You and us both. This is seriously a long dry spell compared to how spoiled (ha!) we’ve been with spoilers lately. They’re filming interiors, but hopefully they’ll be poking their noses outside soon lol.

Great camera angle analysis here:
I really love this scene and I want to talk about it.
This is so beautiful because of how they utilized camera angles.
Here we have the camera tilting from side to side. First, Emma is in the higher part of the shot, and then Hook. Most people wouldn’t even think about this because they are below deck on a boat. It’s a perfectly justified stylistic choice.
But here’s the thing. Camera tilts don’t just happen. They are deliberate and painstakingly planned (college video projects notwithstanding).
Camera tilts are something that a good director uses to show one of two things. Both of those things are actually in this shot.
1. Something is not quite right (approaching mermaid attack).
2. The person higher up in the shot, literally angled above someone else, holds power over the person lower in the shot (Hook and Emma).
Emma starts out at the top of the frame. Hook already has some feelings for her and they have been mentioned via Cora a few times with “you chose her” and “I think he may care for you.” On top of the emotional aspect Hook is the one who approaches Emma in this scene and she initially just isn’t having it because she’s just lost her son.
What’s interesting is that by the end of the scene Hook is on top on the frame. He’s managed to get Emma to sit down and listen to him and share a drink in the midst of all the chaos. He takes the upper part of the shot after he’s given Neal’s old cutlass to Emma.
This action and his kind, supportive words force Emma to look at him differently. This is the first time she is realizing she might have feelings for him too. By this I mean real feelings, not just a latent sexual attraction. This is the moment where she starts to see him for the man that he is. If she has felt anything emotional for Hook before now (I’d personally argue yes) then she has repressed it pretty well. This moment forces her to acknowledge her feelings.
The scene is so emotionally charged that the two had to get interrupted by a freaking mermaid attack just so they wouldn’t bang on the way to the island.
