Hopefully I’m doing this right, but please bare with me as I fill the role of the ‘conspiracy theorist’ of sorts. Seeing as my theories tend to be off the wall.
I was reading some episode reviews of the episode & I came across and idea found
here – ( http://www.tv.com/news/once-upon-a-time-real-love-27878/ ) / which I would like to expand upon in regards to the tree & the tree drawn on the vase in the Nolan’s home; which has been screen-captioned in the aforementioned link.My theory is that the tree is Yggdrasil ( also known as the ‘world tree’ ). The world tree was an ‘ash tree’, which are known for ‘linking’ worlds together. Which makes me think that this tree exists in both Storybrooke & Fairytale Land.
Expanding this theory – I believe that Pinocchio ( who I believe is ‘August’ / The Stranger ) may have been crafted from an ash tree / this same tree before he was turned into a ‘real boy’. Since the tree has linking properties, I came to the conclusion that would mean the memories of the Storybrooke counterpart would be linked to memories of Fairytale Land ( someone else who remembers? ).
The Well comes into play because I believe both trees gained their magical properties because their roots are deep enough to reach the magical water which fills the lake at the bottom of the well. ( Which means if the tree could bare fruit – it could be a literal ‘tree of knowledge’ – another bible reference; the show did it before with ep.5 *even if just in the title*. )
The well also acts as the bridge between the worlds. Which might explain Thomas’ disappearance in Fairytale Land; he fell into the well & ended up in Storybrooke ( though then there’s the problem of his memories – which is why this is only a theory, there are obvious flaws. )
Hopefully these theories aren’t too off the wall & at the very least, I hope I at least made someone laugh.

@ DanielJLewis ;; It probably helps that I’ve been studying/researching folklore / mythology since early 2009. But it’s a bit of an added bonus that the show has included Greek / Celtic mythos because those are what I specialize in. ( Though that siren was a bit of a let down; considering she had the option of simply sucking out his [Charming’s] soul – which would have been easy. )
But I’d miss Charming ( I wouldn’t miss David ).

😀I LOVE the Prince Thomas theory (I do see the memory problem)! Is it the same well? I actually thought the well in the RW is at the same place as the FTL lake.
I did so not see that vase … The tree theory is great,but I hope that if it connects it’s NEVER called Yggdrasil in the show. I just hate when they mix different mythologies (we already have Kind Midas and probably the Golden Fleece.).

I also wondered whether that well was the same one we saw around prince Thomas. I’ll look more closely and get screenshots when I rewatch the episode tomorrow.
When I saw the well, I thought is that the same well we saw in ‘The Price of Gold.’ It’s out in the middle of nowhere and so was the well, in The Price of Gold.
It was interesting to hear the magical qualities of water. and I thought, Emma drank the water. Is she all of the sudden going to have an instant link to the fairytale land? Like flashes or something? What happens to the Storybrooke residents if they drink from the same well? Will they remember?
I wonder if the stranger just said that about the well and it does not really have magical properties. I think that because the stranger was watching Emma find the book which suggests he placed it there for her to find so there wasn’t any magic in it, but she was trying to make Emma think that maybe there was magic in it.
@Mia ;; I think it could be the same well – lakes dry up after all.
I don’t think they’d call it Yggdrasil – mostly cause that name is just too hard to pronounce.
They’d probably call it the ‘Tree of Knowledge’ – seeing as they’ve used other Bible references already. ( I saw the Golden Fleece too & what I thought was the ‘singing golden harp’ from Jack & the Beanstalk.)@ DanielJLewis ;; Screen shots would be lovely. Based on my spatial memory I believe it’s the same one – although that’s not much to go on. Heh.
@obisgirl ;; Depends on who/if anyone else drinks the water from the well.@ hjbau ;; I think it’s a little bit of both. Yes – the stranger placed the book there but I don’t think he was lying/fibbing/exaggerating about the water having magical properties. ( Just my thoughts. ) Why would he bring it up if he didn’t believe it ( if he’ supposedly never lies )?
