Posted this in another thread, but it fits here too…
I just rewatched Manhattan and noticed a few bright green items in his apartment. The hallway outside and his window sill are painted green. His TV is, like, Kermit green and stands out like a beacon in the middle of the apartment. The beads on the dreamcatcher are green. At one point there’s a shelf behind Neal, and it’s all lit up in green. There’s a bright green packet of chips, (I think) on the coffee table, and a little footstool thingo that has a green top on it in that same shot too. And there’s a green plant out on the fire escape. Obviously green isn’t the only colour in there, but once I’d noticed the TV, which was very prominent, it drew my attention to all the green.

All the green really stood out to me too. If not Neverland/Peter Pan, I’m think Neal could have connections to Oz… maybe the Wizard. There would be a lot of irony there, considering the Wizard wasn’t magic like he was thought to be.
I hope Bael is involved with Neverland/Peter Pan material, but you never know with K&H. The dream catcher is definitely more of a Peter Pan reference I think. He could have met the Indians (not meaning to be rascist) in Neverland and learned to make them. Maybe we’ll see Tiger Lilly as a character!
February 18, 2013 at 5:07 pm #174094SlurpeezParticipantAlso, in “Manhattan” there was that exchange between Rumple and Baelfire in which Rumple wanted to turn back the clock so that Bae would become 14 again and forget his painful memories. To this, Baelfire exasperatedly exclaimed, “Fourteen! I don’t want to be fourteen, again! Are you insane?….Take away who I am? No thanks.” Neal likely spent centuries stuck in perpetual adolescence, and probably had to work really hard to grow up by staying in our land.

Especially the “I don’t want to be 14 again!” line. If he was stuck as a 14 yr old for 250+ years he wouldn’t want to go back.

I think the problem with Oz is that people age in Oz, at least traditionally. It’s not like Neverland where people can stay young forever.

Agreed! Oz is highly unlikely. The aging dilemma (especially in the Canadian promo) really seems to scream Neverland. The real question now is: Peter Pan or Lost Boy?
Considering the Blue Fairy was looking out for Baelfire, that might lead to an origins story of Peter Pan and how he got involved with the fairies.
There’s much more to Blue than we know, i’m sure, but I’d like to think that she’s good and is looking out for Baelfire. Could she be Tink?
February 18, 2013 at 6:08 pm #174128gypsyParticipantI agree. I don’t think they are alluding to Oz as far Neal/Bae is concerned.
There are way too many Peter Pan clues connected to the name Neal Cassady an to NY, itself.February 18, 2013 at 7:20 pm #174148TheGoldenKeyParticipant@SpinningGold wrote:
I think the writers made one crucial mistake there though…. If time is paralel… Then howcome we know the fairy tales… My reasoning was that because time was kinda blurry, some fairy tale creatures landed in the past and became story tellers. The Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson, Charles Perrault. So I do believe that that’s a missed opportunity if that’s true.
I don’t know that time here, in the real world is parallel to the Enchanted Forest or Neverland. I think what they’ve showed us is that time between the Enchanted Forest is parallel to Neverland.

As Stephen King once put it : Stories are ageless, timeless.
Every night a mom or a dad opens a story book and reads a story to their child…for the first time, or for the 100th time….each time that book is opened, the story inside starts over from the beginning. -
