I’ve been looking at the jewellery worn in Once, wondering if maybe they have deeper meaning, because gemstones have magical and healing properties, so I have been looking into that.
First of all mr. Gold’s beautiful moonstone ring (I love moonstone) is a seer’s stone, and Gold is a seer. It also brings emotional balance… not a bad idea for someone who is trying to control the Dark One inside of him. I think the ring might prove important for that.
Since earliest times, Moonstone has been a tangible connection to the magic of the moon – an amulet of protection for travelers, a gift of lovers for passion, a channel for prophecy, and a path to wisdom. Our ties to the moon are strong. As it waxes and wanes in cyclic perfection, it creates the tides and rhythms of our mother, Earth, and influences our behaviors, emotions and spiritual growth. Moonstone calms and encourages, teaching us the natural rhythms of life.
White Moonstone carries the energy of the new moon at the height of its power, stimulating psychic perception, vision and dream work. It can magnify one’s emotions, activating the kundalini energy in women and emotional balance in men, and is supportive in children to drive away nightmares or insomnia. So whatever the meaning of the ring, it will be doing him lots of good.
Cora wore a lot of red garnets (I don’t think they are rubies) before going to wonderland and her book and her candle also contained this stone
This site:http://www.crystalvaults.com/pages/crystal_encyclopedia/garnet.php has some interesting information on that.
As a Warrior’s Stone, Garnet served as a talisman in the Crusades for both the Christians and their Muslim enemies. [Megemont, 87]
Garnet is said to have been one of the twelve stones in the Breastplate of the High Priest, and has been used as a sacred stone by the Native American Indians, the South American Indians, the Aztecs, the African tribal elders, and the Mayans. It acts with speed to expand one’s awareness due to the flash of lightening contained within, and enhances one’s internal fire to bring creative powers to implementation. [Melody, 290]
Garnets whose color suggested that of blood, were not only believed to confer invulnerability from wounds, but some Asiatic tribes launched garnets from their sling bows, and later as bullets, the principle being the blood-colored stone would inflict a more deadly wound than a leaden bullet. Such were used by the rebellious Hanzas, in 1892, during their hostilities with the British troops on the Kashmir frontier, and many of these precious missiles were preserved as curiosities. [Kunz, 33-34]
Seems garnets have a bloody past… especially blood red ones. Yet they are also good to transfer creativity (or magic perhaps?)
After Wonderland we see Cora wearing a Hematite necklace. Again a bloodstone, when you cut or polish a hematite the water goes bright red, like blood. Native American folklore states that war paint made from hematite will make one invincible in battle. Hematite also absorbs (negative) energy… I wondered if this is a clue as to when she has ‘lost’ her heart. Red garnet, for when she still had it. Hematite to represent the gaping hole.
Hook, I do believe has red jasper in his rings. This represents the base chakra, which is placed in the *cough* groin area * cough cough cough* which might explain his sensual nature (aka mr flirt) as well as his immature behaviour, as the base chakra is also associated with the earliest stages of life where Hook seems to be stuck in. Good news too:
Jasper is known as the “supreme nurturer”. It sustains and supports through times of stress, and brings tranquility and wholeness. Jasper provides protection and absorbs negative energy. It balances yin and yang. It encourages honesty with one’s self. Provides courage to assertively tackle problems. Aids quick-thinking and promotes organisational abilities. Jasper stimulates the imagination and transforms ideas into action. Prolongs sexual pleasure. It supports during prolonged illness and re-energises the body.
So hopefully they will knock some sense into him… When he is not on the floor. There is definately hope for redemption.
Lastly, in the Queen is Dead we see Eva wearing diamonds and little Snow has a pearl on a necklace. Both stand for purity and pearl has the added bonus of innocence.
Now that’s what I saw so far, I’m sure there is more. If you saw something but don’t know the stone, post a picture. I can usually identify the stone (it’s an addicti…ehm … hobby, I cut and set them too… *treasure, matey, treasure, oh my precious*) and will either know or look up their meaning.

They look like they go together, but don’t really look like wedding rings, (though he also wears a band on his thumb that looks potentially wedding ring-ish). Perhaps one is his and the other belonged to his father, or something like that?
March 5, 2013 at 12:50 pm #177285spinninggoldParticipantWell, he and Milah had an unconventional relationship (as in she was still married) so why not unconventional rings…. So who is up for frame watching that episode? 😆
Send me pictures!
Oh the huge garnet in this brooche (too big to be called a tie pin) Rumpel wore was probably a hint to being Cora’s Master.
It’s soooo pretty.March 5, 2013 at 1:49 pm #177291RumplesGirlKeymasterGold’s ring is also the exact color of Emilie’s eyes. I noticed that for the first time in Skin Deep. *and then cried*

I love wearing it
March 5, 2013 at 2:08 pm #177299RumplesGirlKeymasterThat’s interesting. I think it’s color (and how close it is to Emilie’s eyes) is why they chose it, though.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 5, 2013 at 2:15 pm #177303spinninggoldParticipantNope I don’t think so. The ring was there since day one, episode one, first time he is in the screen and takes granny’s money… And I don’t think the Belle episode was even written back then.
March 5, 2013 at 2:21 pm #177304RumplesGirlKeymasterHappy coincidence then. 😀

None of Hook’s jewellery has anything to do with Milah, (which sort of surprises me) because he’s been wearing the same things since that first scene in the pub where they met.
He’s also got the earring and pendants.
March 5, 2013 at 3:01 pm #177312jessieparadoxes of peopleParticipantHave you also noticed that Hook’s little earring is changed?in a couple eps,it’s dark blue;later it’s white. And I was wondering if Emma’s circle necklace had any significence.Could it possibly represent that she’s part of a whole?Another person and I were discussing the necklace on Facebook, and she also said that the circle is often a part Emma’s surroundings,too(i.e.her nusery)
