ParticipantI was waiting all day for this thread to move so I could post the meta I wrote for last Sunday’s episode of Once.
Here’s a small teaser:
I’d like to start with Emma here. I think it’s important that she was the one to ask Hook out on a date and not the other way around.
So much of the relationship she has with Hook, even before she accepted her feelings for him in the season three finale, was about Hook giving her the ability to choose what they become. He told her in Dark Hollow that he was not going to force himself on her that, that he was going to wait for her to choose, wait for her to the make the first move.
That’s how much he loves, respects and adores Emma that and at the beginning of the episode, it was Emma who chose to walk into Granny’s with one objective in mind: to ask out her pirate on a date because she genuinely wanted to get to know him.

ParticipantI too loved how Emma put Killian 1st on their date, it was a lovely role reversal for them
Yes. Loved how she ticked off her list of why she can sit and enjoy herself and their date. Old Emma would have hauled ass with just a ‘got to go.’
I also LOVED how it was Emma who closed the distance between them in the sheriffs office, by being the one to step into Killian’s personal space, that to me was probably the most understated show of character development I’ve seen for her yet. I mean, that was a huge step for Emma, to be the one instigating that closeness/lack of distance between them for a second time (1st being when she closed the distance between them outside Snowing’s 😉 ), but this time in public- in full view of Will, Elsa & Charming- That wall she built to keep people out, Killian is now totally inside it now 😀 <3

ParticipantRobert Carlyle, in his very affectionately spoiler-be-darned Carlyle-ish manner, has said that things get very bad for Rumple in 4-09 and 4-10. Whether it is Belle who finally realizes on her own that she has been played as the ultimate fool, Hook tells her, or whether (as I hope) Hook gets to blow Gold out of the water on his own…that would certainly constitute *very bad* for Rumple. I would imagine Rumple’s past history with Ms. Dairy Queen De-lite is going to chap his behind as well.
Congrats on the new family member, Lumee!!
Oh, which interview was that?
I’ve only seen this one http://www.zap2it.com/blogs/once_upon_a_time_rumpelstiltskin_is_still_the_dark_one_and_storybrooke_should_stop_forgetting_it-2014-10
On a side note- I LOVE how almost Everyone is calling Killian, Killian for that episode 😉
Oh & Yes, I’m all for Killy getting one over on the DO & exposing what he’s up to as well.October 22, 2014 at 11:46 pm #287017surayya
ParticipantYes – loved the scenes with the 2 of them and i liked that it showed that they did not really forgive and forgot their history. Just seemed more realistic. I found it plausible that Hook gave up revenge for Emma but not that he totally forgot about his history with Rumple.
I doubt he could forget given his ‘very second of the day’ reminder, to me it should in theory be harder for Killian to give up his hatred of DO, given DO murdered his 1st love & maimed him, that’s some dark acts right there … Rumple on the other hand, was made to feel humiliated for not standing up for his wife- which he later finds out she wanted to go with Killian, so hating Killian for having being brave/ having a back bone (he did after all not only accept DO’s challenge, he fully expected to die in order to protect Milah from Rumple), but for having his ex-wife’s love (when it was Rumple himself who drove her away in the 1st place) & making him look bad in a village who already thought him a deserter & coward who had brought shame on his family & had few if any friends to speak of as a result, is a bit of a stretch for me to sympathize with sometimes. But I admit, I shake my head & just go with it because its A&E tale to tell 😉

ParticipantI’m not convinced Rumple broke more than one deal. The deal for the bean was to let Milah and Killian go – actually thinking about it, did Rumple agree to those terms? I have a sneaky suspicion he didn’t. He said he wanted to see the bean first, they showed him, Milah asked if they had a deal and Rumple went on a tangent about Milah leaving Bae. So I guess in Rumple’s mind there probably wasn’t technically a deal to break. It’s all a bit eye-for-eye with Rumple and Hook, trying to one-up each other. Hook went too far with using his knowledge of the dagger to his advantage. Yes it worked the first time in regards to the finding who the magic belonged too. That is one deal, Hook’s silence for Rumple’s help. Using the threat of calling out Rumple to Belle wasn’t going to work again, and Hook should have known that. When he asked for his hand I thought he had something different to offer, but no he was silly enough to use the same information. I love Hook but he wasn’t very bright, but in words of Buffy ‘Love makes you do the wacky.’ However he didn’t have anything else to bargain with and I would guess in Hook’s mind Rumple was never going to hand over the hand if he just asked for it.
Yeah, I guess you are right- Rumple pretty much twists things to suit himself no matter what the situation, so I guess at the end of the day it comes down to what Rumple/DO thinks is true.
I do agree it was a long shot gamble that Killian shouldnt have pushed, but he as you also say, he didnt have anything else, nor would Rumple simply ‘hand’ over his hand (that’s bad I know, but I’m feeling goofy so there it is lol 😉 )- I mean he’s been hunting the crocodile for 300 odd years, he should have known it wouldnt end well for him- but yeah, agreed ‘Love makes you do some weird & silly things sometimes’ & also plot 😉
I wont complain to much about him making that deal though- I LOVED Killian with 2 hands- I honestly didnt miss the hook at all, Colin play’s Hook/Killian so well, that he screams pirate even in his new getup 🙂 *trails off into thoughts of CS hand holding…* <3October 23, 2014 at 12:02 am #287024surayya
ParticipantThis is my thought as well. I am starting to feel sorry for Belle (which is a miracle for me). She’s still continuing to see the good in him, but that deception is just so evil. Regardless of the fact that Hook ‘blackmailed’ Rumple first. All Hook was going to do was tell Belle about the dagger. That’s it. It was Rumple’s own doing that gave Hook that ammunition. By contrast Rumple has made a man trying to better himself fall back onto doubts and self-loathing; made him into his lackey; framed him with the video tape, all because Hook wanted two hands so he could hold Emma. That is truly evil (and I love Rumple for it!), but of course all I see is ‘but Hook was blackmailing Rumple, Hook deserved what he got’. I’m not sure he deserved that. His little sad face at the end was just heartbreaking. On top of that not only does Hook ‘owe’ Rumple, he also owes Will for not dobbing him into Emma. I was hoping that Will and Hook could have a bro-ship, I think they’d work well together. They even have the same catchphrase
You can have a gold star & a hookie cookie for this post, I love it 🙂
Yes, for me to comes down to intentions & the reasons behind both of their actions- like I’ve already said, I wish Killian hadnt of pushed the envelope with Rumple, but he didnt really have much of a choice if he wanted his hand back & at least he wasnt doing so for his own selfish means, he was think of the Emma’s desires. Rumple did & is doing what he is out of hared, greed, selfishness & spite, he’s not seeking to please anyone but himself & it’s just not cool.October 23, 2014 at 12:11 am #287027ellemo78

I liked it very much! Especially the correlation between him wanting to rid himself of the hand that he saw trying to ruin all his good progress and punching himself out. He really doesn’t like who he was. I’ve always thought that Liam would be ashamed of what he became, but Killian fell so far he couldn’t stop himself.
If one is to engage with the primordial forces of darkness, one must expect a little social awkwardness

I really enjoyed that obisgirl- especially the parts about how JMo said Emma’s clothes reflect her emotional state & how Emma has changed & grown 🙂 I also love how you note how Killian see’s his hook, what that means to him & how he relates that to Emma, it was very nicely written 🙂
I think for me what stands out in stark contrast is how unguarded Emma was in 404, compared to how we’ve seen Emma since S1 & her pink dress perfectly reflects that IMO…. after all young Emma was wearing flowing, floral dresses when she was thieving with Neal & that was the last time in her life that was unguarded around a man she loved/had feelings for.
The funny thing is, as she has fully accepted her feelings & lower guard with Killian, it seems to have allowed her let her parents in more too. I’m thinking back to when she let Regina’s comment about needing back up, get to her & she bushed off David, until he pushed her to open up to him, then Emma drops her walls & lowers her guard totally by letting Killian know exactly why she keeps pulling away from him – she’s terrified of loosing him & the next time we see Emma & Snowing interact, Emma still has her guard down to zero with them too, by asking for their opinions on how she looks & enjoying their pleasure at seeing her off on her 1st big date- she isnt holding her cards so tightly or closely anymore 🙂
On a side note- WOW 2 pages of discussion ….. LOVING THIS GUYS!!! 🙂 😀 <3

ParticipantSurayya, I’ve read it on Tumblr, Previously TV Spoiler thread and specifically:
From Hollywood Reporter: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/once-a-time-season-4-735441How much trouble is Mr. Gold in? “Belle hasn’t heard any of [Mr. Gold’s] secrets at all,” Robert Carlyle says, referring to beginning his marriage to Belle with a lie. Carlyle hints that though things may seem perfect between the newlyweds at the start of the season, “it’s going to be bad at the end of episodes nine and 10 for Rumple.”
🙂 Gotta love Carlyle
