Keeper of: Hook's eyebrow action, Emma's eye-rolls, David's sarcasm, Snow's "She's kind of out of town" to Tiny, and Rumple's "Not telling."
Thanks Obisgirl! I knew those scenes resonated with me as a parallel for some reason but I never realized JUST how closely the two scenes were related other than Charming/Hook *choosing* Snow/Emma! The language parallels are HUGE in this show! (Still waiting for more Snowing ones like the “trying to stay away from you” stuff which resulted in a huge MM/David kiss! – presumably will happen if Hook struggles with his feelings for Emma once Neal is in the picture again.) Plus it’s the whole obligation vs heart thing that David struggled with – I’d be shocked if Emma doesn’t struggle with anything relating to this emotional upheaval of her 17 year old self’s wishes & dreams, and the woman she is today and her bond with Hook. (I don’t think it can ever be as simple as “Neal’s alive! I’m in love! Cya Hook! We’ll be best friends!”)
I’m more cautiously optimistic now than I have been in awhile that CS is the real deal and was always intended to be. Pirate Emma Swan sketch? Pirate & Knight in Emma’s nursery? Ship’s wheel / ships / Snowing castle being surrounded by water? These little things add up! Not to mention that Hook was always supposed to be around from the start and they even considered changing who Henry’s dad was because people guessed it was Bae. For the first time in a long time, I am letting myself, dare I say it, be hopeful that all these little tiny things along the way add up to something amazing!
Before the forums went down I was wishing to be more torn so I could handle a backup option if I had to (and I’m still mildly in that mindset, even though I won’t be super thrilled unless they do an incredible job of making me actually want Emma and Hook with other people) but I love the show and will go with whatever – I just really think they’ve set up something real and beautiful and epic with CaptainSwan.
Other misc thoughts I’ve been waiting to post here for ages but that 1st parallel from the last post was the most important:
1. Hearts being ripped out & reasons behind it: I know some have recently compared Hook & Regina saying both their loves had their hearts ripped out and that’s why they’re kindred spirits but it’s a completely different situation and Hook’s ordeal is more similarly paralleled to Emma/Graham. (Yes all 3 had hearts ripped out but look at what was involved with it:)
Rumple ripping Milah’s heart out is similar to Regina ripping Graham’s out because it’s an ex-lover that did it after they chose to leave them and be with someone else (Milah with Hook, Graham with Emma). Daniel’s heart being ripped out by Cora was to force Regina to become queen as Cora wanted – different situations and more a pro-CaptainSwan parallel than anything.
It’s a bit more of a stretch (to me), to say that it is equally paralleled for both Emma & Regina to Hook because the circumstances were different even though the methods and deaths were the same: heart ripping out, dying in the arms of someone who loves (or is starting to open up to it in Emma’s case) them. When you look at the actual reasoning behind the heart ripping though, it’s very similar for Milah & Graham’s death – not so much Daniel’s.2. Adam responded to somebody on twitter who said “Only two options on that ship for Regina are Hook or Emma! And Eddie said Emma “truly loves “Neal!” with (Adam:)” that’s make an assumption! If she’s getting a love interest you’re assuming they’re on the ship! Maybe. Maybe not” as well as saying “also just cause someone truly loves someone doesn’t mean they wind up together” which at least gives us the hope that things are a possibility. Just like a lot of CSers have been saying all along – loving someone and being in love with them are 2 different things.
Adam doesn’t destroy anyone’s hopes and makes a point of not answering spoilery things and that he loves all the fans so it all has to be taken with a grain of salt but I love it when he makes distinctions like this. It shows that we’re not delusional in saying that there’s a difference in types of love. They’ve been saying for ages that Emma does love Neal but his comment shows that it’s not impossible to love someone and not be in love with them/meant to be true love forever but perhaps just a meant to be at some point in time (perhaps in the past).
Not to say it rules ANYTHING out, just saying it keeps the door wide open! Otherwise them saying she loves Neal would lead to no point in giving CS any build-up whatsoever, not to mention a triangle. With the the Snowing/Abigail stuff, pretty much everybody hated Abigail (who is now awesome but at the time was just “the nag with the bad attitude” – whereas Hook is well-loved and actually has a LOT of setup to be Emma’s love interest down the line – Abigail had NONE of that and was pretty quickly thrown out because a) we know Snowing would be together and b) David was always drawn to MM, Charming to Snow and it was obvious, just as it is *to some of us* that Emma is drawn to Hook. It’s only made more complicated / less obvious of the outcome *because* she has unresolved issues with Neal and a past, where Charming/Abigail didn’t).
Side note: The PR department has actually been USING OUR SHIPPER NAME to promo stuff. If they continue using it and it’s a diversion or they just don’t know and are going with what’s popular, I’d like to think that H&K would quietly tell them to knock it off and go back to normal stuff. otherwise it’s mean and misleading to ALL fans (pro-CS who are excited, anti-CS who are heartbroken for their ships).
We don’t see hardly any other ship used except TL canon couples like Snowing in promos (I loved their Christmas promos in Season 1!) but I’ve seen the facebook and twitter pages actually using the word CaptainSwan to promote the show recently. These are the same people who gave us Frankenstein and Rumple as the beast in the promos. Usually I hate that they give so much away and other times they’re wrong about everything (ie: Hook being worse than Rumple and “the biggest villain of all time”? but that was his first episode, they didn’t know any better). I’d like to think since they never mentioned that again that H&K saw it and were like oh great….thanks guys.
Kinda like how interviews have steered away for all of the triangle into saying that they want to focus on family or that others are a possibility or something (whereas before each guy would answer “it’s a possibility” to being paired with Emma, and JMO hints at CS but implied that she felt like Emma was done with Neal in Manhattan but is grateful to know why he did all of those things). It’s all up to the writers ultimately and the actors may or may not know some stuff and/or hope for things that don’t turn out that way. Remember when Ginny put her 2 cents in at PaleyFest about why Snowing wouldn’t like even the thought of CaptainSwan and H&K were QUICK to put a lid on that? We must hold out hope!
3. (I posted this on tumblr a bit ago but will add it here as well.) Anton & Emma. Anton has seen humans interact before. Tiny & Tallahassee were showing his own parallel with dealing with humans. He was afraid to trust Emma & Hook because he was betrayed by Jack & Jill. He sees Emma & Hook look out for each other (and Hook offers himself up to be the giant’s target saying he’s “the worst human around” even though the only option is Emma & at this point he’s still bent on revenge…) and even when Emma betrays Hook, she makes sure he’ll be safe and let go in a few hours. Anton saw her ask this of him, just like he has SEEN Jack leave Jill behind to die and they clearly had a different relationship than Emma & Hook do at this point (and Emma/Hook didn’t make an elaborate showing of tricking him into trusting them either).
Anton doesn’t want to trust Emma anymore than Emma wants to trust Hook and now look at them! Anton is greeted with a hug back in SB and is shown that not all humans are as evil as James was (thanks to his niece Emma being awesome and his twin brother Charming being good) and Emma is starting to trust Hook now too, and with the most important thing in her life I might add! (Trusting Regina or Rumple with Henry is one thing because he’s family to them as well…Hook has no such allegiance and Emma doesn’t know much about his history with Neal other than that Neal isn’t too fond of him – yet she still trusts him to help find Henry).
In Tallahassee Anton meets the human (Emma) who will make up for his past betrayals by humans in order to trust them again as he always thought he could. Tallahassee is also where Emma is afraid to trust Hook because of her past with a human (Neal) but wants to and at some point in the future, (really starting with the Season 2 finale), she is finally learning that just like Anton, she was right to trust someone and all of those beautiful relationships started in present-day Tallahassee: Emma/Hook, Emma’s friendship with Anton. Both Emma and Anton are learning that they should trust their instincts and not allow a couple of people in their pasts to destroy them/not allow them to trust anyone ever because there are people out there who can be trusted and they should not be closed-off to it.
4. The pouch thing. Need to find it on tumblr again & I know I’ve mentioned that both Charming & Hook have the pouches, but someone made a gifset of Charming handing the pouch with the gold over to Snow, and Hook handing the pouch with the bean over to Emma. Yay parallels!
5. Hook’s ring: It has a flower & star on it. Emma has a flower tattoo, as well as a star keychain, & Charming’s crest has the same flower on it as well. The clothes that Hook gave Bae to wear had a belt with the same flower too. I think when we learn more about Killian’s family, we’ll find some connection to Charming’s kingdom as the knights etc wear the crest as well. Plus there’s the pirate & the knight statues in Emma’s nursery from way back in the pilot and some have been wanting Killian to be of more noble blood than just a pirate – perhaps his father was an exiled knight or something (300 years ago so long before Snowing took over), and Hook will redeem the family name by joining forces with and protecting (and falling in love with) Emma!
Note: This is not to bash anyone or ignore the reasons behind it, and Emma was vindicated in originally trusting (and thus waiting for 2 years for) Neal’s feelings for her. I’m just pointing out that Tallahassee present-day was specifically the start of Anton learning to trust again (he was always interested in humans and got burned badly by some), and the start of Emma learning to do the same (she blatantly said that she wanted to trust Hook but was too afraid to and we SAW why) as it is her first adventure with Hook and by the end of the season she blindly trusts him to do the right thing (doesn’t even look in the pouch & she totally would have from anybody else outside of her parents).
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has found over the break and restoring our CaptainSwan safe haven! Waiting for Netflix to hurry up and add Season 2 so that I can get good quality screenshots to work on my parallels and various theories but I’ve missed you guys! *passes out cookies*
