So all you SF fans, how do you explain that? I know Emma says that she had never experienced true love before at her wedding…and that is rather damning.
I see no problem with taking Emma at her word. I simply think that we should then take her at her word consistently. During the wedding, she states that she is experiencing something with Hook that is qualitatively different from her previous experiences, and labels that true love. Sure, why not? In fact, I should hope that her feelings for Neal, for her parents, for Henry and for every other important person in her life are each particular and unique forms of love — of course they are, why wouldn’t they be? And all are equally true, lowercase t. But as far as TL as a magical force is concerned (rather than an emotion/feeling/state or what have you) I am simply saying that Emma shares it with Henry, and that’s confirmed beyond doubt. In other words, both things can be true: Emma’s statement of her experience can be an accurate reflection of her experience, AND she does in fact share TL with other people. I don’t necessarily see a contradiction here.
Good lord you interpret anything to try to twist it into what you want. You may as well stick to your head-canons instead of watching the show at this point LOL!
She states in her vows that what she experienced with Hook is TRUE LOVE! Don’t try to make it anything other than what it is.
And furthermore it IS confirmed with Hook. The true love test in the underworld plus the magical flowers as is stated has the power to reunite one with their true love. Emma used it to reunite with Hook so that is two confirmations of true love. Those were “magical forces” even if YOU don’t take it to be that.
It was NEVER confirmed with Neal. Just based off headcanons and Belle’s word of all people. Belle doesn’t know Emma. She can speak for Neal and yeah that means he felt true love for Emma but doesn’t mean it was reciprocated. She loved him but it clearly was not true love as she states she did not feel true love the way her parents did until Killian. That is canon.
You can try to twist them whichever way you want it or say it’s weak but it is completely clear within the narrative that Emma and Killian ARE true love. And no amount of arguing or headcanons you say will be able to say otherwise.
I have no problems admitting Emma loved Neal, key word LOVED! Even in Neverland, she loved Neal. It was never setting up Emma/Neal reuniting. You all should have seen the signs in 3×11 of what they were setting up was CS, not SF. But instead you were too self-absorbed into your stupid headcanons even though it was CRYSTAL clear CS was gonna happen and that Neal was the one dying and you guys were in denial until the freaking episode aired.
Like….maybe yall should focus on the actual show and not those head canons.

Yes, they were magical forces but they both were not indicative of True Love between Hook and Emma. The underworld test would have worked regardless of Hook because Emma has a heart full of love. Because she is light magic and true love incarnate, and the savior. Her heart was already shown to be a powerful force of love in SEASON 2. The only confirmation of love I see is the door.
But still, Hook and Emma never received TLK. Which is still extremely odd.

Sure. Just like Emma and Neal.

She did love Neal yes. But it wasn’t true love. He was her first love and perhaps it was true love on his side but it was not on hers. She did not experience true love until Killian, GET. OVER. IT.
Again what Belle of all people says is irrelevant especially back then because she had no idea how Emma feels.
Umm no they were indicative of true love. As they specifically stated IN DIALOGUE about the meaning of both magical items connecting to true love between two people. Get away from those headcanons dear, focus on the canon. Emma and Killian are true love. You sound just like SQ shippers now and that’s not a good thing, LOL.
I don’t care if they didn’t get a TLK because they didn’t need one because the show has explicitly stated it’s true love. Just cause delusional people still refuse to see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. It’s stated in canon, it is canon. They’re a unique pairing, a freaking couple like Zades got true loves kiss. Sometimes it’s not a good thing to get the true love kiss. They get things that other couples do not get, that are unique.
Wile Emma and Neal never got any explicit confirmation of true love. No magical item, nothing except the dialogue from Belle about the stupid ring which BTW may indicate true love from Neal, but clearly not from Emma.
May 18, 2017 at 2:21 pm #339081TheWatcherParticipantBut it wasn’t true love
Then why did the swan keychain survive the curse? Lets explore it all.
Again what Belle of all people says is irrelevant especially back then because she had no idea how Emma feels.
Well, the writers have to have written Belle’s dialog and I would assume they know what they are talking about. Also its completely consistent with the magic of the show (the true love is more powerful than evil curses). So either the writers put in a line with no meaning or they did a thing and properly explained it. And why are Belle’s words meaningless when it comes to SF but you cited Snow and others saying Emma nad Hook had true love like two pages ago? Wouldn’t their words be meaningless too because they don’t know how others feel?
Also, Michael you didn’t answer my question from earlier: If Emma telling Neal she loved him doesn’t count because it was under duress, doesn’t that mean she doesn’t love Hook, Henry, and her parents too because she told them all that when she was under duress as well?

Plus recognizing him from the book.
There love was so strong it broke through a memory curse.
May 18, 2017 at 2:41 pm #339083TheWatcherParticipantOh, okay. Guess you are just going to ignore the, uh, plot holes in your flawed reasoning. You have no answers to questions that go against what you want to see. Okey dokey then.
Welp, does anyone else have any other points of discussion?

I can’t figure out if this is a response to my post or an anguished cris de coeur into the ether. Did I mention Belle?
Like….maybe yall should focus on the actual show and not those head canons.
People disagree with you, you lash out. People don’t disagree with you, you lash out. People ignore you, you lash out. Sheesh, there’s no pleasing some people.
Anyway, did my post at any point suggest that I was negating that Emma loved Hook? Or question the authenticity of Emma’s statement? Does it say, for example, something like “Well, Emma says she loves Hook, but really, she does so under very particular circumstances — specifically, she’s getting married and there’s certain ritualized speech patterns you use under such occasions which might involve some hyperbole and overstatements — and so we can’t take her statement too seriously. Or at least, not as seriously as we would on this other occasion where she states she loves someone under a totally different set of circumstances where such ritualized speech patterns don’t apply, where there’s no advanced preparation, and when the statement is clearly made spontaneously.”
If you read the post you were replying to one more time, you may notice the complete and total absence of the above statement in it, or anything even remotely resembling such a statement. In fact, the very first sentence clearly states that I take Emma at her word.
But, on an unrelated note, you seem to be bandying this term “headcanon” in a way that I find puzzling. Do you mean that you don’t think that OUAT is open to interpretation? That there is literally one single acceptable reading of the OUAT text and all other takes are foul heresies and must be stomped out at the root — a thankless exegetical task you are selflessly taking on? Alright, carry on.
May 18, 2017 at 3:48 pm #339087thedarkonedearieParticipantThe show stated their love was also TRUE LOVE!
Other than the keychain, am I missing another time the show actually stated they were true love, other than something an irrelevant character like Belle said?
Yes, they were magical forces but they both were not indicative of True Love between Hook and Emma.
Isn’t the keychain surviving the curse also a magical force though? How is it that you can say there were magical forces that give the impression of true love between Hook and Emma but that you do not think they are indicative of actual true love but then say the keychain surviving the curse IS indicative of Neal and Emma’s true love? Hmmm? Can’t they both be indicative of true love?
May 18, 2017 at 4:03 pm #339090MichaelBlockedI think the magical forces with Hook and Emma are confirmed true love because it was indicated and stated IN DIALOGUE that it’s effects work with TRUE LOVE specifically.
Belle was irrelevant and she barely interacted if at all with Emma at that point. Emma meanwhile stated that she did not know of true love like her parents until Killian. She did not believe in that true love until him.
Again with Neal and Emma it is never stated in dialogue aside from Belle whom is irrelevant. Whereas with Hook and Emma it is indisputable aside from the people that are in massive denial and delusional.
