I can see a lot of possibilities to use Zelena outside of the baby scenario. She is an extremely powerful witch with a lot of knowledge. She is an instant information source and can wield that information to gain more and more freedom within Storybrooke. She could become a Rumple-type character.
Thing is, if they use Zelena that way then they are stepping on a lot of existing regular characters toes. If Zelena is the information source, where does that leave Belle? As you say, Zelena is “powerful” with “a lot of knowledge” where does that leave Rumple when he does re-enter the story? Each existing character has a role to play within the group but if Zelena starts doubling up on those roles then you have a surplus of characters doing the same thing.
Call them the Once Scooby Doo Gang or Once Avengers.
Emma: The leader of the gang whose great in both physical and magical combat. Most powerful light magic.
Regina: Second in command whose able to get the job done the right or wrong way, also the most powerful in dark and sometimes light magic.
Henry: The gang’s cheerleader who roots for everyone, but can hold his own.
Robin Hood: The thief who can help the Once Gang gain or steal secret/locked away items.
Snow White: Hope speech giving, peace keeper whose good with a bow/arrow.
David: The sword swinging valiant hero.
Belle: Brains of the group who knows all the info on books and un-magical things.
Rumple: A now powerless sage/advisor of sorts whose able to train one in magic like no other.
Hook: A wise cracking pirate whose voyaged all the seas, navigator.
And now Zelena: A powerful witch with high knowledge of magic of nearly all sorts.
Everyone can have a part to play without stealing anyone else’s spot….if anything, Zelena will be the “Belle” of magic, knowing all things magical and enchanting. Rumple’s place would be like a sage or advisor now.

My prediction is that Guinevere is related to Regina from her father’s side of the family mostly because they are specifically casting a Latina. I think she’s suppose to parallel young Regina, in a marriage with Leopold.
Yes I considered that. There are also some legends that have Guinevere unable to get pregnant, which would tie back to Regina and what we learned at the end of 4B.
Dun…dun…dun…..Regina does have at least four to five uncles on Henry Sr’s side of the family….they could make Guinevere her cousin. But the specific Latina casting does have me wondering.
But I do agree with @RumplesGirl & @Sweets that perhaps Robin Hood once had a history with Arthur/Guinevere. A knight of the round table is a strong possibility.
But as for who may have the connection to Merlin….Zelena just comes to mind. The most powerful dark witch born and the most powerful light wizard…..hmmmmmmmmmm. Is it possible there’s some history between Merlena, ooops, I mean Merlin and Zelena?
But my most biggest question is….what does all of this mean for Morgana Le Fay?

Zelena has a message to the characters who may or may not lose screen time due to these promotions… 😛 Lol XD
Just kidding….but seriously…if Grey’s Anatomy can get at least 10/15 Series Regular Cast Members in every episode, and sometimes even put them all in at one time….maybe Once can do the same.
Perhaps this season will have more group scenes, that way you can at least see everyone in one episode. An example is when Regina, Henry, Robin, Emma, Snow, David, Hook, and I vaguely think Belle were all searching the Sorcerer’s Library together….probably like one of those type of group scenes.

Well, well, well….it would seem #OutlawQueen & #WickedSisters are here to stay. The baby issue, I’ve come to terms with it, and not totally alright with it, but can move past it. The Once Characters will get past it!

For MERLIN, Once is seeking a black Brit in his early 30s to early 40s and boasting a natural British accent to play “a man with great wisdom and intelligence beyond his years,” someone who has always put duty in front of his own desires, even at great personal cost.
I KNEW IT! I knew they’d want a younger Merlin!!!!!!!!! Though I truly have no idea who they could hire to play him….I’d liked to see Idris Elba tackle the role, but he probably doesn’t even know a thing about OUAT, and I highly doubt they can afford him.
ARTHUR is described as a “good and just ruler” who, beneath the surface, “is a master manipulator who can carry a grudge to the grave, and maybe beyond.” He harbors an “eternal burning love” for Guinevere that can lean toward being a bit… controlling. For this role, Once aims to cast a gent in his mid-30s to early 40s, and again a British accent is mandatory.
I think we know who could possibly be, or contribute to our Season 5A Villain….a “good and just ruler” on the outside but on the inside is a master manipulator, and a bit controlling….
The casting call for GUINEVERE, meanwhile, seeks a Latina in her mid-20s to mid-30s to play a “headstrong queen” who fell in love with her husband’s most trusted knight, the dashing Lancelot — previously played on Once by Teen Wolf‘s Sinqua Walls (at right), but (supposedly) dead in the current timeline. She now must balance her own happiness with the well-being of Camelot.
