From a interview Jane Espenson gave:
Rumple’s Blue Ring is just a cool ring… NOW. It could become significant in the future.

Opal is a stone of sympathy and compassion, pure thoughts Opaland confidence. It is the most unpredictable stone, a symbol of ever-changing fortune.
Someone said he was full of wuuuuuuuuve *giggle
An opal stone was inserted into a crown of Roman emperor Constantine who claimed that this stone shines in darkness, and believed it protects imperial authority, and his life. In his numerous stories about Opal he mentioned one miracle property of this stone which will allow the wearer to become invisible. Naturally, opal became the talisman of thieves.
Well here is a Dark one that can use some light and likes to be an invisible fly on the wall sometimes, so he can say : Taadaa, Rumpelstiltskin, at your service.
Some people thought Opal is a stone of “vain hope” while others believed that Opal’s sparkles clarify mind, give pure thoughts and drive fears away. In the East Opal was considered the stone of faith and love, in Europe it was a symbol of hope and happiness. According to Delphian oracle, Opal is a symbol inconstancy, typical in beautiful women. Shakespeare also shared this opinion. Astrologists consider Opal a stone of the Moon.
He has a mind like a razorblade… And between Cora and Belle there hardly could be more difference… Well, they are both redheads, and that’s it
Opal talisman boosts foresight. According to some legends Opal’s wearer can telepathically influence other people – if not for his own profit. As a talisman, Opal is supposed to be worn on the right index finger, gold-mounted.
Sounds familiar? See the future, master manipulator… And the stone is gold mounted… and mounted on a mr….bad joke, very bad joke
So moonstone and opal are definate candidates and after the picture up close I definately started to doubt myself
This is Opal
this is moonstone
Can any of you tell? Espcially when quality varies. Like I said, a good opal is made by the flecks, the fire. A lesser stone would have less fire. With moonstone, it’s the opposite, less imperfections make it a better stone.
So I honestly can’t tell.March 13, 2013 at 10:04 pm #179712jessieparadoxes of peopleParticipantIt’s a magical stone that changes when it has a mind to!!!!! 😆

And then there is paste: opalite. Nothing more than fancy glass
March 14, 2013 at 6:39 am #179833erinParticipantI noticed that after Hook stabbed Gold, the stone turned red.
March 14, 2013 at 7:59 am #179836spinninggoldParticipantWe have to consider that that’s completely down to CGI, the hearts don’t glow on set either, until a computer adds some special effect.
Hmmm, that would mean though that Jane is a liar liar pants on fire… Must rewatch episode 15…. the horror 😆
I think that the ring is trying to imitate one of those stones though, and somebody in costume does know about the background of stones….. but it could be either one, because it is only imitation.
Just like the emerald in Snow’s ring isn’t likely to be emerald IRL.March 20, 2013 at 5:48 pm #181158spinninggoldParticipant
Thank Priceofmagic’s caption thread for this but this clear picture together with some of you who described it, suddenly made it clear
This is a good example of the stone, but smaller, like the bead of an earring they get a smokey milkey see-throughA stone that can be black, white (or more like clear) and blue. Labradorite, black on a light background, white on black and an electric blue oilshine in the right angle which will depend on the stone
Labradorite is said to provide quick relief from anxiety, hopelessness and depression, replacing them with enthusiasm, self-confidence and inspiration. It is said to dispel negativity and to bring clear understanding by enhancing clarity of thought and improving one’s ability to cooperate with others in harmony.
Sounds like he could use that… and from time to time, has it, like whenhe climbed the beanstalk with Emma
Labradorite is also said to give perseverance, strength and enhanced intuition when one is experiencing times of conflict and change. Labradorite is told to be helpful in treating eye and brain disorders, and to help regulate metabolism and the digestive process.
Well he has only tried to kill Rumpel for what? A few centuries?
A sister to moonstone, labradorite links to the “darker” Crone aspects of the Goddess, and grants inner knowing of Mystery. It enhances intuition and psychic perception; just like the cord-cutting Crone, it helps the bearer to release judgment, and understand their destiny. Use it to bring Light to the shadowed realms of the self and to connect with the power of the waning Moon.
Waning moon, the end, death…Like killing a Rumpel, who… wears moonstone. It would pretty much make the Yin and Yang

The Dragon also wear an amulet with a red stone/jewelry around his neck. Now I wonder what kind of red stone that is.^^
