ParticipantAwesome post @POM!
I love that despite your reservations about Hook, you where open minded enough to give him/ the writers/creators a chance to prove he was changing & ‘good enough’ for Emma 🙂LOL @Jenna_B, today I was accused of shipping CS just because Hook is hot LOL. Cant believe that stupid argument is still being used to try degrade your ship lol- it’s honestly laugh worthy & shows just how immature some of the haters really are 😉
I think SF shippers never accepted the fact that Emma didn’t have romantic feelings for Neal for so long and Neal coming to her life again didn’t change it.
Agreed @ilayda
looking back at how things ended and where Emma ended up after Neal left, it would have been very difficult to rekindle that relationship. That’s the thing, I think most SwanFire ‘shippers don’t understand. I look at what happened in Tallahassee and I feel sorry for Emma because it was a traumatic event from her point of view. SwanFire fans look at it and see it more, probably from Neal’s perspective and don’t understand Emma’s trauma.
If I were in Emma’s situation, regardless of the circumstances of why he left, I would not let the man back into my life romantically AT ALL. Because there’s too much of a risk that he would hurt me again.
Yes, this.

ParticipantTo answer one of your Frozen questions @Bo-Peeps
Was that the Snow Queen, or Frozen’s Elsa, in the final moments?
Adam Horowitz: That was Elsa.So you’ll base the character on Frozen and not the original fairy tale?
Horowitz: We are dealing with the world of Frozen. We are honored to be allowed to do it. We loved the movie. We fell in love with it when it came out last year like everyone did, and we want to do our best to do it justice.
Eddy Kitsis: [What] we loved so much about the character of Elsa was that she was considered a villain but she never really was. She was misunderstood. That, on our show, speaks to us so strongly, that it was a toy we had to play with. It’s funny because I see lots of people [saying] “Oh! Did Disney ask them to do this?” It’s quite the opposite. It’s actually quite hard to get these characters on the show. It’s not like you get a call from Mickey Mouse saying, “I want you to sell mermaids this week.” It’s the opposite. It’s very hard to get these. We were very honored that Disney allowed us to take this toy off the shelf and let us play with it.CS stuff from A&E finale interview 🙂
Another big moment was Hook and Emma coupling up. What’s in store for them?
Kitsis: We know Emma’s a tough one, and I think we want to explore exactly that: What does it mean? What does it mean now? Is it a kiss or is it more? If it is more, how does Emma feel about starting a relationship after just destroying one?
We also have to talk about Present-Day Hook punching Past himself in the Enchanted Forest in the Past. Did you want a clone scene?
Kitsis: We loved the idea of Hook being jealous of himself. We wanted Hook to punch himself.
Horowitz: And kissing Emma. It was a fun moment for us, but there was a serious subtext to it, which is that it’s Hook looking back on the man he was. He’s another character who’s evolved some. He knows that that Hook with Emma is not something he wants to see.http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/once-a-time-finale-frozen-elsa-season-4-703314

ParticipantThey take any word or action of Hook and twist it into something very ugly. For example “I will win your heart” becomes I will ignore your wishes and make mine. “I will win your heart” is a phrase that I’ve seen since I was a kid and always took it as “I will become/show you that I am the kind of man you can love”. Nothing dastardly about that. When Hook offers to step aside to give Neal a chance with Emma, I thought that SF fans would be over the moon with happiness and like Hook. Instead they were angry with Hook for giving Neal fair warning that if Emma was not able to let go of the hurt Neal inflicted on her, then Hook would purse her. I think it was good of Hook to clearly spell out his intentions. Neal doesn’t get dibbs on Emma because he knocked her up over a decade ago. Hook being steadfastedly at Emma’s helping her, becomes he’s harassing her and forcing himself on her. No matter that she sought him out on occasions.
I will be honest, I did have some issues with Hook in 3A. I didn’t like the “When I win your heart, and I will win it” line because to me it implied that Hook was telling Emma he WILL win her and that Emma didn’t have a choice in the matter. Also the Hook/Neal scene came across as if Hook was giving his permission for Neal to try with Emma and then Neal tried with Emma which implied he was waiting for permission so both guys didn’t come off great there. Same with the lighter scene, both guys didn’t come off great there. Then there was the whole Hook trying it on with Tink, which made Hook look like a bit of a douche because of the what if factor. What if Hook had tried it on with a woman who was more receptive to his advances and they slept together. He supposedly loved Emma but tried it on with another women just because he was “hurting”. What would he have done if he and Emma had got together, had an argument and he was “hurting”? etc
CS with the Hook of 3A wouldn’t have worked. However, CS with the Hook of 3B and especially the finale would work. 3A was not the right time for CS.
It is hard for me because it not only impacts my view of Neal but of Rumple as well. Because so many of the SF fans are hardcore Rumple fans (so much so I thought initially it was their love of Rumple that was buoying their love of Neal) that it makes me root against Rumple’s happy ending. POM you give me hope on that front, since I know you are a hardcore SF fan, so who knows maybe I will like Rumple again.
I’m a hardcore RumBelle fan rather than a SF fan. SwanFire was okay but RumBelle will always be my OTP.

ParticipantHitting a lot of your comments, surayya and others because I have to make tracks for the rest of the day!:
Thank- you for the comments about Frozen! I realize it was quite the coup for Adam to get the rights, I’m
just not sure that going the Elsa direction will give enough challenge to the show just by having her ‘misunderstood’. OUAT should have a serious baddie to combat for a substantial season. It will be a daunting path to create the right tone. I can see several “frozen” scenarios including the use of TLK to save the ones “ice-ified”!Including our luscious leather dude (grin). A&E usually pull out a twist or two. I hope they can give Elsa enough of an edge
That is an instant classic gif of Hook’s table bump! Ha! A surefire sassy fanfic spawn if there ever was one.
The book pic is quite…perfect…isn’t it?
Regarding the “hotness” of Hook:
>Ahhh yes, the “jealousy” accusation. So are the accusers pointing out that Neal “isn’t” hot? (Snork) or perhaps they are afraid of facing/embracing the (gasp, horrors) sexual attraction involved with love. Degrading? Tsk tsk. Essential!
You bet I adore the Captain because he is a walking talking sensual hunk of Hubba Hubba. AND he’s a witty, soulful, brooding, passionate, romantic on the inside. The full meal gourmet deal, Baby!
Neal was a lukewarm tater tot. (Grin)
Seriously, though, Neal was a solid symbol of dashed hope and painful disappointment to adult Emma. From her point of view(which, by the way, is the only one that matters) he abandoned/deserted/punked out on her. He didn’t have the guts to stick it out no matter what. And when he did bump into her again, he was still quite passionless. (Bae what happppened? Ack!)
There really never was any contest between Neal and Hook. I agree with ilayda as well. Neal was all about the painful past. A reminder of how taking emotional risks could be devastating. Hook is all about the passion filled, potential here and now. Taking emotional risks could save your damaged soul 🙂
Neal’s best and truest relationship /love was with Rumple.
PoM ~ while Hook HAS been a work in progress, and the lighter scene was pure middle school eye rolling WTH were they thinking idiocy, I didn’t see his other comments the way you did (smile). He pretty much had me from “yo-ho”, yes, but the “When I win your heart” speech was made, I felt it was a very sincere and poignant declaration of his deep feelings and dedication to being the man who would be worthy of her love.
Honestly there were times (and probably will be more) when I have felt that Emma should prove herself worthier of his love!
Rumple is a particular favorite of mine. Though I really struggle liking the actress playing Belle I wholeheartedly adore the storyline of their love. Probably because of the excellence of Carlyle’s acting, especially as Stiltskin. I thought their wedding was extremely intimate and touching even with the dark cloud looming.

ParticipantIt’s Sunday. Anyone else feeling withdrawl? At least the next 5 months will go by faster than that awful winter hiatus filled with doldrums and impending spoilers of doom. GAK! Hope they don’t do that to us again.
I was wondering if there were any particular shows people were looking forward to seeing this summer, to fill the time? I admit to being a HUGE True Blood fan and it was my go to fandom before I got into Once, but the last couple of season have left me as cold as a corpse. Here’s to hoping this final season goes out with a bang and not a whimper. I need my Manganiello and Skarsgard fix (yes, I’m that shallow).
Are there any Outlander fans on this thread? REALLY looking forward to that miniseries too.
Thank you @surayya! This should be posted regularly. HEHEHEHE!
@Bo-Peeps I wasn’t a huge fan of Frozen the first time I saw it with my kids. Personally, I was expecting the same Disney cookie-cutter movie with a princess, a prince who is her true love and the evil witch that they must defeat. Boy, was I wrong! I don’t think A and E will be allowed to reimagine with the Frozen story I a negative way; if they mess up they’d have to answer to Disney, the very vocal fans and their own kids who love the movie.

ParticipantSwanFire could never have realistically got back together romantically. Whilst Neal did have a reason for leaving Emma, Emma didn’t know that and nursed that betrayal for at least 10 years. Someone doesn’t just get over that. SwanFire were beginning to develop a friendship with each other for Henry and I thought that was a really positive message they were sending to children of divorce: Your parents may not be together but they still both love you and want to see you. So in that respect it’s a real shame they killed Neal off.
I wish Tamara had been the genuine article, they could’ve had Neal marry her and written him out that way, perhaps moving to Manhattan then whenever Henry isn’t required he can be “visiting Neal” rather than just disappearing or being dumped on side characters.
Neverland was a wasted opportunity. We could’ve got the backstory of Neal’s and Hook’s time in Neverland in the past but we didn’t. There are still many unanswered questions about Neverland.

ParticipantOkay, usually when I say “lol”, I don’t literally laugh out loud. That line about Neal being a lukewarm tater tot, however, completely cracked me up. Of course I felt a little bad about it, but…yeah.
Also, on that same subject…I don’t understand the “you just like him because he’s hot” argument at all. Judging by the pictures, comments, etc., lots of the SF shippers seem to find Neal quite attractive as well. I mean, not everyone finds the exact same people attractive, “eye of the beholder” and all that.

ParticipantThe “you just like him because he’s hot” argument is based on the trope “Draco in leather pants”
