ParticipantGrimm…Once again, it’s not all about Neal. It’s about the show. We would have preferred it if Neal stayed dead in 221. That was a beautiful ending for many of us. It’s really not just his death we are mourning. Really. It’s the character assassination and the complete about-face of the message of the show. Watching season 1-2 would not have been difficult had he stayed dead in 221. An honorable, meaningful death. But this senselessness and seemingly retconned-throw away all that we’ve established-episode just makes it difficult to even watch what has already happened. It’s not just about mourning Neal. We’ve done that before. It’s about this show that made us all feel alive, feel hope, feel wonder… the excitement is gone since they did away so poorly with stuff they’ve already established.
Perfectly said, CWL!!!

Participantlol… never mind then. This was a scary thread to post on. Funny with that strange red stripes and triangles that came on my screen before when I posted the first time.. perhaps it was trying to warn me.
I wont disturb you no more here then.

People HAVE responded in your thread. People HAVE responded in other many “Neal’s death is OK” threads.
Phee, Mick, ect.
This is a place of solace and mourning right now. Don’t make us out to be terrible people just because we have no desire to debate it.

ParticipantI think one of the things that keeps getting to me, on top of the actual death and the awful way it came about, is A&E’s continued claims that it had to happen, that this was the natural progression of his story. I just can’t shake the feeling that we’re being BS’ed right to our faces. While I realize that the damage control from actually telling things straight would probably be 1000 times worse, it just feels like something is rotten in the state of Denmark. I fully admit that I I’m not the most objective person about this whole mess, but nothing about the groundwork and breadcrumbs in s1 and s2 seem to justify this being the natural, or ONLY course of the story, and I want to stop hearing A&E’s talking points about the whole thing. Yes, maybe it will all make sense by the end of the season, but from where I’m standing right now I’m just confused and betrayed and nothing makes sense.
If they do another panel at SDCC this year I hope this comes up, especially if the remaining episodes do nothing to justify throwing the master plan out of a window and letting children with a box of crayons rewrite it. Oops. I might be letting my anger show through…

Participant@RG… I don’t know how you do it around here. Lurking is horrible enough. I cannot imagine if I had a duty as a mod. I applaud your strength and dedication.

ParticipantThe theme of fathers in general being historically painted in a negative light on this show for one.
That’s about the ONLY thing this death did for Bae – it officially broke the cycle of horrible father/son relationships on the show. Malcolm was a crappy father, Rumple was a crappy father… Neal, well, we’ll never know… he didn’t get much chance to be one, but from the moment he found out he had a kid, he sure tried to be a good father.
Malcolm let go. Rumple let go. TWICE, Neal made Emma let go. He didn’t have it in him to let go. Emma had to be the one to do it – the first time into the portal, the second time into death.

Where are the second chances? That is what I want to know. That promo pic is stuck in my craw like nothing else.

ParticipantHe didn’t even get a second chance at having a plotline! Somewhere I got the impression that he and Belle were going off on this adventure to save Rumple. Somehow, I don’t really think that 3×15 was much of an “adventure…”

ParticipantI’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything. I’ll let you all grieve in peace. :'(
Honestly, I don’t understand why I’m not as upset as you all are. Before the episode aired, I was very vocal about how I thought his death would be a terrible idea. I feel as if I’ve been brainwashed or something.
