If we’re talking about selective amnesia, I was wondering if and when Rumple gets free, if he would remember what Neal did since they shared a body? Would Rumple remember that Neal sent the message?

I hope so. Everyone should know that with hid dying breaths, Neal made sure someone went and got the Savior.
(I’ll be over here in this corner eating my hair)

They both had moments of clarity but for the most part were in a state of confusion. Some of what’s going in and coming out makes sense, but other times it’s chaos. We saw Rumple be able to surface to get information to Belle. Neal became cognizant in a more extreme way, but that’s not entirely out of character for Neal. (Ahem, how they got joined in the first place) The thing I think they want you to take away from the scene is that Neal is the person who got the message to Hook.
The more I think about the hospital scene, the more I think Neal is speaking, partly, because of his first hand knowledge, but he’s also probably been caught up on the recent events. So it’s not surprising he knew about the note and Hook retrieving Emma in New York. And I think the scene is also meant to show that they both recognized recent actions and finally decided to put their big boy pants on and act like the 300 year olds they are.

Don’t think that’s the only thing you are supposed to take away from it. You’re also supposed to recognize that if had Neal not fought off what his father wanted and left Rumple’s body everything Snow and Charming and Regina just did would have been for nothing. The last thing Snow and Regina knew, Zelena cursed their spell to forget the past year and that the whole killing Charming thing would have been in vain. He might be alive thanks to Snow sacrifice and Regina’s magic, but the only reason their baby is going to be okay is because Neal was a hero. If Neal in that moment hadn’t left his father and ensured that someone went to get Emma then Zelena would have them all trapped in SB, taken the baby and changed time.

Yep. Hook would still be off sailing whatever realm. Emma would be engaged to a Monkey. Zelena would be the midwife in the delivery room ready to snatch the Snowflake no worries, because they never found out who she was. They’d all have just wandered around without their memories with no way to break the Curse because Henry wasn’t in town and no one could go get him (Snow probably could have, as Curse caster, but she didn’t remember so didn’t know). In that minute or so of screentime, Neal was the hero who saved them all. If they defeat Zelena, that’s possible because of events Neal set in motion when he had the strength to send that note.
