Killian telling Emma he believes in her and doesn’t doubt for a second that she’ll accomplish her goal- My little CS shipper heart near exploded

I KNOW I DIED THAT WHOLE SCENE KILLED ME

I REALLY respected Neal for simply saying ’that if Henry’s the one good thing that came out of their being together then they did alright’

Yes I did too, even though some other things he said rubbed me up the wrong way. But I think he may always rub me up the wrong way. And on rewatch I don’t think he was trying to take away credit from Emma for catching the shadow.

    LOVE the gifset. Here’s another:

If there was any doubt as to whether it was Neal or Killian that was paralleled with Emma last week, then this PROVES it was Killian. Lalalala both picking their friends before their chance at TL – very honourable. Good form Killy. Good form.

So who’s going to win her heart in the end?!

“I also believe in good form so when I win your heart, Emma, I won’t win it with trickery. I will win it because you want me.” By ceaselessly putting her happiness above everything else, we have Killian Jones bestowing chivalry at its finest as he valorizes the fact that he will not give up fighting for Emma Swan’s heart. The rare understanding that exquisitely binds them together continues to serve as an emblem in their promising romance. He doesn’t just have hope that she’ll rescue Henry, he knows it. With his unwavering persistence, he continues to crystallize her hope by wholeheartedly believing in her.

“Emma, I just want to say that you’re right about Henry. He’s all that matters and if he’s the only thing that came from us being together then I say we did alright.” This is the exact character development we’ve been hoping for when it comes to Neal. He’s acknowledging the notion that it truly is all about Henry and that being together brought beauty in the world. Emma and Neal are undeniably capable of being outstanding parents, but ultimately they work extremely well as just friends. Did anyone else catch Neal’s smile when he saw Tinkerbell? We aren’t jumping to any conclusions here, but it’s a smile we haven’t seen from him in a while.

The big take away for me was also how much Emma’s changed from when Neal fell in love with her. Remember what he told her in Manhattan about he never would have gone near her if he knew where she was from? Remember why he left the EF in the first place? Now by some weird chance he found himself connected back to both of those things he resents. Nealfire grew to hate magic, he wanted it gone from his life and now to be with Emma he’d have to deal with accepting magic as a part of his life. The person Emma is now is so entirely different from who she was before. With Hook he’s falling for the person she is now, he knows her so well and really admires, believes in and respects who she is. The thing with the magic makes me think, that part of Emma isn’t something Hook would see as negative with Neal that’s something that he’ll have to work to accept.

    I agree.

I love it when fanfiction becomes reality. Like I wrote that Killian wanted to do right by Emma. I think it’s also telling in that same speech that maybe, Neal, because he is jealous won’t go about wooing Emma the right away.

Maybe he’ll resort to “trickery”. That would be an interesting contrast between the two men. One does it the right way, and the other does it through malicious means. I don’t know about you all but I would root for the guy who woos Emma the right away: Killian.

I love Mark Isham. He is awesome. Music is very important on this show. Each character/couple have their own musical theme. So anyway…

It’s something I noticed and found quite important, during Emma and Killian’s scene, we can hear their theme, it’s not new, we all caught it, it’s full of hope, it screams true love and passion.

But then, when Emma tells them Henry is her choice, you can hear her theme, the one we can hear every time she’s the lost girl or the orphan, when she gets left behind or when she’s hurt and scared.

It’s important and they did it on purpose, on one hand you have a ship with a powerful theme when Emma lets her walls down, then the moment after, you have Emma building her walls up and her theme, the lost girl theme.

Even the music screams true love.

    [x]

See, Mark Isham is a composition genius. He is showing us through music, how Emma has hope with Killian but when she puts up her walls, we stop hearing the hopeful beautiful CS theme and only hers, which represents loneliness and basically, her being an orphan and alone. I see what you did there Mark Isham.

So.. I absolutely LOVED this episode!  You all have brought up some great points in regards to Neal’s reaction to Emma using magic and how he possibly feels about that. I totally agree that he is learning she’s a different person now than she used to be. Here are some other thoughts I had on this episode!

    1. When Emma, Hook and Neal were off to find Pan’s shadow and Neal needed something to cut the plants with, Emma whips out his old sword. (She almost sliced Hook’s face in the process though! Poor guy.) What I liked about Neal finding out that Hook gave Emma that sword, is what it says about Hook. Hook tells Neal that he thought Emma would wish to have something to remember him by. This shows how considerate and caring he is for Emma’s feelings. He lost Milah and kept her picture with him. He didn’t even destroy Bae’s shawl that he stole from Rumple because Milah made it. He understands what it’s like to lose someone you love and he IS sentimental. Having items around to remember Milah by gave him some comfort, and he wanted Emma to have the same comfort when she thought Neal had died. He recognized that she was hurting and, in my mind, giving her Neal’s sword was Hook’s way of putting his arms around her to console her, since he couldn’t physically do that at the time without Emma (or Charming) probably punching him in the face. Anyway, this is just another example of how Hook supports her, cares for her feelings, and totally understands who she is.

2.) The “When I win your heart…” speech was amazing! I love Hook’s confidence! I didn’t find it pushy or like he was pressuring Emma at all! I felt that it was romantic, and I kind of got annoyed when Neal came back and broke the moment so soon. If they weren’t in Neverland and if Henry wasn’t being held captive by Psycho Pan, and if Emma had time to process her feelings, I’m completely sure there would have been a kiss!  What I liked so much about their conversation is that it showed Hook’s belief IN Emma. He thinks she’s amazing and has no doubt that she’ll rescue her son. That’s why he felt comfortable talking about their potential relationship, even with Henry being in danger. Because Hook knows that Henry WILL be rescued. Hook knows it will all be ok, and when it is, Emma will have to make a choice of who she wants to be with. And at this point, it’s pretty clear who that is, even if Emma isn’t ready to process it yet.

3.) Many of you have mentioned that Neal represents Emma’s past and Hook represents her future. I could not agree more with that and the scene with Pan’s shadow definitely proved this theme! That scene was so indicative of where the writers are leaning with this triangle (or non-triangle). The fact that Emma screamed Hook’s name when he was in danger, while Neal screamed her name is VERY interesting. It’s as if Neal screaming Emma’s name symbolizes  him wanting to bring her back to the past, but she’s already moved on to her future (symbolized by her screaming for Hook). Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but that’s what I took from that scene.

4.) That look between Neal and Tink…TinkerFire? Just sayin.’

Amazing episode overall!!! I really can’t wait for Henry to be rescued and for them to get back to Storybrooke so that the “fun begins” as Hook said. Excited for more CS scenes to come!!!

I think it’s also telling in that same speech that maybe, Neal, because he is jealous won’t go about wooing Emma the right away.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but i’m going to stick with what I said for now. I think Neal will come to realise that he and Emma aren’t meant to be, and he’ll be good about it. He already took a step back this week when he said last week that he would never stop fighting for her. To me this means he is finally listening to what she said in the cave.

The fact that by 3×10,3×11 and 3×12 we have glimpses of CS working together, still being a team and going around on car drives together pretty much suggests to me that she has picked Killian consciously by then. I could be wrong. But I think during the episode last night she realised that she has strong feelings for him.

I love the CS theme so much. I agree with what you posted obisgirl, all of that. To me, “Tallahassee” just can’t cut it as a theme for a TL couple. But that’s just my opinion. Hopefully we’ll get the full CS theme in the season 3 soundtrack, but until then, the theme has been extracted from the episode here:

The “When I win your heart…” speech was amazing! I love Hook’s confidence! I didn’t find it pushy or like he was pressuring Emma at all!

I agree that it wasn’t pressuring. However pushy? It was IMO. But it was pushy in the right way, the true love way. Emma wasn’t ready to hear it lol, and it kind of threw her. But that scene between them? It was paralleled quite strongly to Rumbelle’s and Snowings interaction in the episode. It’s amazing what half a dozen re-watches will tell you (don’t judge me I have Mondays off lol). Rumple was telling Belle to believe in the strength of their love and was building up her confidence in herself. Killian was building up Emma’s confidence in herself, supporting her, in just the same way. Charming didn’t tell Snow about the poison because he felt it wasn’t fair to her, because he knew she would choose to stay. Killian told Emma that he wouldn’t resort to trickery to win her heart, because obviously, that isn’t fair to her, or to him, or to Neal.

However, all that said, I cannot get over the hypocrisy. Killian is being pushy because he says he will win her heart. But he also says “it will be because you want me” implying that he is giving her a very clear choice in the matter. Neal says “i’ll never stop fighting for you, never” and that’s romantic? Especially when he had just over-ridden her choice to move on? Like, I’m saying here that Killian is being pushy and last week I said that Neal was pushy. However the context and the dialogue are different. So i’m not being hypocritical here IMO. But I feel as though some ARE being hypocritical.

Lol – yep! I honestly don’t understand how it’s NOT clear to everyone by now. They have been hitting us over the head with it.

It’s as if Neal screaming Emma’s name symbolizes him wanting to bring her back to the past, but she’s already moved on to her future (symbolized by her screaming for Hook). Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but that’s what I took from that scene.

I would agree! But I’ve been one of those spouting on and on about the past versus the future lol, so naturally 😉

I really can’t wait for Henry to be rescued and for them to get back to Storybrooke so that the “fun begins” as Hook said.

Phew I had to fan myself when I heard that line! If he’s not trying now – I can’t wait to see what he’ll be like in SB lol.

    OMG I HAVE DIED

You know what kills me about “Dark Hollow”?

Let me just remind you that both Graham and Killian are her “flames of hope”

Graham died in 1×07 and she couldn’t protect him. Her flame died out.

Killian was nearly killed in 3×07. But this time she saved him by ACTUALLY LIGHTING A CANDLE. SHE CREATED FLAME.

She couldn’t let another person she, at least, cares about die.
She couldn’t allow her flame to go out again.

I love this girls reviews. Especially because she basically says everything we say. Her OTP is Snowing btw. Not CS, she’s pretty open minded toward both. BUT SHE SEES WHAT WE SEE, and that’s important to know.

If we’re looking at the facts of this episode, Neal’s chances are looking slimmer by the minute. Hook is the one Emma continually looks to for guidance about Neverland, and he’s the one she pulled aside to ask about Neal’s attitude. He’s also the only one she called out for when the shadows attacked. Don’t get me wrong; like I said, I think Emma and Neal have a fascinating dynamic, but it’s fascinating because it’s so complex and broken. And what do I want for Emma right now as a character? I want hope, happiness, and support for this character who has lived without those things for so long.

And coincidentally, those are all the things Hooks gave to her in their moment alone in the jungle (along with plenty of sincerity and sexual tension—a very winning combination in my book). I love that Hook is nothing but honest with Emma throughout this scene—from telling her why Pan told him about Neal to telling her he’s not giving up on his quest to win her heart. Hook’s honesty and selflessness mean more to Emma than any kiss because she’s never really had either of those things in her life for any extended period of time, and I’m sure she’s had plenty of kisses.

I’m sure Emma has also had plenty of empty promises thrown her way in life, so it’s a big deal that she didn’t shut down Hook’s assertion that he will win her heart. In fact, Emma looked—dare I say it?—incredibly turned on by his earnest profession of his intentions. And, honestly, who wouldn’t be with words like this coming from a pirate with a sense of honor who looks like Colin O’Donoghue:

When I win your heart, Emma — and I will win it— it will not be because of any trickery. It will be because you want me.

I’m sorry, I’m still swooning over that almost a day later. What got me the most was the incredible sincerity O’Donoghue gave to each line. Hook isn’t acting out of sheer bravado; it’s been established that he and Emma understand each other, and he knows that if he continues to be the honorable man that loving her has helped him become once again, he will win her heart. He doesn’t want her as a prize; he wants to earn her heart. He wants her to choose him not just over Neal but over her own walls. And he knows that the only Emma worth having is the Emma who kissed him—the Emma who wants him, the Emma who chooses him.

Morrison did such a phenomenal job of physically showing just how affected Emma was by Hook’s words. The way her body angles towards him rather than away from him, the way she looks at his lips, her soft smile, and the breathless way she tells him that it’s not a competition all show us just how attracted Emma is to this combination of Killian Jones (sincere and vulnerable) and Captain Hook (“A man unwilling to fight for what he wants deserves what he gets.”). But Henry is still her top priority—and Hook understands that. Emma saving Henry isn’t anything but a certainty in his mind, and the matter-of-fact way O’Donoghue said that line just about killed me.

Emma is afraid she’ll fail; she still doubts herself. And Hook is the only one she let her guard down in front of, the only one she let see her doubts about being a leader and saving her son. The way Morrison showed Emma latching onto Hook’s belief in her was beautiful. He believes in her with a totality that is only matched by Henry’s belief in her, and that’s a huge thing for this lost girl who grew up without anyone believing in her. And that matters to her, you can see it all over her face. Not only can she be vulnerable with Hook, she can look to him for strength in her moments of self-doubt and know he’s not lying when he says she will succeed. Once Upon a Time is a show about hope and belief, and that one moment showed how Hook gives Emma both of those things. Good form, indeed, Captain.
