Can we talk about how Killian is so worried that freaking out on Will may have done damage between them? And how she so quickly rubs her hands down his ams and into his hands and reassure him that it’s okay? Because this killed me.
This means she knows how hard he’s trying for her. She KNOWS who Killian is. She knows who he was, and she KNOWS how he’s changed. She expects there to be rough patches and times where Killian struggles more than others, but she’s okay with that. Because she knows where his heart is. It’s with her, and it’s with what’s best for her. She knows how damaged she was and how she is struggling with things herself. Why would she expect her pirate to be any different? This is new for both of them, and they are both trying to be the best they can be for one another.
Whether or not that hand was cursed or not, Killian’s heart is still in the same place. With Emma. For Emma. She knows that. He wanted the hand off because he THOUGHT it could ruin all the progress he’s made. Whether a mind game by Rumple or an actual curse, it scared him. His past scares him. He’s finally so close to everything he’s dreamed about for so long. He’s finally close to having someone again. A light in his life. A guide. Love. Someone who reassures him who he is. He can’t dare lose that.
But some scars are deeper than others, some take more time to heal. And when someone like the Dark One is trying so hard to make you break, it takes everything you have to try to stay the man you KNOW you are. And by going to Rumple in the first place, while it was a mistake, he’s now in a rough situation and has to do everything he can to get the best outcome from it possible. If he was the same man, he wouldn’t care. He would go after Belle. He wouldn’t care who got hurt in the process. All he would care about is taking down his crocodile. But that is simply not the case. He IS a changed man, and the most important thing in his life right now is Emma. If to him that means playing puppet to Rumple right now, that’s what he’s gonna do.
Yep, it’s gonna kill us all seeing Killian have to cancel plans with Emma, tell her he can’t come over tonight, tell her he can’t go to lunch, all because Rumple is calling the shots, but it won’t last forever, and it’s gonna make them grow stronger. You see how much she’s into him. I think all of the server problems aren’t helping matters when it comes to people drifting from the site. Every time I’ve gone on the past few days, I’ve gotten through a few pages and then get errors and can’t get on. It’s frustrating. I think it might also still be doing a lot of background indexing work, but it’s slowed down considerably in the past few months, which makes posting and making sure the post shows right a pain. I end up opening a 2nd tab to check out other sites while I’m waiting…
In regard to the episode, I loved it. I loved how much was contained in the episode. The one when Emma was trapped in the cave seemed a little slow to me, I like episodes like this when it’s like virtual whiplash because so much is going on! haha.
I loved the date, but I thought the Hook/Rumple interactions were perfect. I love how the two play off of each other. And Rumple’s mindgames were great. I love our pirate but he should know better than play like he did with Rumple. Rumple is the King of Mind Games, he’s going to win. Especially when backed into a corner, and especially when it comes to Belle. Personally, I like Rumple best when he’s teetering on this edge, so I’m loving him this season. I admit I’m not as invested in his love story as I am about his relationship/addiction with magic.
I think my favorite part of the episode, though, was – to my surprise – Snow. She seems to finally be successfully marrying Mary Margaret-the friend with Snow White-the mom when it comes to Emma. She was such the excited Mommy before her daughter’s first date and so the excited friend who wanted all the details when Emma got home – and most importantly, she seems to actually be listening to Emma, and seeing for herself how good Killian and Emma are for each other, and showing enthusiastic support. Emma cannot be backed into a corner, and Snow finally seems to be understanding that – and supporting rather than projecting, which is of utmost importance if she’s going to have any kind of relationship with Emma. David’s ‘dad’ routine is precious, and I love how Killian just gave him an indulgent smile, letting David have his Daddy moments when he picked Emma up.
Is anyone else as confused as I am to whether Rumple actually *did* curse the hand or not? Before the episode I was happy for it to be a mind game, but seeing what Killian did and how upset he was with what he did and just how deep in dept he’s got himself in with Rumple now I want the hand to have been cursed. I bow to you, master manipulator Mr Stiltskin. I think he was at his Machiavellian best in this ep. Although Anna was exceptionally lucky to get the better of him. Wouldn’t be interesting if Hook got his hands on the dagger? 😀
I have had a passing thought, that if Hook tells Emma about his dealings with Rumple, could Hook sort of act as spy? Not that the Charmings need to spy on Rumple, but it would be handy to know what he’s up to esp in regard to the Snow Queen, and with Hook in ‘business’ with Rumple there’s a ready made mole.

One of the girls on the Captain Swan podcast said awhile back that they didn’t want Snow to be Team Captain Hook by default and after watching the episode last night, I kinda feel the same way.
Don’t get me wrong, I want Snow to like Hook; I do but she was this way with Neal too without even bothering to get to know him or even have a conversation with him.
Charming at least has had many chances to get to know Hook through them working together (Good Form, White Out), and realize, underneath all that leather and guyliner, there’s a gentleman and a hero. Hook is more complex than your average pirate.
I want Snow to actively make an effort to get to know Hook and come to genuinely like him. I hope Adam and Eddy make a conscious effort to show Snow taking an interest in Hook (not romantically of course) but as a friend.
I do think now after watching the episode that Snow is Team Happiness for Emma and it doesn’t really matter who Emma is with as long as she’s happy; which is a good stance to take. I ‘ship Emma with happiness too but I want more than that from Snow. Hook needs to be accepted and cared about by all of the Charming family.

I’m here!!! Just had a baby so I have reverted back to lurking for a bit. I also couldn’t get onto the forum for awhile because it was just gibberish whenever I clicked onto a thread but that seems to be resolved now.
I am loving this season so far!
This episode wasn’t what I was expecting but I thought it was very good. I thought the Charmings pre/post date were perfect. I was happy to see that Snow is still into experiencing these firsts with Emma even though they have another child now. I do hope Snow gets to spend more time with Killian like Charming has.
So what is the consensus on the hand? Was it actually cursed and Rumple is playing mind games telling him it wasn’t so Hook thinks he hasn’t changed deep down? Or is Hook still having these pirate-y urges that he is apparently suppressing? I think Rumple is messing with his mind and he did curse the hand but that might just be my optimism/Hook favoritism.
Hook blackmailing Rumple is obviously not nice but his intentions are a lot more honorable than Rumple. I think its a pretty stark contrast that Hook blackmailed Rumple to do things for Emma while Rumple is blackmailing Hook in order to increases his magic powers behind Belle’s back. Power is still more important to Rumple than love is. I wonder if he will be the big bad for 4B.
Hook and Emma’s date was super cute. I loved that she let Will run off and prioritized her date. I hope though that Hook doesn’t keep his interactions with Rumple a secret for long. I think this is a good test for their relationship so I hope they pass :P. I think Emma would understand his actions up to this point but if he continues to do bad things for Rumple because of the blackmail it will be harder and harder for her to give him a pass. He needs to be able to trust her with the truth.

Rumple is such a — jerk is being too polite. Hook blackmailed Rumple but what he’s doing now to Hook is far worse. Rumple is basically playing mind games with Hook and seriously, that is messed up.
I guess I dont mind the Blackmailing… Rumple CUT OFF Killian’s hand for taking up with Milah – who LEFT Rumple. Killian didnt steal her. She was just counting her lucky stars that she found a hot pirate to leave with… but she was leaving by any means or man necessary make no mistake about it. Whether she was right or wrong, that was on her.
The looks on poor Killian’s face through the whole episode was so sad.
There really isn’t anything about Rumple’s character at this point that I feel sorry for. I mean, how many times is going to swap the knife before he gets caught?
I liked Rumple and as one person called him ‘IMP’ Rumple… but I thought that he was overcoming the dagger / DO’s power to be a better man. But 4A so far is proving that he doesnt have the strength, fortitude or desire to really do that. He is all talk and no action when it comes to being a better man for Belle and Bae’s memory.
If he loses Belle, then so be it. Seriously. Belle deserves much better than Rumple, who seems to love power more than her. That is not the kind of man she deserves.
Belle deserves what she gets. Fool me once shame on you, Fool me for the 500th time shame on me. Not sure how big the speck of good inside of him is but she must have some giant magnifying glass at the library to see it. A&E have Belle as Rumple’s Trophy Wife and for a character that is supposed to be so smart they make her so ignorant. I cant feel bad for her or Rumple anymore.
I do feel bad for our Poor Pirate… the man is digging himself a deep hole. I so hope he goes to Charming for help to work this out. I fear he is going to be living a double life and it will eat at him and hurt Captain Swan when Emma finds out.

Yes – I love the Polaroid camera! and David thinking he might have been too hard on him. lol. David was a push over. I’m sure there are worse Daddy / Date stories.
Robert Carlyle, in his very affectionately spoiler-be-darned Carlyle-ish manner, has said that things get very bad for Rumple in 4-09 and 4-10. Whether it is Belle who finally realizes on her own that she has been played as the ultimate fool, Hook tells her, or whether (as I hope) Hook gets to blow Gold out of the water on his own…that would certainly constitute *very bad* for Rumple. I would imagine Rumple’s past history with Ms. Dairy Queen De-lite is going to chap his behind as well.
