I’m afraid I won’t have time for the whole thing, but I’ll try to drop in for an episode or two.
Since I won’t be there for most of it and since I’m in the Eastern timezone, this next observation doesn’t apply to me personally, but I can’t help wondering if 7:00 PM Eastern is too early for people in other timezones. Three-fourths of the country won’t be home from work by the time you start. That’s a far less flexible constraint than the time for watching other TV programs (People actually watch TV programs other than Once????). I think most people who would be interested in this will probably have access to either DVRs, VCRs, or the ability to watch TV online, so people in the Eastern timezone could record anything else they might want to watch and still participate at 8:00 or 9:00 Eastern, while more people in the west would have time to get home from work. Just a thought.

timespacerParticipantI agree completely with JML:
The only measure of Regina’s “redemption” is whether she reacts differently to the same sort of occurrence that caused her to become the Evil Queen in the first season. If she reacts the same way, she really hasn’t changed at all. If she suffers the pain and becomes stronger for it (in a healthy way), we will see some virtue coming through. I have a feeling, especially since she used “White Magic” just recently, that she won’t revert back to the murderous queen.
Regina will not revert to being evil but there will be plenty of dramatic tension between Regina and Emma. I also agree with obisgirl that Henry and/or Snow will play peacemaker as well as helping Emma deal with guilt and Regina deal with bitterness. Ultimately, both of them will realize that preventing Regina from murdering one more person was a GOOD thing, not only for Marian but also for Regina. Imagine if Robin and Regina had gotten engaged and then Robin somehow discovered that Regina was the one who had killed Marian!
I hope they don’t kill Marian but instead show Regina becoming able to be happy that Robin and Roland were reunited with Marian. Furthermore, I’m still not convinced that Robin was really the guy in the tavern that Tink showed her. Remember we never saw his face. Just how common are those lion tattoos in the Enchanted Forest? Regina’s relationship with Robin may have been an important stepping stone in that it showed her she CAN have romance but more importantly it will show that she can forgive both Emma and Robin. Accepting that good can come out of a situation in which she was hurt, instead of seeing only her own pain, will be a huge step forward for her. She’s been willing to sacrifice her life for Henry, both directly and by saving people who were important to him. Now, being willing to sacrifice her own happiness for Robin and his family will be the final step in her redemption. So maybe Robin will be key to Regina’s future happiness not by being in a relationship with her but by making it possible for her to grow so that she can find a relationship with someone else.
timespacerParticipantThere is another possibility. We never saw the face of the man in the tavern when Tink said the one with the lion tattoo was Regina’s True Love. We all assumed it was Robin when we saw his tattoo but what if someone else has that same tattoo? Maybe Robin was just a “practice run” for Regina.
timespacerParticipantThe sword fight was pretty fun & yeah it did look like Hook was fighting his cartoon self
This is an interesting remark. Like others I had indeed noticed when those stills were released that BB looked a lot like the traditional Hook we know. So maybe this duel was supposed to depict the inner “duel” Hook’s having with himself, with BB representing the old, jaded, revenge seeking, bad guy Hook (the pirate aspect of him). Like he’s LITERALLY fighting with himself. Be the good guy who helps a woman find her love again, or be the pirate who only looks out for himself. Or I’m overthinking things again.
I think you’re right. I had exactly the same thought. It also reinforced Hook’s comment in an earlier episode, “I tried the hero thing – it didn’t work out.”
I also agree with once_dude that it seems an odd choice to introduce an actual historical person like Blackbeard into the story. They’ve never done that before, have they? If this was really Blackbeard (Edward Teach) , then how do we reconcile his death at the hand of Hook with the record of his actual death in 1718? I guess they could say this was some other pirate who just happened to have the same nickname, but why introduce such a needless confusion when they could have used any fictional pirate name, like Long John Silver?
Maybe they are setting up a deeper possibility here. Maybe the Once universe is filled with literary characters from our world including not only fictional characters, but real people whose lives have been written about so much that they have become mythologized. Maybe it’s not the “real” person who inhabits the Once universe but the mytholigized version of them which has somehow acquired a life of its own (So we might see the George Washington who cut down the cherry tree instead of the one who actually lived in our world.) This could be a natural extension of Henry’s observation in “In the Name of the Brother” that Frankenstein wasn’t in his storybook even though Dr. Whale is in Storybrooke. As Henry said in that episode, “…then who knows who else is in this town?” So maybe we can also see real people who have been written about. Does this mean Thomas Jefferson, Davy Crockett, or Harry Truman might show up in Storybrooke?
March 30, 2014 at 11:28 pm in reply to: Courage, Brain and… Heart! Henry the Tin Man? THEORY #257052timespacerParticipantI suggested the same thing over in the thread at
But there are some other good theories there too.
timespacerParticipantPersonally, I think it’s Neal who will be the reverse Tin Man. His motivation is his love for Emma and Henry and Rumple. The Tin Man thought he didn’t have a heart but of course he was the most emotional of the three. And, in the movie at least, the placebo the wizard gave the Tin Man was a heart watch. I will admit this is stretchy but it’s possible the Swan Pendant, last seen in Manhattan in the bar scene, is Neal’s totem and that’s what Zelena takes.
I like that – I forgot about the swan pendant. Now that you mention it, it does remind me a lot of the watch in the movie.
timespacerParticipantI really like the idea of Zelena taking symbols of the classic characters’ traits. So in that context, I agree that Charming is the Cowardly Lion.
I can see how Belle’s brain suggests she might be the Scarecrow, but I think Rumple is the Scarecrow. He was always very smart also and now he has lost his mind (i.e. “brain”) and this could be symbolized by his dagger.
So who is the Tin Man? Regina would be an obvious association with hearts, but since Regina is apparently the main target of the curse, I don’t think she would also be one of the other characters. My next choice was Snow since she certainly has a good heart and the spot of darkness revealed when Regina ripped out her heart could also be a bit of foreshadowing. I initially ruled out Henry because they already dealt with him losing his heart in Neverland and Regina cast that spell to prevent anyone from taking his heart again.
But now I’m wondering if I took the heart idea too literally and Henry might be the Tin Man after all. What if Zelena arranges for Henry to meet a little girl named Dorothy and he develops a crush on her so he “loses his heart” in the metaphorical sense? We saw the storybook surrounded by the smoke at the end of “Going Home” so we expect it to appear again in Storybrooke. The book might be the symbol of his heart. Henry might discard the book for Zelena to take if Dorothy teased him about being too old for fairy tales.
On the other hand, I also like the suggestion that Snow is the Tin Man, Emma is Dorothy, and Henry is Toto.
timespacerParticipantOeste is West in Spanish, too. FYI.
Good observation obisgirl! (I should have remembered my Spanish instead of my German.) The Spanish reference is more significant since we know King Xavier’s kingdom has been depicted as having a strong Hispanic flavor. That convinces me that the green lady is the W^3, especially since we saw at the end of the episode that she has some relationship with Regina.
timespacerParticipantGreat compilation by Rumple’s Girl! There’s no way I can improve upon that but I’ll offer a few ideas.
Since the First Doctor had such a mentoring relationship with young Susan, I’d suggest Henry for him (also because I think Jared Gilmore bears a slight resemblance to Carole Ann Ford.)
Zoe was one of the most intellectual companions for the Second Doctor, so I’d suggest Archie as a companion for the Second Doctor, given Archie’s academic background (even if he did get his Ph.D. from a curse!)
Hook’s military background makes me think of him as a companion for the Third Doctor, in place of The Brigadier.
No one mentioned K-9! The Fourth Doctor has to get Pongo as a substitute for K-9.
That’s all I can think of for now.
