The 60’s Hippie Philosophy was based on the Beat Writers. Cassady DROVE the “magic school” bus for the merry pranksters and help to usher in the acid era. LOL!
Interesting… They also call Cassady the Pied Piper of Beat Generation.
This further confirms my suspicions of him being connected to Wonderland somehow.
Tune In, Turn On, Drop Out…

…on a bus to Neverland. LOL!!
I know, but I am still hopeful he also has ties to Wonderland.
I followed the Dead for about 10 years on the East Coast. My ex was writing his PHD on the Dead at the time. We went as Merry Pranksters one year for Halloween. 🙂
There is a special place in my heart for the 60’s. My mom was a civil rights activist during that time and was arrested more than you can imagine. I love how people who don’t conform to societal norms are so frequently negatively labeled. Perhaps we will also see this reflected in the Mystery Man.

P.S.S I saw the Dead play the Other One in concert – it was Fantastic. My favorite song I saw performed will always be Terrapin Station. How about you?
October 24, 2012 at 3:23 am #157895hjbauParticipantNeal. That is such a weird name.
October 24, 2012 at 3:22 pm #157952gypsyParticipantKalliope – I have been a Dead Head for over 30 years. I have been to many many concerts. I love too many songs to really name a fave, but, “Must Have Been the Roses” and “Steal Your Face” are awesome live!
I totally love that K&H are Dead Heads and created Geronimo Jackson for LOST and carried it over to OUAT. As soon as I saw NY City guy’s name was Neal Cassady, I freaked! I was like, here we go with The Dead 🙂October 28, 2012 at 1:11 am #158237sola1839ParticipantGuys! remember that August ran away with a bunch of other kids. It could be that one of those kids is Neal. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense for him to know about the curse. See, it can’t be Bae because Bae left Fairy Tale Land waaay before the curse was created and before most characters were born (save Hook and Rumpel). So that means Bae can’t have a connection to any Fairy Tale character. They were all cursed when they came here with no memories until recently. That means Neal either came here right before the curse hit via a alternative route (and must have known about the curse before it hit) or he’s friends with someone that knew about the curse and wasn’t affected by it (Henry, Emma, Pinocchio). Emma couldn’t have been the one that spilled about the curse because she didn’t believe in it until recently. The most likely person is Pinocchio. And if he’s anything like the person his name comes from, he’s probably someone that ran with Pinocchio. Although it does seem that Pino was wooden when the postcard was sent.
October 28, 2012 at 3:31 am #158239gypsyParticipantWhy would one of the other kids that August/Pino ran away with be receiving a postcard with the word “Broken” on it? We are not even sure who sent the postcard, yet. I know Bae left way before the curse. The BF told Bae to follow the bean “wherever it leads you”. Bae could also be Peter Pan, if the bean lead him to Neverland, where he spent some time not aging. Peter Pan could travel to ‘our world’. He coulda been in our world when the curse hit, and that’s why he was stuck here, and why the curse led the rest of them to Storybrooke- to our world.
Bae could know about the curse…Jefferson is a realm jumper…he coulda met up with Bae in Neverland and/or our world at any point in time.
There were Wonderland clues in Neal”s apartment….????My friend TheGoldenKey has a great theory- about Bae/Peter Pan/Henry’s father/ Neal Cassady- it’s posted on here.
Her theory is what lead me to look into the Neal Cassady clue……the Grateful Dead, Geronimo Jackson, Peter Pan connections do seem to fit.All speculation, at this point, but that’s the fun part 🙂
November 1, 2012 at 1:58 pm #158886RumplesGirlKeymasterI’m not sure if this has been said already, but is it possible “Neal” is just a stand in name for the characters real name? A big clue, to be sure, but not what he will be called in the end? Because I have this fantasy playing out in my head where at some point in the flashback Emma will call him “Peter” and then the theory of Bae/Peter Pan/Henry’s dad will be correct and I can be happy.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 1, 2012 at 2:05 pm #158888RumplesGirlKeymasterAlso, if I remember my On the Road correctly, Neal Cassidy was the real life stand in for Dean Morairty, who was obsessed with (among other things) his father and family.
