ParticipantHere’s the analysis that inspired this post. Very well-said and has many good points: http://a-pirate-can-be-a-hero.tumblr.com/post/64666867312/some-late-night-ouat-feelings
THAT was certainly an interesting read, thanks MysteryKat!
That post makes me think back on the scenes where we saw Emma in jail – we were left with an image of her holding the positive pregnancy test in Tallahassee, and it was a stark stark image of the reality she would be facing. This was the first “anti-Neal” impression that imprinted itself on the conscious of most CS shippers I believe. And it’s one of the reasons why we (certainly me) can’t completely let it go. The writers did that deliberately.
Then there was the scene in 3×01 when she was giving birth to Henry. The camera very deliberately panned to the cuffs keeping Emma shackled to the bed. Again, a very stark image, one that provoked absolute fury in me.
But at the same time, they are showing us young Bae, what he was like, the moral choices he made. They WANT us to be conflicted about Neal. Really, they do. Because Neal wouldn’t be half as sympathetic if we hadn’t seen him as a child and the terrible trials he went through. Just like with Rumple and Regina.

ParticipantWow, people, I just watched the episode. And I wasn’t able to read all your posts yet cause I’m confused. I was a little taken aback by Emmas outburst concerning Neal. She realized that “she never stopped loving him”. I don’t know what to do with that right now. Well, she may still love him, but is it THAT kind of love? Like true love? I don’t believe that it is. To be honest, I don’t want to believe it. Well, Snow said she couldn’t move on after Charming died… Hmm… Emma did move on when she thought Neal had died. I mean clearly she was focussing on Henry and saving him but she still got along. It wasn’t like she couldn’t live without him. Ok, Snow and Emma are not the same, so maybe everbody deals differently with true love?! I don’t know, I’m confused and overwhelmed with feels. I think it’s obvious that Killian is slowly falling in love with Emma and I just couldn’t stand him being heartbroken and hurt – again. 🙁
Overall I really liked this episode. Pan is still great and I liked the tie in with the Pied Piper – awesome. And I had lots and lots of Bealfire and Rumple feels. I want them to sort things out. And I don’t want Neal to get evil, he needs to be a good father for Henry! I’m disappointed that he seems to be going there and doing really bad things. I’m still not over him using poor cute little Roland for his goal to get to Neverland.
The promo:
OMG I fear I have to rewatch it a million times til next monday. I’m beyond happy that there will be Killian backstory – finally!!!! They made us wait long enough for that. Well and the kiss. It will be epic. I can’t stop thinking about Faith Hills song “This kiss”: It’s the way you love me, it’s a feeling like this, it’s centripical motion, it’s perpetual bliss. It’s that pivotal moment, it’s so criminal, unstoppable, impossible, unthinkable, unsinkable, this KISS, THIS KISS! Can somebody make a fanvid?! 😉 Seriously, it’s gonna be smouldering.

We knew she loved him – she said it in 2×21. But nope honestly it’s not true love. I 100% believe that. Emma still loves Neal and cares for him deeply – he was her first love and he gave her no closure. Be she is NOT romantically in love with him (promise!).
The premise of the episode was about breaking “nasty habits”. Like MysteryKat said, the title of the episode was important. The nasty habits in this episode were holding people back from being the best version of themselves. Rumple was the most obviously affected by this. But so were the rest in different ways. Rumple and Emma were paralleled slightly in that both had their choices taken away by Neal – that is his nasty habit.
Now when you come to Emma’s speech, yes she says she loves him, and SF shippers are jumping all over that naturally, but they’re forgetting the entire CONTEXT of the conversation. Emma is very, very angry, and says as much. This is EMMA SWAN, the Queen of internalising her feelings. That is her nasty habit. BUT in this episode she let those feelings out. Her anger at having her choices taken away was allowed to come out – that’s what it boils down to. It was very healthy and very much needed in order for CS to move forward. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that in an episode called “Nasty Habits” Emma has an angry emotional breakdown and in the next episode “Good Form” she will be kissing Killian in a joyous situation.
This episode held huge character growth for Emma 😉
I think it’s obvious that Killian is slowly falling in love with Emma and I just couldn’t stand him being heartbroken and hurt – again.
Don’t worry – he won’t be. He was abandoned by his father. His brother must have died (think miraculous plant). Milah died. He didn’t get the family he wanted with Bae. That is so much tragedy – Emma is going to be Killian’s Happy Ending and he hers (promise!!!)

YES IT WILL. And next weeks episode is going to have a LOAD of parallels with Tallahassee, of that i’m nearly 100% sure. Next week will only be good for us!!! 😉
EDIT: TO EMMA AND KILLIAN. We are (finally!) canon! 😉

ParticipantJust going to post this here from a fantastic in-depth 3×04 review because it backs up what we’ve been saying:
I’ve seen a lot of people both complaining or rejoicing about Emma’s speech (depending on their feelings about Neal), but this speech was really about closure—and how Emma was denied that twice in her relationship with Neal. What struck me most was how angry she was. This was a woman who was so angry that she never got to tell Neal how much he broke her or how much she loved him. And she did love him—a part of her always will. Neal was the first person Emma ever really loved, and she was right; a part of her never stopped loving him. And a part of him never stopped loving her. That kind of love—first love, foundational love—leaves a mark on you that you can never fully deny or erase. And that’s what Emma had been trying to do for so long. But now she said it; she admitted that this man will always have a part of her heart, but she also admitted that she lost him a long time ago. Emma felt like a lost girl again. But this time, it wasn’t because she felt like that orphan in the foster system; it was because she felt like that 17-year-old girl who loved a man who left her without any warning.
Neverland is messing with Emma’s psyche more than anyone else’s—it’s preying on her insecurities, abandonment issues, and ideas about herself that she knows aren’t true anymore. But by admitting she felt like an orphan, Emma was finally able to begin to heal that part of her heart. Maybe by admitting she still loved Neal even after how much he hurt her will allow her heart to continue to heal. I know it sounds ridiculous because she’s a fictional character, but I want happiness for Emma Swan. Here’s hoping that next week’s episode gives her at least one moment of hope and happiness and healing with someone who might need it just as much as she does.

And even though we already discussed the scene in the gave where Killian again felt and tried to assuage Emma’s pain while ignoring his own, here is her take on it and it’s so eloquent:
It was interesting to see both Emma and Hook dealing with their grief in such different ways. Hook was unusually subdued in this episode, but his focus and attention seemed to always be on Emma, who was struggling with her grief more overtly than she has since Neal fell through the portal. In Neal’s cave, you could feel the tension between these two characters who were both coming to terms with Neal’s loss and all it means for them. For Hook, seeing Neal’s Neverland home brought back centuries of guilt and reopened the wound Milah’s death cut through his soul. When he mentioned Neal’s mother to Emma, it was his turn to draw away uncomfortably from her empathetic gaze, and that small moment spoke volumes to me about the ways Hook and Emma are similar—hiding behind self-constructed walls that are struggling to stay up in the presence of a kindred spirit. It’s why Hook was the first one to notice Emma wasn’t okay when they were in the cave; he understands her and her loss on a level no one else can, and he’s willing to put aside his own guilt and grief to make sure she’s alright.

ParticipantI’ve been thinking about last episode and I am not worried just yet.I think an important thing to note is that Hook is COURTING Emma this season . He’s trying to prove it to her by finding her son, trying to get her father’s approval and being as helpful as he can be. It’s old-fashioned and romantic. This is not a quick, lustful relationship on his side. I don’t think the writers would make him fall in love with Emma only to have her break his heart, his dreams and his happy ending. It would make the protagonist of the entire show look cold, unsympathetic and cruel. That is not in Emma’s character!
Also, in the promo, Charming tells Hook to get away from his daughter. This is a logical reaction from Charming. Hook has an option to a) deny it b) admit he cares him or c) perhaps says he loves her. If it’s the latter two, it could mean that Charming knows his secret and perhaps when Neal comes back, he will side with Hook. Hook has been doing the honorable thing in trying to court Emma. All Neal has shown them right now is breaking Emma’s heart, leaving her to go to jail, leaving her PREGNANT, and then coming back with a fiancé, who ended up putting them in this situation. I don’t think the Charmings would have open arms to Neal right now. If the writers do decide to have Snowing forget all that and praise Neal, I would be baffled!

I totally agree, it most definitely is not a quick lustful relationship for him. I think it must be obvious now even to the “other side” that our Killian has real strong feelings for Emma. He’s always supporting her and complimenting her and concerned about her welfare and he’s there with her in NL doing his level best to help her find her son even though he has no ties to the group except for Emma. That man is totally in love with her and he just doesn’t realise it yet IMO.
And yes, I agree, Adam and Eddy love Captain Hook, they won’t do something so cruel to him again. But honestly it’s more than that – to me their coupling defines/would define every definition of TL that Adam and Eddy have given us. Swanfire is just unhealthy to me.
Hm I don’t know if it would make Emma look cold etc., I mean it IS her choice at the end of the day. But 10000000% sure she’s going to choose Killian so that’s a moot point! 😉
Also, in the promo, Charming tells Hook to get away from his daughter. This is a logical reaction from Charming. I’m convinced that Killian will make it about Emma’s choice – he will say “I’d leave it up to Emma mate” or something to that effect. I feel like a broken record (sorry for repetition!) but choice is a Captain Swan theme. And when Killian says something to Charming along those lines it will completely underline the way somebody “else” took away her choices.
To be honest if Neal doesn’t get punched by David I’d be surprised. Killian got punched for much less than what Neal did to Emma.
Oh yes, i’m seeing stuff floating around on tumblr (again) about the TL theme being played when Emma was talking about Neal so I said I’d post something here in case anyone was worried. It was played at the end of the portal scene in 2×21 too when Emma said she loved Neal.
See a tweet from Adam here: http://lady-silverblood.tumblr.com/post/53208339624/onceuponamirror-keepcalmandtimelesslovepromo
That music was also played in the background when Henry died. And Emma was not truly IN love with Henry, but she DOES “truly love” him.
