ParticipantHook gets a lot of hate from some fans. I saw a review thing that started off reasonably funny but then the person wished Hook would just die which I thought was very extreme considering this episode he didn’t do anything wrong. Also some of the negativity is just depressing and self-centred. I wish people would stop hoping the show would end or is cancelled just because they don’t like it anymore. There is a simple solution to that which wouldn’t ruin it for every other fan that does still enjoy the show- it’s called stop watching!
Amen Price!! I don’t understand a lot of the so-called fans of the show. When I think about the hypocrisy that goes on…it makes me so angry. There’s double-standards everywhere and I realize, no one wants to pick apart bad things their favorite character has done but really, no character on this show is exempt from doing bad things. Even the good guys have made bad choices. (Mary Margaret anyone, Pinocchio?). It’s really infuriating to see fans white wash over character’s actions altogether especially when we’re presented something contrary on screen. And the vehement hate towards characters that get in the way of their ‘ships. Speaking for Outlaw Queen, I mildly ‘ship it but seriously, Maid Marian, traditionally is not an evil person. I could rant on and on but I need to eat dinner now. I get to watch 4×02 tomorrow and I already have a meta idea in mind.
I definitely agree with those sentiments…I mean, I’ve heard of “hate-watching” and all, but it’s weird seeing so many people rather obsessed with a show but wanting so badly for it to end. And yeah, no one on the show is perfect. And the people who most often go on anti-Hook tirades are, of course, the ones who ship Emma with someone else. For example, I find it hilarious to see people who want to see Emma with Regina talking about how terrible Hook is. I mean, seriously? Let’s think about this for a second. If Regina were a male character, I highly doubt anyone would be defending her. Why are murder, rape, and child abuse totally forgivable crimes if a woman is the one committing them?
I also bristle at the implication that Emma is too stupid or naive to “see Hook for what he is”. She is very clearly neither of those things, nor is she afraid to tell a guy to bleep off if she doesn’t want him around–look how she reacted when he kissed her in 311 when she had no idea who he was–like mother, like daughter. 😉

Absolutely! I always think of it the other way as well. If Hook was a woman, would he be garnering as much as hate as he does. Ignore the romantic element (well actually you don’t have to) but if everything Hook did over season 3 in terms of their friendship – encouraging her, standing by her, helping her family, etc – if that was all done by Mulan for example there would not be all the backlash about her being all stalkery or only doing it to get into Emma’s pants. I find that Hook gets a lot of flack just b/c he’s a bloke, which makes absolutely no sense at all.

ParticipantOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Interesting ….. I wonder if this is what the Hook “blackmailing” Rumple actually is- a deal to keep quiet about the dagger IF Rumple reattaches his hand…. but something goes wrong- be it on purpose or not with Rumple & thats why he gets his Hook back later…. still 3& 1/2 days to go until 403 …… will have to rewatch 401 & 402 + die of emotion over some of the newest fanvids (will post them here once I track some really good ones down, so everyone can watch 😉 )

Participant@surayya. I hope it’s that way too. I would prefer it was a bribe to keep his silence rather than Hook demanding his hand back. (I wrote a small ficlet along those lines) it also gives Rumple a chance to ‘curse’ the hand if he wants to get up to a little mischief
Edit: sorry stupid autocorrect.

Participant@PriceofMagic Okay, I so love your thought that Regina could possibly be pregnant. I’m not one that would usually like a an out of wedlock baby storyline on a family TV show (I know – call me old fashioned and the whole show is based around Emma being an unwed mother already) but I agree with you that this would make so much sense.
It would give Regina and Snow something additional to bond over in their already growing friendship plus it would explain her baby-related sarcasm in the deleted scene from the last episode. Everyone is wondering WHY they deleted that scene, perhaps they decided the scene focused a bit too much on Snow/Regina baby discussions and they didn’t want to go there quite yet?
It would also give Emma and Regina something additional to bond over. Although Regina is mad at Emma for bringing Marian back – Emma is really the only one in town who can relate to how Regina would be feeling if she is pregnant after Robin “left” her to go back to his wife. Even though the contexts are entirely different they were both in situations were the both believed they were in a loving relationship, then had something completely unexpected happen, then found out they were pregnant and didn’t tell the father. If this IS the case, obviously I think Regina will end up telling Robin and I think a heart to heart with Emma would convince her that is the right thing to do.
Foreshadowing. When Robin told Regina he loves her but he he is going back to Regina he told her he was once a very different man and that he is going back to Marian because he lives by a code. First, we have no idea what kind of person HE used to be and we have no idea why he and Marian are actually together. I have actually started to wonder if he really ever loved Marian but maybe was not the greatest person and got her pregnant but finding out he was going to be a father made him change and decide to “do the right thing” and marry her and learned to love her (but not in a true love way). Or, Roland really isn’t his biological child and we will find out he killed his father when he was not a great person and out of guilt married Marian before Roland was born.
But the other foreshadowing issue is that since he said he is a man with a code, if Regina is pregnant there is NO WAY he is not going back to her even with Marian back. Regina is his true love and if he finds out she is pregnant it will complicate things but Marian was “dead” to him for years – Regina is here right now.
It definitely would explain her behavior and her desire to be alone to try to figure out what she is going to do.
And on a personal note it would explain her reduced filming schedule and it seems like they have been filming her sitting a lot more lately than they usually do. I haven’t really paid any attention to whether she looks pregnant or not but if she is early she might just be having bad morning sickness or something and need to slow down a bit. I don’t really like to speculate on their private lives but since we just went through this with Ginny it kind of makes we wonder.

ParticipantThis should lift the spirits of those still here
& since the singer also ships CS in real life, it gets even more points
Aw, another one with that song! The first one you posted with that song totally made me fall in love with it and I immediately bought it from iTunes. 🙂 And then I saw that on Tumblr too, someone mentioned that she ships CS. How much fun is that?!
Just wanted to let you all know how much I love, love, love to read what you all have to say. I think my mind is still blown away by how wonderful those episodes were.
I love reading what everyone’s thoughts are too! You should post more often too–just roll your eyes at the haters and then come here to vent about them; that seems to be a popular activity in this thread. 😉
And then of course there’s been quite a bit to celebrate here recently too…I don’t know how long it will last, so I guess we have to enjoy it while we can, haha.

It is double standards. For example, the whole Regina/Graham relationship was Graham being Regina’s sex slave. Nobody gives Regina that much of a hard time about it. However, if Regina had been a man and Graham a woman, then people would be a lot more critical about it. Whether it has anything to do with the perception that women are the weaker sex, men are more threatening etc, I don’t know but double standards works both ways for men and women positively and negatively.
I do wonder why Hook gets the sheer amount of hate he does as a character. I get not shipping CS, to each their own, but to hate the actual character with such vengeance seems a bit extreme. I don’t ship OQ but I don’t hate Regina or Robin individually as characters.
I didn’t like Hook in season 2 but that was to do with his actions towards Belle rather than his actual character. I liked him in Tallahassee.
Season 3 was good for Hook especially 3B. I don’t get where the “rape culture” comments come from. Compared to Charming’s “Don’t you worry your pretty little head about it” attitude to pregnant Snow, Hook’s attitude towards Emma was pretty much “you go girl!”.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Interesting ….. I hope the “blackmail” is an actual deal or bribe to keep quiet rather than actual blackmail. If Hook makes this an ongoing thing rather than a one off then that puts him equally in the wrong as Rumple
All magic comes with a price!

ParticipantThe funny thing about the haters, as someone pointed out on the CS podcast is that the haters can’t seem to decide what kind of person Hook should be. Haters hated him when he was the villain (although, an incredibly lousy villain when compared to Regina and Rumple) but now, that he’s a hero, they hate still hate him. Even though he’s the hero.
I think what it all comes down to is who Hook is currently with: Emma.
And the amount of hate Jen gets on twitter on a daily basis for ‘shipping CS and being happy for her character, is truly disgusting.
I’ll take the tea incident because that’s the most recent as well as the most ridiculous fight ever. People were getting upset on twitter because Jen made a comment that she wanted to buy a Captain Swan flavored tea. I’m like, really? You’re getting bent out of shape over a tea blend? On a site where you can make your own tea blend?
One of the nastier comments I read was that someone hoped Hook would give Emma an STD. You don’t make snide or joking remarks like that, even when it’s about a fictional character. It’s really poor taste.
