ParticipantI realized, Emma gave up Henry so he can get his best shot. Hook did give up Bae to the lost boys for Bae’s safety.
THIS! I think Hook knew if Bae was completely on his own, it would’ve been a far worse situation than if Bae were captured by Pan. At least if he’s in Pan’s inner circle, he’s not being hunted by them while trying to figure out how to fend for himself. I’m betting a lot of Pan’s “dirty work” that Hook did was to keep Bae safe.

ParticipantYeah, you could say I mildly shipped them but it didn’t take long to realize he might not be the person for her. From the beginning it felt like he was using her; if he cared at all he wouldn’t have let her go get the watches to begin with. Especially being the age she was; she was eager for love and after rewatching it felt like he easily could have manipulated her into getting the watches for him. (not saying he did)… Sorry I could go on forever.. I don’t dislike Neal but they way he has treated Emma does not show love.. Or at least how I would treat some one I loved..
Someone who is grating on my nerves lately is Snow; I just want to yell at her to leave Emma alone.
But I really want more of Hook and Charming bonding…loved what we have gotten in the last few episodes…
You’ll have to forgive me.. I’m not very techy and this is the first time with this sorta thing… but glad I joined in.

I would agree with this, but at the same time, I don’t want to see Killian through rose-coloured glasses.
Killian does have a tendency to go straight to the revenge route – hurt them because they hurt me. It’s his biggest flaw. I have no problem with that – one of the reasons I love Killian is BECAUSE he is flawed. He’s a very realistic person, much more realistic than Charming for instance, who always does the honourable thing for the greater good.
I think that he called the Lost Boys to come and get him, but if Bae had told him he wanted to stay with him the second time Killian asked, I think he would have moved heaven and earth to keep him out of Pan’s clutches.
Hook did some bad things, but I’m pretty sure he made up for what he did to Bae seeing as Neal wasn’t hostile toward him until he found out about Emma.
What matters is who Killian is NOW, because as Emma said about Regina:
“I couldn’t have changed if I wasn’t given a chance – so she gets one too.”
Emma has an unbelievable capacity to love and forgive, so if she can forgive Regina – the woman who cast the curse that separated her from her parents and tried to have her “removed” from Henry’s life multiple times – then she can give Killian a chance. THAT is what matters.
The difference with Neal is that he is selfish in his love for Emma, and doesn’t think first and foremost about her happiness. I don’t give a toss what SFers say about Neal giving up Emma for “the greater good” or whatever. Because it took Emma 11 long, unhappy years to find her parents, and all that time she had massive trust issues, was angry, and unbelievably lonely.
Killian would have found a way to keep Emma happy AND get back to her parents. That’s all I’m saying.
(sorry went off on a rambling tangent here lol)

I LOVE YOU CONVERTED SWANFIRE SHIPPER
lol
Someone who is grating on my nerves lately is Snow; I just want to yell at her to leave Emma alone.
Snow has been irritating me a bit alright, but I think it’s because she just doesn’t have her footing with Emma yet… Ginnifer said that Snow would have to learn how to love Emma how Emma needs to be loved. And that is as her friend. Emma doesn’t need mothering, she’s a grown-up now, and is in far more need of a friend. Heck, I don’t require mothering from my mother anymore – so we are literally just good friends now. That is what an adult mother-daughter relationship should be like IMO.
Instead we have Emma feeling “pushed” toward Neal.
From spoiler photos, we see Snowing smiling at Killian on the horse – he’s presumably setting off somewhere in his quest to find Emma. So it looks like, SOMEHOW, Killian gains Snow’s approval.
I hope.

Captain Charming!!! Yes, I think we’re going to see some in the EF flashbacks in 3B, soooo excited!!
And we’re glad you joined in too! I joined in last summer, I NEEDED to talk about CS with other people. So glad I did 🙂

ParticipantSince we’re talking about how bad Neal is for Emma, someone FINALLY made this gifset:
#that’s the major difference between Snowing and Swanfire/thief#she blatantly says she could never love again if she lost David#because that’s what TL is#that’s it#there’s no moving on from it#And both sides of Swanfire/thief say they wanna move on#Emma wants to put it behind her#and Neal DID#i just…#when it’s True Love you never want to be without that person#and that seems pretty blatant to me
[x]
I think those gifs make it pretty clear.
- Neal contemplates moving on STRAIGHT AWAY after he abandoned Emma
- Snow can’t contemplate moving on from David if HE DIES
- Killian takes THREE HUNDRED YEARS to move on from Milah
- Emma wants to put her and Neal’s pain-filled relationship BEHIND HER i.e. she wants to move on
(God Emma’s face in that gif just MURDERS ME I just want to hug her and tell her I love her and tuck her in to bed uuuuugh)

ParticipantFrom carrielyne, since we’re talking about Killian making the choice to not be a villain anymore 🙂
Hook in S3
Lately, I’ve been seeing posts from OUAT confessions or posts on my dash — that heavily criticize Hook’s characterization in S3. Like, that he flipped a switch and is all of the sudden this new person and that some people don’t like who he’s become or just that, they don’t like how quickly he’s changed.
First of all — I just need to say this. If you haven’t seen the real struggle from Hook in trying to do the right thing, if you’ve missed Colin’s exquisite portrayal of a man jaded by 300+ years of revenge but so deeply in the rabbit hole for Emma that he uses her as his compass to his moral centre and struggles with it and the perception others have on him on a daily basis then I don’t know what to tell you.
You know, you never really change until you find that moment where you are given the opportunity and you just take it because you want it. After my mom passed away I went through a tailspin and I was an awful person. I did some awful things to people I care about, I was just so lost. And I didn’t find my way out of that until I met my fiance. He gave me a sympathetic ear and support and friendship when I felt like I had no one. And I woke up one morning going you know what, I’m better than this and I want to be more than what I’m letting myself become. And I did it. I made a choice.
That is the exact thing that happened to Hook. You saw glimpses of his softer side but he had to hit rock bottom before he could truly start to realize what he wanted. He had already been looking at this life like wtf was he doing. Hook was an awful villain. None of his plans ever worked out…LOL…and that’s by design. And when Emma gave him a chance, it struck a chord. He made a choice.
When he said “Maybe I just needed reminding that I could” to Emma. He was saying so much more. He was saying that he cares about her and the town and he’s making a choice to choose hope of love and a family over anger and revenge. Which is one of the MAIN themes of OUAT. And he does struggle with it — backing off from Emma was the hardest choice for him, which is why we saw him drinking constantly and trying to put her out of his mind. He couldn’t even accept a toast comfortably from David b/c he loathes himself so much he doesn’t feel he deserves it. And we won’t even discuss the echo caves. Even the initial decision to come back with the bean was a struggle b/c he actually LEFT with it and had to turn around.
Again, he just made a choice. He didn’t flip a switch. He just chose the honorable path, wherever that may lead him. He will continue to struggle, I expect him to mess up here and there on his path to redemption but the fact is, he was never meant to remain a villain and it’s exciting to watch him do a balancing act between being a pirate but also a hero. And yes, Emma is the motivation. And that’s okay — b/c through caring for and changing for her, he’s developing some bonds with people and those bonds carry him through a year without Emma and ultimately right back to her door. He’s lost none of his sass or bravado, he’s just living for love now instead of revenge. And that’s a beautiful thing.

ParticipantI agree, I think Killian would have done everything possible to help Bae if he had decided to stay. Yeah, I don’t buy giving her up for the greater good either. If he truly loved her he would have supported her and helped break the curse; him being from there would have helped her in learning the truth. And he would have been there for his son. It would have been more impressive if he would have given up running from his father for the “greater good” of breaking the curse with Emma.
I agree, Snow needs to be more of friend now to Emma.

I agree! Welcome to the thread, Arianne Grace! I am also a former Swanfire shipper. I started to lean toward CS at the end of Season 2, but I became fully convinced that I wanted them to be endgame by the time “Lost Girl” came around. They are quite a fun couple to watch, I must say! 🙂
Speaking of “Lost Girl”, I have two favorite moments. One was the “Perhaps I would,” which I think most people here would agree was pretty great! But I also appreciated the way that Hook commented on Emma’s patience. He said, “Excellent show of patience, love. And that’s how you defeat a nasty little boy.” I love how he points out when she does things well and when he gives her genuine compliments, because I don’t think she gets complimented a lot. She definitely deserves to hear affirming words from someone and Hook is the perfect “someone” to do that! 🙂

See, what I find soooooooooooooooo interesting about this (and not at all surprising lol) is that:
- The curse was broken by TLK
- Adam said that “terrible things would have happened” if Neal brought Emma to SB
- i.e. the curse wouldn’t be broken
- i.e. Swanfire aren’t TL
So yeah, the fact that if Neal and Emma staying together would have been a bad thing… yeah, just says a lot.
Lol.
It was also partly about cowardice, because he didn’t want to face his father again. When August first approached him and said he’d have to leave Emma he was like “no way!” and as soon as August told him about saving the fairytale folk it was like “ok i’ll leave”. The FIRST THING Neal says to Emma (well after “Emma?.. what are you doing here?”) in Manhattan was “YOU BROUGHT HIM TO ME WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT????”
The first thing.
After being apart for 11 years.
Yeah. That’s ~true love~ alright.
(lol no it’s not)
Sorry kinda feeling sassy/snarky today if you guys want me to stop talking feel free to tell me to stop haha!!!!
But yeah, anyway, point is, Neal’s character arc is mainly about Rumple.

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I absolutely LOVE that song! It’s by The Civil Wars, which is one of my favorite bands EVER (even though they’ve broken up). Anyway, please keep the CS videos coming! I need something to get me through this hiatus!
