ParticipantThanks for the links to the interviews! They were a lot of fun. I’ve been hoping they do try to show them trying to have an actual date, Storybrooke style…
Knowing that Killian was brought as a gentleman and a lieutenant, I wouldn’t be surprised if he showed up at Emma’s apartment with flowers. I’m counting on it. I think she’ll find that her definition of dating and his definition are worlds apart. I can see him being more courtly in the way he approaches Emma and that’s not something she’s used to. So I can see why it might scare her at first.
This is exactly what I’m hoping for! Trying to navigate a relationship, with each of their own baggage plus the fact that they are literally from two different worlds…the perfect setting for both angsty CS and funny CS moments.

ParticipantI’m going to rain on everyone’s parade and say their ‘date’ will be a drink at Granny’s. I’m not sure they’ll go in for anything more fancy. I hope I’m wrong 🙂 Actually are there any other restaurants in SB aside from Granny’s?

ParticipantLittle bit off topic, but really love this meta on the whole Milah/Rumple relationship with ties to Killian & Bae (I know we’ve discussed Milah a few times & this brings up/ points out, things about her & that whole Rumple/Milah/Killian situation, that I think even we’ve missed in our discussions lol). Although I dont agree with absolutely every point made, over all it is thought provoking & I find myself agreeing with the vast majority of what is written 🙂

Interesting article…it did help me resolve some of my issues with Milah. I don’t know why, I just can’t take to her like I can with other characters – even ones you’re not supposed to like. I accept Hook and Milah had True Love because that’s what the story says, but for some reason I don’t find it as believable as others – and I’m not necessarily looking at their relationship through CS glasses because although Emma & Hook are amazing, I can see the obvious chemistry Hook has with other characters – TinkerHook is my favorite ‘crackship’ afterall! (That scene in NL? Holy cow!)

I agree. Granny’s seems to be the go to place for dates.

I think it’s hard to see Milah and Killian as TL, b/c we never actually see them together apart from those couple scenes – in the pub and then with the confrontation with Dark One. We didn’t see them together on adventures, we didn’t see how Killian cared for her and vice versa just in general life – we can assume with such a passionate need for revenge Hook had a deep deep love for her. But we only have Hook’s word for it. He didn’t interact with Milah the way he did with Tink or Emma, and even Belle. He got really flirty and up close and personal with those women (even a flirty moment with Cora) where we didn’t see him do that with Milah. But to be honest given a chance Hook would have chemistry with a wooden plank.
One thing that always intrigues me about Milah and Killian (and I’m sure this has been pointed out before) is that Milah always seemed quite a bit older than Killian. And the age gap may have been unintentional on the writers’ behalf, but you don’t really see that kind of dynamic between love interests on TV – the older woman in love with the younger man. Unless it’s some sort of flirty toy-boy scenario, but a serious relationship seems rare to me. So it wasn’t some youthful thing that caught the dashing pirate. A pirate who could have had his pick of anyone. It was the the older, probably wiser, life experienced woman he fell in love with. I find that quite refreshing.

Participant@ellemo78, you make some really good points. In some ways, I wish we could see more of Milah & Hook’s relationship. I wonder if we might in S4, because it obviously has profound effect on who Hook is and has been for 300 years. We have a decent amount of context regarding Emma and Neal’s relationship but Hook and Milah’s can be reduced to minutes over the course of 3 seasons. On, the other hand, I’m more than happy to go without Hook/Milah scenes for CS scenes! You know, in the interest of time. haha.

I think they have, like, 1 or 2 other places they could go…but Granny’s probably will be where they end up (oh, how romantic….yeah…) But even that I would love, because how hilarious — EVERYONE is going to know what’s going on – I can just see the entire town showing up, purely by chance…and not at all to see what it looks like when the Savior and the Pirate try to get romantic-like. I just really don’t want a traditional date – I want to be laughing my way through it, for some reason!

ParticipantI might said this before but I think if we see Milah again, it won’t be in relation to Captain Swan but something related to Rumbelle. I think as far as Killian and Milah’s love story is concerned, that story is done.
Adam and Eddy to give us a reason why Hook hated Rumple (ergo why Milah is really a plot device character). So the reason they hated each other was because of a woman.
And in some regards, Neal was a plot device character as well. Adam and Eddy needed to explain why Emma has walls and Neal was the reason. I don’t think the reason why Neal was introduced was to be a love interest for Emma. It was just to contrast these two relationships and show us why Emma is the way she is.
I think we all know the character of Neal was never really developed outside of his relationships with Emma and Rumple. A vast majority of his character was about his relationship with Rumple.
Now if Adam and Eddy had stuck with their plan to make Bar and Neal two desperate characters, it would be a different story but they didn’t.

I think the main problem with Milah is that the first time we see her, she is being particularly horrible to Spinner Rumple. The audience has gotten to know Rumple throughout season 1, we saw how he was treated in Desperate Souls and to see his own wife treat him like that instantly put Milah on a lot of disliked lists. Spinner Rumple is a very pitiful character to the point that you just want to give him a hug and tell him things will be okay.
The audience also has a greater insight into Rumple’s motivation such as his father issues and his abandonment issues. Rumple’s reluctance to go through the portal with Bae in The Return takes on a whole new level when you have seen Think wonderful thoughts where the same exact scene is almost played out between Malcolm and young Rumple and the things Rumple said to Bae “It’ll tear us apart” take on a whole new meaning.
Hook definitely had a lot of chemistry with Tinkerbell. Also it’s possible that the dislike for Milah also stems from her going against typical values that are ingrained in the audience. IE You shouldn’t cheat on your spouse or abandon your children. Yet we see Milah walk out on Bae and leave Rumple for Hook.
Also I don’t think Rumple had much choice other than to tell Bae that Milah was dead, the truth that Rumple had been led to believe was much more horrifying. Rumple didn’t know Milah left of her own accord (and how exactly could he tell Bae that his mother chose to abandon him?), Rumple had been led to believe that Milah had been kidnapped and was going to be raped by a ship full of pirates. Why on earth would he tell his young son that?
Screwball has an interesting essay on Milah
