ParticipantSince almost all I can see on my dash is you defending Captain Swan I thought you might want to read this argument 🙂 ‘Friendly reminder that we have only heard Emma say she loves someone seven times, and five of those were to (or about) Neal. The other two were to Henry.’ I think love here is misunderstood as being in love. Btw: I love your blog and all your arguments 🙂 -sophieingelare
Well, by that argument then, she doesn’t love her parents. I mean, come on. Yeah, she said she loves Neal, and? For the eighty billionth time, loving someone isn’t the same as being IN LOVE with someone.
I’d also point out that the times she actually said the exact words I love you to Neal were a) IN THE PAST, which doesn’t count in the present and b) WHEN SHE THOUGHT HE WAS DYING. Like. Emma says things in life or death situations that she doesn’t always adhere to when the smoke clears. ”Mom? Dad?” anyone?
On top of that, the only other times she’s made mention to this love she has for Neal thing, she’s been sobbing uncontrollably and miserable about admitting it. It is not romantic to say you’ll always love someone, but that you honestly wish that they were dead. That’s not romance. That’s tragedy.
She doesn’t HAVE to say “I love you” for her feelings to ring out. Emma’s a physical person. How she feels about someone isn’t always going to be said. Look how long it took her to admit that she loved Henry, to say the words. I’m sorry if some people can only go by what they hear, but me? I go by what I see. And they’ve had a hundred and twelve opportunities to show me that Emma in the present feels the things for Neal that she feels for Hook. And they haven’t shown me. Because she’s only “felt good” enough around one of them to kiss the heck out of him.
And that says a whole lot more to me than some “I love you” said when she thought the guy was dying.

ParticipantWay back on season one, in episode 13, “What Happened to Frederick,” Prince Charming went on a quest to get some water from Lake Nostos. Lake Nostos was guarded by a siren. The siren herself, could trap and kill anyone who ventured into the lake by transforming herself into anyone.
When Charming confronted her, she changed into Snow and tempted Charming but he resisted.
He said:
“No. I don’t want an illusion. I want a reality or nothing.”
This line reminded me of Regina’s gift to Emma in the winter finale. Emma and Henry will have always been together, their future will be real but their past, their memories won’t be.
In a sense, it’s similar to what Charming realized when he faced the siren. An illusion, however powerful it is, it isn’t a real, a true happy ending.
And I think that’s why Hook came back for her because he realized, Emma’s happy with Henry but their life, it isn’t real. Their memories are an illusion. It’s fake. And because he loves Emma so much and knows what she is, the epitome of true love, he realized that she deserves better than that.

ParticipantFriendly reminder that, as said by both Jennifer Morrison AND Colin O’Donoghue, Hook was introduced and written into the show, specifically, to be a love interest for Emma
He hasn’t been reduced to anything. His role in the story has always been the one that you’re seeing play out onscreen. He’s been meant to be for Emma since Day One. Refute it all you want, but the facts are there. JMo knew when they hired Colin and MRJ that those two were meant to be love interests for Emma. Colin said he thinks that “most fans” (HIS WORDS) have been waiting for CS from his first episode.
I mean I’m sorry, but I fail to see how being the romantic lead on a show (because that’s what EMMA SWAN’S LOVE INTEREST IS) is somehow “reducing” his character. That’s a bloody gold mine in terms of longevity on a series.
Charming isn’t reduced because of his love for Snow, and Hook isn’t either because of his love for Emma.

Participant@obisgirl – yep totally agree. Even Emma said “But it won’t be real”.
The fabulous thing about what the writers did there, is that they will have helped to erase some of Emma’s pain. Even though her memories of raising Henry won’t be real, she’ll still have them, and will still know what life with him was like. And plus they have one whole REAL and HAPPY year together and it’s just amazing, because she’ll come out of that very changed, I think. I would imagine at least half of her emotional pain was as a direct result of having to give Henry up. And again, because she’ll know what her life would have been like had she kept him, so too will some of her pain towards Neal disappear. I don’t think it’s a good thing romantically for SF, but I do think it will help Emma IMMENSELY in the process of forgiving him for his actions. And in turn, that will also help Emma open up more to Killian.
(making myself cry here I love Emma THAT much omg)

i agree, Regina really did a lot for Emma giving her a happy ten plus years with Henry. Even if they weren’t real I think being able to feel like she’s in a good place with Henry especially after a real year of being happy together will help her open her heart to Hook more. I remember Adam saying romance would have to be on the back burner for Emma while she was trying to learn to be a mother. In a way that has been fixed for her and it’ll allow for what every Captain Swan shipper wants, a mirror image of the first part of 3A, which had Hook accepting his feelings for Emma now we can see Emma accepting her feelings for Killian 🙂

EXACTLY because as we know, she is already head over heels for him, she just hasn’t allowed herself to fully realise the depth of those feelings. I’m soooooooo excited for 3B, we’re gunna be seeing some pretty significant character growth for Emma 🙂
