Since the Hook casting the curse with the JR theory is now dead, I am now 90% sure he either used its ashes or turned it into a wardrobe to create a portal. Explains how Hook kept his memories and why the JR is missing in action.

“I made a portal out of my ship” See. Easy.

I think it comes down to a pride thing, rather than trying to hide anything shady. The JR isn’t just a ship to him. It’s his home, and a symbol of his piratehood. This would not have been an easy decision for him to make. Destroying the JR just for a woman he loves would spread the word that he’s gone soft, like Blackbeard said if he had chosen finding Eric over the JR. Maybe he’s also too embarrassed to let Emma know how he came down to making this decision. Also, both the scene with Neal and the conversations between Hook and Zelena clearly show that Hook never aligned himself with Zelena. Nor was it likely in Zelena’s plans for Hook to retrieve Emma. She kept Walsh in NYC to make sure she never leaved, because Emma’s magic was a threat to her. When that failed, she turned to option B with the cursed lips.

No one would know. They were literally swept up moments later in a curse and forgot the whole year.

I never made any such assumptions. I said it was odd he hasn’t just out right said anything. Nothing to do with “he must be in league with the witch, guyz!!!!!!”

Why did Emma even need to be involved with separating them at all? Why could Rumple not have enough coherent, independent thought to be able to merely say Zelena’s name, if Neal could summon enough coherent, independent thought to know that he had to not drink the potion, and compose a note, and have a conversation with a dove? The writers have just contradicted themselves and bent their rules, and, just, *sigh*
On the plus side, Neal once again displays his ability to be selfless and heroic, like he’s done many times before, so at least that’s consistent.

Gods, yes!
Neal totally and completely separated himself from Rumple and his his dying breaths wrote out a message and called a bird and sent off memory potion.
Rumple even managed enough coherence to talk about Glinda.
So in SB it makes even less sense that one of them couldn’t just say “Zelena is the witch!”

She doesn’t believe anyone can create any more portals because she couldn’t. Doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Regina is by no means omniscient. And they already pointed out there are physical boundaries to the curse – Eric & Ariel were outside of those boundaries. Aurora and Philip were outside the boundaries. So there’s no reason Hook couldn’t have been outside the boundary as well.
I still think Hook traded the ship for a means to create a portal. Quoting Neal “lots of things make portals”. We, as the audience, may not have even seen all of the things that can create a portal. So I still think it’s as simple as he traded the boat for the portal-maker.
It looked like it was taking everything Neal had to separate from his father to get the note out, before he either died or had to return to the shared body. I doubt the message was long, and I doubt it ended with ‘love and kisses, Neal’. Neal knew Hook left as soon as they returned to the EF, and Neal knows Hook’s one of the few that might be willing to get involved in this new mess, so it makes perfect sense he sent the message to Hook. I think in SB, someone probably told Neal Hook got a note to get Emma, which is why he thanks him. God knows Emma was telling everyone and anyone for about 4 episodes Hook found her.
April 28, 2014 at 6:44 pm #264723GaultheriaParticipantNeal was submerged when the curse hit Rumpel, so I think Neal just got carried along without experiencing the memory effects.
As for Regina always saying “it can’t be done”, she seems to be just a user of magic, while Emma and Zelena are creators of magic.

April 28, 2014 at 6:50 pm #264725Hook’s GirlParticipantDid anyone notice that the memory potion bottles are different? The bottle Neal sent to Hook was green and the message wasn’t on a piece of paper, it was cloth. Hook gave Emma a purple bottle and a piece of paper. Hmmm. Are they the same potion? Does the same memory potion protect one’s memories and can restore them? Or does it require 2 different potions?
Could the green bottle been drank by Hook to keep his memories so he could then scrap up a different memory potion for the purple bottle to give to Emma & hopefully Henry? That would make sense to what Hook said to Emma in 3×12 about only being able to scrape up enough for 1 memory potion and about the mention of the bird in 3×13 giving him a memory potion. Apparently Hook didn’t know it was Neal who sent the meassage so who told him where Emma was and gave him Neal’s address?
