it was beautiful to watch what Morrison and O’Donoghue were doing in the background—the way his hand never left her back or her shoulder, the way she leaned into him, the attentive way he looked at her. In those small details, we were able to see just how much Emma was opening herself up to being vulnerable with him and how much Hook treasured the moments she was giving him to show her how much he loves her. Perhaps the sweetest little detail was when the camera lingered on their hands, and we saw Emma move to intertwine her fingers with Hook’s—initiating a new level of intimacy yet again. In that one small gesture, she reassured him that she wasn’t going anywhere, and she silently asked him not to go anywhere, either. It was another way for her to show she wasn’t going to push him away anymore; she was holding on tighter than ever. Emma shows her feelings in actions rather than words, and this action was so small but so monumental for a woman who still isn’t used to the kind of intimacy that she’s diving into with hi

So I knew there were visual parallels around the scenes with Snowing and family with baby Neal in the hospital and Emma in the apartment but I just recognized a bunch more to them.
With the baby scene – David had just rescued his son, Baby Neal, from Zelena and had placed the baby into Snow’s relieved arms after fearing that she had lost yet another child to an evil villain who enacted an curse in order that was related to the fact that she had a sister. In the scene with Emma, David had just rescued his daughter, grown up Emma, from Elsa and literally placed her into Killian’s relieved arms after fearing that he had lost yet another woman he loved to an evil villain because she couldn’t control her magic without her anchor (Anna, like Gold could never control his magic until he found Belle). Of course they discover that Elsa isn’t really evil, she is just misunderstood and didn’t mean to hurt Emma but that doesn’t change Killian’s worry.
Moving on to the hospital scene. You have Snow in the bed covered in blankets just like Emma is in the chair covered with blankets. The scene is reversed though. David gives Snow the baby and it is Snowing who are alone in the background snuggling together, David kisses her head, while CS talk in the hallway. But in this scene Killian thanks Emma for saving him and he says she wasn’t sure she would given their history. She tells him she would never let him drown but it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t have her magic back because she is going back to NYC. Emma had still given up on ever finding a home and hadn’t let Killian through her walls yet. Emma and Henry then go in to Snow’s room, we see Snow surrounded by her family and then we see a heart-broken Killian who desparately wants not only to get through Emma’s walls but to be a part of that family – but he isn’t even in the room, he is watching from outside the door. He doesn’t even feel close enough to these people to enter the room.
In the scene in the apartment CS don’t NEED to talk. Emma is surrounded by her family but the main point of contact is made clear to the audience to be CS. Killian gets the space heater, Emma is surrounded by her family but Killian is clearly the one in charge of getting her warm. He is the one that she does NOT want to leave her side after what she has just been through. In the hospital Killian didn’t feel worthy to even enter Snow’s room, now he actually carried Emma home (like David carried Baby Neal home) – he is now in the role of protector and he takes his job very seriously, no one even questions it. Not even Emma. He literally broke through her walls this time around. He tried to cut through them himself and when that didn’t work he reached for her through the hole in the ice and then pulled her through. Emma has already decided that SB is home. And in this scene in the background while everyone talks it is CS who are cuddling and Killian who kisses the top of her head. And when Charming makes the comment about how this family really doesn’t like to give up on each other – it is not only to recall what Anna told him when he was younger but it is also a direct response to what Killian told him when he said he wasn’t giving up on getting Emma out if the cave alive. So Charming just included Killian as a member of the family – while Emma and Killian were still cuddling and Killian was still looking at it as his responsibility to take care if her, to warm her up. Killian was no longer standing outside the door looking into their world – he is now considered a member of the family.
Another interesting parallel is that Snow walks into the whole scene at the very end with Baby Neal. (I actually have my own theory as why that really happened – did anyone notice only Elsa, David, and Emma heard the beating heart right before Snow walked in? And remember that David and Snow share a heart.). At the end of the other episode Emma walks into the hospital room with Henry. Although contexts are different, visually and figuratively they are exact same.
The best part to me was the whole deal with Charming literally placing Emma in Killian’s arms. It was sweet but kind of strange at the same time. Like, why didn’t they just have Emma rush to Killian to make the point or Killian run INTO the cave to get her. Or even just have Emma fall into Killian’s arms and Charming give Killian the Bro nod that he approves. The only thing I can come up with is that it is meant to parallel the other episode with an obviously deeper meaning of “Here, I’m giving her to you because I trust you with her and I know how much she means to you.” I mean in both circumstances Charming was obviously extremely worried about each of his children but he immediately delivers them to the people who he recognizes are worried MORE – Snow and now Killian. And I believe he understands why he needs to give Emma to Killian because I think he sees the kind of love he has with Snow in Killian and Emma’s relationship. And he knows how he would feel if it was Snow who had been trapped in that cave.

ParticipantHappy OUAT Day everyone!! Just a few more hours!
I’m trying to catch up on the last few pages, it’s been a busy week — I’m looking forward to seeing Hook and Rumple’s interaction. I agree with those who said, essentially, Rumple is his own worst enemy. I really don’t think there’s anything anyone – not just Hook – can do that’s worse and more threatening to RumBelle than Rumple himself. Relationships are built on trust – Belle understands that and trusts Rumple (at times, to a fault) but Rumple still hasn’t learned that very basic lesson. I’m guessing that’s a big part of what they have coming up for the RumBelle storyline this season. I think it would be interesting if they have Rumple bond with Henry, and because of Rumple’s relationship with Henry, and Hook’s relationship with Emma/Henry, they find themselves working on the same side – much to their chagrin, initially. So I think while some of their story might include Hook finding out about the dagger and using it as blackmail or whatnot, the core of their story is going to be that they each have to put their past animosity toward each other in the past, in order to preserve the happiness they have in the present.
In regard to Hook being killed off or Colin leaving – not even a hint of concern for me – it’s not happening. As mentioned, A&E have been vocal about wanting Hook – not just Peter Pan, but Hook specifically – in S1 but were still working on obtaining the rights. Although it might not seem it if you listen to the anti-Hook/CSers, CS is a very popular ship with the general audience – and ultimately, it doesn’t matter if you watch 500x during the week and obsess (like us?! Nah!) or if you just tune in every Sunday at 8, then don’t give it a thought – every set of eyeballs count to the network, and many of those eyeballs enjoy our pirate and ‘ship. Neal/MRJ is completely different than Hook/Colin. I do also believe that whatever plans they had for Neal/MRJ, it just didn’t come together, for whatever reason. This left MRJ with very little screentime, while giving him enough exposure to get others interesting in having him in other projects – which he couldn’t commit to because of OUAT. The History channel project sounds very interesting (they’ve been putting out some great scripted programming in the last few years) and he’s got a bunch of other projects he’s working on and coming up. So really, it wasn’t worth it for him to stay in a role that gave him little screentime and wasn’t living up to expectations.

Agreed. It’s also why I find the stupid petitions to bring back Neal to be horribly selfish… MRJ was getting sweet stuff all screen time, he was a background & plot device character from the start plain & simple (we got ZERO, Zilch, Zip, Naught, Nil, Nada backstory on Neal at all outside of Emma), so why on earth would he want to come back to once ‘full time’. It’s been made clear SF wasnt going to happen- Neal’s death didnt change that, Emma moving on from him thanks to her cursed memories changed that, Neal’s death only allowed Emma to let someone else that she has strong feelings for, in faster, since she didnt have a constant walking minder of how damaging letting someone in can be emotionally. I dont understand why his fans arent happy for him getting what essentially every actor wants- leading roll situation on a show & a regular healthy sized paycheck to put in the bank! I’m glad he’s got better employment- not for myself, but for him, being an actor/tress isnt exactly a profession with a regular income & if he stayed committed to Once, he was committing himself to a pittance (which was likely to turn back into guest star anyway) compared to what he could potentially be getting on another show, esp as a/the lead.
