My daughter (who is 11) pointed out that in Pixie Hollow, the fairies used Moonstone to make blue pixie dust whenever there was a blue moon.

Haha. Funny you should mention that. I thought it was hilarious that in the initial reactions podcast they likened it to the chocolate diamonds that were being aggressively marketed during the episode. XD

Well Regina said it was a diamond and diamonds are energy amplifiers. Black stones usually absorb energy though and that was exactly what it was doing: Sucking the magic out of the air.
