If the person who controls the dagger controls the Dark One, wouldn’t it have made sense for Regina to have sent Moe after the dagger, rather than Mr. Gold’s favorite dishware? I get that stealing the cup was a way to flush Gold out and find out if he remembers Enchanted world. But if she can control him by possessing the dagger, it seems that it would be the bigger prize. AND I don’t expect she will get another opening to rifle through his personal effects.
So the question is, does she know about it? Rumpel found out about it from Dark One, the first. We know that the Duke was aware of the power of the dagger, but I would guess that knowledge is held close to the vest to avoid, oh, somebody burning down your castle and stealing it.
In any case, any guesses on where it is hidden? (And please forgive me if this was revealed in an episode that aired before I started obsessively recording them. 😀 ) In the shop? His house? Buried in the woods? I would love it if the blade was embedded in his cane just so he can keep tabs on it at all times.

The Cane idea sounds great (reminds me of Lucius Malfoy’s wand in the Harry Potter films), but I think the knife is too broad to fit in the cane.
I saw some knifes in the shop, but I doubt he would keep such an important object there (Then again, sometimes hiding things in plain sight is more effective …). So it either is in his house – in a safe maybe – or he may have buried it in the forrest! We saw him digging in “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter”, so maybe he hid the knife there (I actually doubt that, too, but hey, who knows.)?February 28, 2012 at 12:31 pm #137822hjbauParticipantMaybe Regina has the dagger.
February 28, 2012 at 12:39 pm #137823miaParticipantReally? 😐 Don’t you think she would have figured out what it was and what to do with it if she had it? I mean, why would anyone have a cerimonial knife with a name written on it, especially in a place magic exists. She knows and uses dark magic, surely she she would make sense of it fast.
February 28, 2012 at 1:27 pm #137824hjbauParticipantWe don’t really know how the dagger works except for the fact that it is what is used to pass the magic from one dark one to the next.
February 28, 2012 at 2:20 pm #137825SnickerdoodleParticipantI fall on the no one but Rumple knows side. And I too wish it was in his cane, but thought it to big. But if there are pieces of FTL kind of all around, like Snow’s glass coffin and pieces from that, then maybe only the people transported and not things, you know. Maybe Mr. Gold has been finding and collecting the things in his shop all these frozen years, and maybe he has yet to find his knife.
February 28, 2012 at 3:06 pm #137828rumplegoldfankristiParticipantI think Mr. Gold is keeping the dagger very safely hidden as I’m guessing he sees it as a sadly dangerous and powerful object since only he REALLY knows the ramifications of the dagger’s curse. I think he views it as an “I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy” kind of an object, knowing that Regina would probably “think” she would want to get her hands on it – just like he did. I think he wants to protect the dagger from other people and other people from the dagger, if that makes sense. So I don’t think Regina knows about the dagger. I do think at some point the dagger is going to come into play as part of breaking the curse and I think that it is going to involve Mr. Gold sacrificing himself.
February 28, 2012 at 7:42 pm #137845hjbauParticipantI agree that most likely Gold just has the dagger himself. I just thought that would at least give us a reason as to why he doesn’t kill Regina. There has to be more to their relationship then what we know now and there is. We will find out more in this Ep 18 and 19.
February 29, 2012 at 6:36 am #137863fairytaleprincessParticipantRemember what the Dark One told Rumple, ” I know how to recognize a desperate soul.” Then Rumple told Belle “My power means more to me than you do dearie.”. I agree that he is protecting others from the “Curse” that the dagger possesses, an eternity of loneliness and doing the bidding of others even while imprissoned. I can see many hurt people in StoryBrooke, two with pained souls neither one of them deserving the “curse” of the dagger, David and Mary Margret.
If Ragina knew about it she would of had no reason to enact the curse, just become the new Dark One and make Snow Whites life a living hell that way. It seems to me that she and Rumple were friends in Fairytale land and he wants to protect the ones he cares about so I think he would have kept the source if his power hidden.February 29, 2012 at 12:39 pm #137878hjbauParticipantWell even if Regina knows about Rumpel’s power she still might not want to become him.
