ParticipantJust had a good read of this JMo interview- Love her insights!
Morrison: Hook’s really taken her by surprise in positive ways, over and over again. She’s so grateful he didn’t lie, and overwhelmed with gratitude that he helped save David’s life — and now trying to save Henry. Hook has stepped up and is present in selflessly offering his help. She’s not used to people showing up for her, Emma’s used to people letting her down, so she has an overwhelming response to someone who doesn’t let her down and is proving to be there for her. Hook is adding to her life and helpful to her life. It does have her attention and whether or not it turns into something more, it will always be meaningful to her that he’s participating in her life in such a significant way.

ParticipantI love that JMO states plainly that Hook being in Emma’s life is a GOOD THING and that he is being SELFLESS and HELPFUL and surprising her IN A GOOD WAY over and over again. Coming straight from the source so every argument against that is proven false. Love it!

Yes, I totally agree 🙂

ParticipantSo, to recap:
- Hook makes her life better
- He’s also responsible for bringing back her red jacket
Charming has made Snow’s life better and every time, she feels down or lost, he’s there to pick her up again.
How are Emma and Hook NOT True Love again?

ParticipantKinda like wondering if her tattoo happens to be of a buttercup and just also manages to match Charming’s shield – I need answers!
Mwahahahaha:
THE MEANING OF BUTTERCUP = “CHARM” OR “CHARMING”
“Make of that what you will”.

Also – the CS theme WAS in Tallahassee so it was there FROM THE BEGINNING as well, just like we’ve said. I’m so sick of people saying that fans forced their hands into doing us some really big fanservice and that it was never their intention to go this route when Adam has said over and over again that his vision for the Hook storyline (and for how Hook and Emma’s storylines would overlap) is still in tact so just keep believing!
*rolls eyes at people saying CS is fanservice*
Lets not also forget that sometime AT THE BEGINNING OF SEASON 2 JMo had an interview where she said that Emma could fall in love with a villain and “wouldn’t that be fun?”
So yeah. Next silly argument please.
So I’m not worried about any potential SF episodes, because so far they’ve been compared to CaptainSwan or Rumple/Milah and none of them have been really all that good for them. 3×12 is called New York City Serenade but Adam said it’s “#notwhatyouthink” so I’m waiting until we know more. Even if there IS a SF episode, I feel it way more likely that it’s about them getting CLOSURE and less about them reuniting.
I’m pretty sure we NEVER got mention of Emma and Neal in NY. Only Portland. The only couple associated with NY is Neal and Tamara. There has been no mention of MRJ being on set, and even if he is, he’s not the one with Emma lol. I actually wouldn’t mind if it was a Neal-centric flashback, but either way the fact that Neal has not yet had a centric episode combined with the fact that the “triangle” has already started? Yeah, it just shows to me that Neal is not a contender tbh.
Hook actually makes her smile, as she makes him smile too.
THIS IS WHAT IS BOILS DOWN TO – who can make Emma happy. Like, ONLY ONE of these men is making her happy.
OMG THAT INTERVIEW:
Morrison: We’re getting close to the point where our heroes, as they call us in the stage directions, are seeing their plan come to fruition. It’s also really redeeming for Emma that saving Neal is helping the situation with Henry. I think there was some confusion with the fans about why Emma would go to save Neal as if it were a distraction from saving Henry. But Neal had lived in Neverland before and she needed to make the next strategic move that would help them get Henry back because they were missing so much information. She saw Neal as the missing puzzle piece that would help them save Henry and that was the truth; he knows how to get them off the island, so it’s been redeeming that Emma trusted her instincts in thinking they would need Neal to beat Pan because she was right.
So lemme get this straight. JMo is raving about how:
- Emma is very grateful to Hook
- His actions are selfless
- She’s “overwhelmed” that he didn’t lie and that he saved David’s life
- He’s been there for her and hasn’t let her down
- Hook is “adding” to her life
- Hook is “helpful” in her life
- What he’s doing will always be meaningful to her
So basically Emma is overwhelmed with Hook’s actions and she is responding strongly to them.
And Neal:
- Is useful to the #SaveHenry strategy
LIKE, TELL ME AGAIN HOW THIS IS A CLICHED “LOVE TRIANGLE” BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW WHAT SHOW YOU’RE WATCHING IF YOU THINK IT IS
JMo is so incredibly biased and I love it, whether she was told to lean for Killian or not. I mean, she had a perfect opportunity there to bring up Neal with regards to the “love triangle” question. She had a perfect opportunity to bring up Emma’s old feelings for Neal. She had a perfect opportunity to say that Emma wants to have another go.
I love that JMO states plainly that Hook being in Emma’s life is a GOOD THING and that he is being SELFLESS and HELPFUL and surprising her IN A GOOD WAY over and over again. Coming straight from the source so every argument against that is proven false. Love it!

Participant@MysteryKat Love your summary!
Love especially what you said about the difference between where Emma stands with Neal and Hook right now. I had actually been thinking that was why Hook told Emma that she IS going to have to choose and that it was completely appropriate and necessary for him to tell her that.
I think I feel a bit differently than most people about the secret Emma revealed to Neal. While I understand what she was saying to him given what we know because we have seen her history with Hook, the kiss, heard Hook’s secret and seen her reaction to it – Neal did know ANY of that information. So from Neal’s perspective I don’t think he feels that Emma was telling him that he she doesn’t want a relationship with him. I think he feels that she just opened up about HOW badly he hurt her and that trying to make it work with him again is such a painful thought that she can’t even deal with it so she was hoping he was dead so she WOULDN’T have to deal with it. So I feel like, to Neal, he feels like he was actually given a glimmer of hope – in an oddly worded way. So when Killian told Emma that she was going to have to choose I think that we are still seeing the more emotionally mature of the two men – Killian wants Emma and is confident that she will choose him but he also knows that really there is no such thing as a love triangle. He knows that Emma really already knows who she loves and who she wants to be with and not being direct with one of them isn’t doing ANY of them any favors because until she chooses there will be childish behavior like with the lighter while they fight over her – which he obviously feels ridiculous about. Killian doesn’t ever allow Emma to get away with being evasive – he calls her out on everything, which is exactly what she needs to stop throwing her walls up when things get uncomfortable for her. He recognizes that it really isn’t fair for her string BOTH guys along. She WILL have to choose regardless of how uncomfortable that decision is for her. And as @MysteryKat points out I think Killian recognizes that Emma probably feels she somehow owes it to Neal to give him a “second chance” because of their past history and because he is Henry’s father. But that isn’t a valid reason to choose someone if you really love someone else. Killian obviously cared a great deal about Bae so he doesn’t want him to get hurt, yet again. And, since I believe that he knows Emma has already chosen him (even if she doesn’t realize it completely herself yet), he doesn’t want Neal to be hurt being strung along. That would be history repeating itself – Milah stayed with Rumple when she later told him that never loved him. So when Hook came along she easily feel in love with him and wanted to leave with him. If she never loved Rumple she never should have been with him in the first place. As painful as it would be for Neal now, the sooner Emma makes it clear that she doesn’t want a relationship with him again the easier it will be for him – she can make it clear that she was never choosing Killian over him, it was that she was never going to be able to be with Neal again period. I think the fact that Emma and Neal have reason to work together to get their son back is another reason that she needs to be careful with how she behaves with him – they have a shared goal because they are both Henry’s parents, that shared goal doesn’t change regardless of whether Emma wants to choose Neal or not but I think that Neal will read her working with him as choosing him unless she spells it out for him.
But as @MysteryKat points out, Emma has no reason to work with Killian as closely as she does. She has no reason to feel she owes him anything, even though he is helping to save Henry they don’t have a shared goal in the same way that she does with Neal yet she has ALWAYS looked to Killian for suggestions and approval before deciding what to do. If she really wanted to focus on only saving Henry and not deal with either guy she would shut both of them out and work strictly with Regina and Rumple but she doesn’t do that. She still works with both of them and when danger appears her automatic reflex is to be concerned for Killian and to make immediate decisions based upon keeping him safe.
The difference between Emma with Killian and Emma with Neal for some reason reminds me of a person who goes on an anti-depressant. The person was able to function and live their life before they went on the medication and they accomplished the things they needed to accomplish each day – that’s Emma with Neal. But then when the person goes in the anti-depressant they will often say that they didn’t realize how BAD they felt before they started taking the medication. Suddenly things seems much brighter, they are happy even though they didn’t realize they were sad all the time, they smile and their family members comments on what a different person they are now, they have more confidence in themselves, and they feel like they have more to look forward to. It seems like with Neal – everything is very down and dark, and talking about overcoming past issues is this never ending discussion of words but no action (on both their parts). But with Killian, Emma smiles and when there is discussion of past hurts their is not only words but their are also actions that help overcome the past baggage – also on both their parts. There is talk of the present and the future and when the past is discussed it is about how they are overcoming the past, whereas with Neal there is only discussion of the present and of what they had in the past and of how much they were hurt in the past. There is never any discussion of the future. Neal even says I will never stop fighting for you and tells her that if nothing else ever comes of their relationship – at least they made a great kid, nothing that shows any positive movement to the future. Whereas Killian tells Emma that she will choose him, he will win her heart, and when she does rescue Henry and they gets back to SB that is when the fun will begin – all talk of the future – THEIR future.

I’ve been trying to decipher what MRJ meant by “The future will further define the meaning of the present.” He said that at SDCC this past summer and I feel like, it’s kind of similar to what you’re saying.
Whereas Killian tells Emma that she will choose him, he will win her heart, and when she does rescue Henry and they gets back to SB that is when the fun will begin – all talk of the future – THEIR future.
That’s really beautiful.

ParticipantI’m writing a fic and need some help on the characterisation of Hook. Emma is marrying Neal. They have their bachelor/bachelorette parties the night before their wedding. On the day of the Wedding, it is discovered that Neal is missing. Everyone is trying to find Neal without letting Emma, Snow or Henry find out what has happened. However, Hook finds out that Neal is missing and decides that Emma should be informed. How would he tell her?
Because of last week’s episode, my feelings towards Hook aren’t exactly favourable (however that could easily change depending on what he does on Sunday) so I don’t want to write Hook as “the bad guy”. Whilst there may be an element of Hook’s telling her about Neal because he hopes it might mean there’s a chance for him with Emma, I don’t want that to be the reason why he’s telling her.
Neal’s gone missing through no fault of his own, not because he’s trying to run out on Emma.
So how would Hook break the news of Neal’s disappearance to Emma? How would he behave? What would he do?
All magic comes with a price!
