they were seeing each other as has been suggested, and I agree that opens up a lot more possibilities for the plot!
timespacerParticipantDoes anyone think Regina knows about the nightmare being a side effect of the sleeping curse? It’s not likely she and Snow ever sat down and discussed Snow’s experience. When Regina finds that her poisoned turnover has given Henry persistent bad dreams, how will she handle the guilt? Will it motivate her to help bring back Emma and Snow?

The posts in this thread have got me thinking about how Victor perceived his world. Seems like he’s one of those pioneers who first started investigating magic in a new way, creating the principles of science in the process.
I like that! Perhaps the magic in Victor’s world was not as obvious or as easily accessible as that in the Enchanted Forest. Maybe it is a world with just a little magic.

The second one is regarding the evolution of science from superstition. Actually, it was like a circle: in the Ancient Greek –well, and in Mesopotamia, in Egypt…- the philosophers were actually scientifics, the current difference between “those who think” and “those who practice science” didn’t exist.
Good point! I should have said that I was really concentrating on the shift from the medieval to the modern view. Many of the ancient Greek philosophers were attempting to find scientific explanations for the world and they certainly employed open debate (although most of them were a bit long on hypothesis and short on experiment).
For a chilling account of the Malleus Malifcarum, read Carl Sagan’s The Demon-Haunted World
You raise a very good point that we don’t really know how widespread magic is in the Enchanted Forest since we’ve only seen a handful of people using magic. We do seem to see most people going about their daily business without it, so as you say, those people must have a basic understanding of how the natural world works – which is a simple science.

This song has a connection to all the current speculation about the Wizard of Oz: the lyrics were written by Johnny Mercer for his lover, Judy Garland. For Charming and Snow, or for Rumple’s long quest to be reunited with Bae: I Will Wait For You by Astrud Gilberto.

Those are the first names of the characters played by Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews in Disney’s Mary Poppins and 2014 will be the 50th anniversary of the release of the movie. I think it would be great if they did a Mary Poppins episode, especially if they could get a cameo appearance by Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke for the 50th anniversary!
I see in the news today that Disney just bought LucasFilm and announced they plan to make more Star Wars movies. Will it be long before we see Princess Leia in Storybrooke? (I have this image of Leia taking out Aurora with a blaster!)
timespacerParticipantFavorite Moment: The look on Regina’s face when she had to let Daniel die. I thought Lana Parilla gave a great performance. It was also good seeing more of the flashbacks about how she became the Evil Queen. Blaming Snow in The Stable Boy was perhaps an understandable reaction to the shock of seeing what Cora did to Daniel but it was not enough alone to explain how she became so evil. We needed to see this part of her backstory.
I don’t think the writers are going to try to redeem her by blaming all her deeds on manipulation by other people. I think they just feel that she was shown to be *so* evil that some mitigating factors have to be introduced to make her character sympathetic enough for redemption. I agree we will have to eventually see her accept responsibility for her actions and I suspect we will eventually see that, but it may take a long time. That may be part of the reason we didn’t see a scene like the one Golden Key suggested in which Henry would forgive Regina.
Personally, I would like to see a moment where he offers her a little sympathy for the pain she suffered from the loss of Daniel and the pain she had when Henry lied about meeting her for lunch, even though he can’t (and probably shouldn’t) yet forgive her completely and trust her. It could be very dramatic for her to realize Henry is offering support to her in her grief over Daniel even while he is grieving over the possible loss of Emma and MM which Regina caused. Her redemption should be a long and difficult process and right now she has no one but Archie to offer her any support. An occasional nod of support from Henry when she makes a difficult good choice (like not using magic against Charming when he didn’t want to let talk to Daniel) along with admonitions from him when she backslides (which I think will happen) could make her redemption arc more believable and more dramatic.
