This week Neal accepted all the pain he caused Emma and how she has EVERY RIGHT to be mad at him. But if Neal attempts to shame ANY of them – Emma or Killian – about it, then he sees Emma as something that belongs to him. Which, i’m just saying, would be VERY REMINISCENT of the Rumple/Milah/Hook triangle where Rumple saw Milah as little more than a possession that Killian took away from him. *shrugs* We’ll see!

I disagree that Rumple saw Milah as his possession. I think he was more angry that Milah left Bae rather than him. Whilst Hook does have some blame, being the cause of Milah’s leaving, it was the way she left Rumple and Bae that made everything worse. Milah led Rumple to believe that she had been kidnapped and would probably be subjected to repeated rapes. Rumple went down to Hook’s ship to plead for Milah’s safe return. Had Milah been honest with Rumple, he probably never would’ve gone down to Hook’s ship and the whole situation of Rumple killing Milah later could’ve been avoided.

Hook did the right thing this week and I can’t fault him for it (though I did notice he wanted to avoid telling Emma about Neal being alive whilst they rescued him- he had his perfectly natural reasons for why he wanted to do that but I do wonder how exactly he planned to do that). Hook has been much more likeable this season, he just needs to apologise to Belle for what he did last season, then I can stop holding it against him.

I don’t know what it is about Neal this season, but there’s just something about him that stops me from completely liking him. He was mean to Rumple which doesn’t help and he used Roland as bait which wasn’t right but there’s something else which I can’t quite put my finger on.

    Loved this ep!

    My thoughts:

Of course Killian went first in telling his secret in the cave to save Neal!

Killian called Milah his “first” love not his “true” love.

Neal had like zero emotional response to Emma’s speech, that HAD to have been scripted. He basically just sat there.

Emma/Killian parallel: Hook spent 300 years thinking he would never be able to get over his first love and then he met Emma and realized he could. Emma thought she was over Neal then saw him and realized she still had these unresolved issues. The princess of True Love – Snow White – is pushing Emma into getting back together with Neal because he was her first love. Emma is now going to spend time thinking she can’t get over her first love and will waste time, just like Killian did. Not 300 years, but still it will be time wasted because she will think that because she still has these feelings it must be true love not “first” love so they have to try to get back together.

BUT – the other parallel between Killian and Emma is that Killian’s Milah WAS dead and it STILL took him 300 years to find someone that made him realize that he could love someone else – it took him 300 years to find his true love. Emma said she hoped Neal really was dead so she could move on. At the end of the day – it doesn’t matter whether Neal is alive or dead (as proven by Killian) Emma has to deal with how she was wounded by Neal before she will be able to move on and be with her true love (Killian). The problem for Emma is that she is just opening herself up to more pain, trying to make it work with Neal again is going to make it worse not better because he has NOT grown at all as a person.

Neal’s comment “I’ll never STOP fighting for you.” I’m sorry, did I miss a few episodes somewhere??? When, exactly did he ever START fighting for her????

I disagree that Rumple saw Milah as his possession. I think he was more angry that Milah left Bae rather than him.

While you do bring up a good point there, I do believe that Rumple saw Milah as “his” when he became the Dark One. “Do you know what it feels like, to have your wife stolen from you?” There were several more lines of dialogue that also led me to believe that. Rumple and Milah didn’t really love each other anymore when Milah left, but Rumple still regarded Milah as being “his”. That’s just my opinion though! The way he treats Belle is completely different.

Hook did the right thing this week and I can’t fault him for it (though I did notice he wanted to avoid telling Emma about Neal being alive whilst they rescued him- he had his perfectly natural reasons for why he wanted to do that but I do wonder how exactly he planned to do that).

He wanted to avoid telling Emma in order to avoid any more hurt on her part. That is love. Charming wanted the same thing, also out of love. The only difference was that Killian’s is romantic love and Charming’s is paternal love. I agree with you though – they didn’t exactly have the best game plan!!! “Where are you guys going?” “Firewood” “Water” LOL!

Hook has been much more likeable this season, he just needs to apologise to Belle for what he did last season, then I can stop holding it against him.

I think he will, eventually, but it’ll take a while, since Rumple is obviously going to be fiercely protective of Belle around Killian.

I don’t know what it is about Neal this season, but there’s just something about him that stops me from completely liking him. He was mean to Rumple which doesn’t help and he used Roland as bait which wasn’t right but there’s something else which I can’t quite put my finger on.

You should read some of the stuff from about 8 pages ago, we’ve been talking about that quite a bit here! 🙂 I guess at the end of the day you have to think about who will make Emma happy. Because from my standpoint? There’s only one man. That man who has been making her happiness his TOP PRIORITY for this whole season so far, and will continue to do so.

And that leads me on to thoughts on rewatch:

In Good Form we had several genuine smiles from Emma, in Killian’s company of course, and it was because, as she said herself, she was “feeling good”. When was the last time Emma felt good before that? I’m guessing a loooooooong time.

In Ariel we had no genuine smile of happiness from Emma. None. This is a woman who is retrieving her supposed True Love from the clutches of Pan. It’s a victory! She should feel pretty good. But no, she doesn’t. And why is that? Because seeing Neal, seeing that he was alive, was enough to catapult her back to her 11 years of emotional pain and loneliness. She wants to move on, so badly, and yet, it just keeps evading her reach. It’s like Emma took 2 steps forward with the last 5 episodes, and took 10 steps back upon seeing Neal again. And it’s just so sad.

    And this line:

    I wish I could change how I feel, more than anything, but…. I can’t.

Even after admitting all that to Neal, she still wants to move on, that is basically what she said. And so, Neal’s line that he would “never stop fighting for her” is just so incredibly selfish. She has told him that she wants to move on, that him being alive makes it harder for her to do that, that being around him causes her pain. And he just completely disregards ALL OF THAT and basically says “well, your going to be in a lot of pain then, because i’m not going anywhere”.

    UUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH *BLEEP*ING NEAL

Oh, I forgot. Is there EVER going to be a moment when David goes all shot gun crazy on Neal????

He started to freak out when he heard that Killian KISSED Emma. Uuuuummm, Neal did a whole lot more than just kiss his little girl. Has this fact somehow escaped the Charmings???? They seem so eager for Emma to get back together with the guy that got their teenage daughter knocked up and purposely imprisoned?? As a parent myself who watches this show about fairy tale characters who are real I find THAT fact the most unbelievable and disturbing part of the entire show!!!

Love all those thoughts @rumplegoldfan!!!! The parallels too 🙂

LOL – we’ve been saying the same thing! I think it was at some stage when the woman he was genuinely in love with and moved on with shot him and he fell through a portal……………………..

    THEY DON’T KNOW YET

*rubs hands together in glee*  (i’m soooooooooooo evil)

When he finds out, the least Neal deserves is a punch!

Look, in some ways I feel sorry for Neal, because he did seem to accept a lot of Emma’s pain, kudos and all that. I mean, it’s obvious now he’s realised he made all the wrong choices, because why else would he feel so bad if he didn’t know? Why else would he be so understanding?

But any sympathy I had was blown away by the “i’ll never stop fighting for you” BS

LOL I AM SORRY FOR POSTING SO MUCH BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT

    Snow to Charming:

If you died I would not be able to move on!

    Emma to Neal:

I was hoping you were dead because it would be easier to put you behind me than to face all the pain we went through again

    LOLOLOLOL SPOT THE FREAKING DIFFERENCE

Hahahahahaha, like seriously, how can there even be doubts anymore?

I know I posted this elsewhere, but I’ll go ahead and say the same thing here, too.

I really am very displeased with the love proclaimation Neal made to Emma, and here’s the reason why.  Unless Neal just never loved Tamara in the first place, whether villan or not, his heart would have still been involved. I mean according to that timeline, just a couple of days before, he’d been engaged to marry this girl who betrayed him, and is now dead. Realistically, his emotions would not simply have an on, and off button. He would need time to heal from this before transferring that kind of loyalty to another woman, even if it is someone who he already has affection for.

In the real world, somebody in his shoes would be in a state of shock. He’d want answers, he’d need closure, and he’d need time to grieve. Instead, 48 hours after his ex-fiance is dead, he’s telling Emma he loves her, and will fight for her. In my opinion, that really cheapens the concept of love, and it’s value. If Neal really loved Emma, if she were his first choice, when he saw her in New York, Tamara would have been history. That didn’t happen, and so that’s why for me, this proclaimation of love just screams “rebound” or “second choice”. If I were Emma, I’d be insulted, and really concerned that someone who said he loved someone else a couple of days ago was able to switch gears that easily.

I have to disagree with you on this point. Rumple killed Milah because he HATED himself for letting Bae go, he needed & wanted to shift blame on to someone else IMO. He also hated the fact Milah said she never loved him, but was in love with Hook (as he feel’s unlovable- so again it’s about his own issues). I too think he was angry/shocked that Milah left- but for them both to be honest (Adam & Eddy made it perfectly clear that Milah had been trying for a while to get Rumple to see how unhappy she was living as they were, she just wanted to move away & start afresh, but Rumple refused to do so- what you say of Milah, is also true of Rumple- IF he had actually loved Milah, more than he fared change, they’d have still been together & what happen with Hook never would have gone down, Neal would never be & we’d never have this awesome story 😉 ). Milah NEVER EVER led Rumple to believe anything- it was a random villager who told Rumple Milah was being kidnapped by pirates, not her.

I could not agree with you any more. Everything you just said is so true. Emma IS Neal’s second choice. That’s why we’re all so angry and annoyed that suddenly now “he’ll never stop fighting for her”. BS. Absolute BS. Especially when he didn’t even say HE LOVED HER.

Just out of interest, who do you actually ship Emma with? 🙂
