ParticipantI doubt many people consciously choose to straight up ignore scenes, but to the extent there’s any way to interpret differently, well we all bring our different experiences and subjective filters to bear. I don’t think that is ‘insulting” to the actors or writers, as someone once said on the CSF thread because life is full of subjectivity. You can try your best to act a scene one way, but of course, the writers create some shaded meanings with words they choose, music they play and what direction they give the actors. So at times it may not be that clear to the actors everything they feel in a certain scene because it is written to be unclear to the character, but sometimes to the actor too. As MRJ said, the future will further define the meaning of the present.
So we get Emma admitting she never stopped loving Neal, but some thought she was clearly done and over with him last season. Those shipping SF said no, she is denying her feelings. Turns out, that interpretation was right, she was denying it but the other might have been right without the hindsight knowledge we now have . When we saw promos, some were convinced that Emma’s lack of trust of Neal would lead her to pull a gun on him. Turns out it was quite the opposite. She asked him to watch her back! We debated the I need you, I love you scene all summer, concluding well no future intention because she thought he was dead. Then later this season, Emma straight up says she never stopped loving Neal, and even saying she will probably always love Neal–but the catch is right now, she is terrified to face the pain and not feeling happy to see him in NL. There’s ambiguity in this that kept the door open for people to hope that what Emma is saying is that she wants to move on.
I bet you, if someone asked Adam what Emma meant–did she mean she wants to move on, or did she mean she’s afraid to love Neal in the present because she’s afraid to lose him and deal with all the pain–he’ll say spoilers. Now why would it be spoilers? The scene already played! That people took such different interpretations of what she meant out of it just says to me that is what the writers wanted us to do. They can make it clear and if the show does not Adam is not shy on twitter (but I miss the podcasts).
Once or twice in those podcasts they said something like you could assume thi s or you could interpret that if you want. I think they know there will always be multiple truths in some scenes.

excellent way to put it. Everything will always be open to interpretation. Even when Emma makes a choice, the other side will interpret it the way they want.
Speaking of interpretation Regina and Emma sitting in the yellow bug. so now ALL of Emma’s main ships have been in that car. I feel better about Hook being in it now.

ParticipantI wonder if Emma trying to move on is what brings her back to Neal. I mean both tried to move forward relationships, Neal with Tamara (EVIL) and Emma with Graham (poor soul). Neither relationships worked out for either one of them. So it would be interesting to see if Emma tries yet again and still is drawn back to Neal. Although I love the idea of Neal and Emma choosing each other freely which I think they always did. Fate, destiny may have brought them to together but they fell in love all their own. Its like Mr. Gold told Emma about her heart, “Everything you have done, you’ve done yourself.”

I often see things like “it can’t be true love if Fate/PP brought SF together for the purpose of Henry. It’s just their genes,” but they forget that SF genuinely loved each other. It doesn’t take love to make a baby. AND in maybe one of the biggest parallels ever: it’s what Rumple did to Snowing.
Rumple made sure, through several deals and machinations, that Snow White and Prince Charming would meet and produce Emma. Because they were true love and only THEY could produce Emma.
Peter Pan (Rumple’s father), probably through several deals and machinations, made sure that Emma Swan and Nealfire would beet and produce Henry, the boy with the heart of the truest believer. And I think it’s because they are true love and only they could produce Henry through their love.

ParticipantThat is a great pic WR, only thing I would say is that Emma’s face and head looks slightly off unnaturally when compared to the rest of her body. Other than that, it looks great.

ParticipantOk spoilers about the latest TV guide article about this next episode, about the way J.Mo phrased something. She says she’s not ready to think about Neal or “anyone else.” So all season long they could not stop dropping Hook’s name every few seconds, could barely reference Neal, and now suddenly it is Neal (by name) and Hook (by generic place holder ) ? It feels like the marketing strategy has gone upside down now!

KeymasterKFC I noticed the exact same thing. I don’t know if she did that because there has been some negative feed back about the way JMo has referenced only Emma and Hook in the past few articles or if it means that Hook is going on the back burner while Emma and Neal focus on Henry (not Swanfire, just their son) or if it’s just because it appears MRJ was at the same interview. He speaks a little bit later in the article and therefore she’s just using him since he’s literally there with her. But yes, tables upside down

ParticipantI noticed that about the TVGuide thing as well. Ah, fickle media, slowly but surely driving us crazy. *sigh*

YES! What she is and who she is are two different things, and the who part is what fell in love with Neal.

Yes! Not only fell in love but remains in love and will always be in love with her Neal…the champion.
