Yeah it is but it’s a very ship heavy thought. When I came up with my very accurate theory of the finale I kept it here because of that even though it was basically 100% dead on. When you post a theory like that it comes off like you’re rooting for Neal’s death.
I agree. I think that ship focused thoughts/theories should stay in their ship threads. Here’s the thing, every character has fans and one of the fan base is going to be really disappointed. I don’t see a reason to fan any flames of shipping wars or character hate. To be honest, since I think Hook is in for the long haul, I think we should be gracious.
i am not worried. I think working on OUAT is a good thing for actors. Think about it Abigail, Blue, Tink, Red, Graham, Nova, Hatter, Aurora and Mulan got other series and projects since joining Once. The casting department has a great eye for talent.
Keeper of Hook and Emma's smoldering first kiss, a certain Pirate's sauciness, the Evil Queen's snarkiness, Grumpy's gruffness and a drop of true love to make it all go down smooth.

ParticipantJust caught up… I’m dismayed to say the least. Very slightly worried – but I think that’s just initial panic. Ew.

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on this, I’m feeling better now about the spoiler after reading around on it, seeing different things. Using funny gifs to get passed the initial strain. I really don’t understand them releasing this particular type of spoiler now. All it’s done is drive our whole fandom into a frenzy!

ParticipantOk.
I have been thinking about this from a (hopefully) unbiased, logical and realistic perspective.
So, from the PA’s perspective, someone is unhappy on the show.
This is not Colin. Every time Colin talks about his character, you can see that he loves Hook. His enthusiasm for Hook’s storyline shines out of his eyes in every interview. Colin is a very easygoing, down to earth guy according to the PA. He’s always messing around with the cast. To me, this doesn’t indicate unhappiness – this sounds like someone who comes to work every day looking forward to the day. Colin enjoys playing Hook, and has said he hopes to stay on the show as long as the fans want him.
From a financial perspective. the economy is VERY poor here in Ireland – a full time acting gig is like finding a needle in a haystack. No way would Colin just decide to up stakes to Vancouver from his HOME, move his wife and son, and then give up a full time job in a show because he’s unhappy. Nope. Can’t see it. Even if he IS unhappy (doubtful) he still has his family to think of.
In comparison, Neal has been a complete plot device this season, driving the plot while barely even DOING anything. I could see why MRJ would be unhappy with this. He has nearly completely withdrawn from his fans. The last interview he got as far as i’m aware was one where he said that “Emma doesn’t owe Neal anything”.
So as far as i’m concerned Colin can be scratched off the list for this, and MRJ is a big contender.
From Adam’s perspective, the death has been planned and it isn’t because someone is unhappy.
If this is the case, and it’s Colin leaving, the INTENSE promotion of Captain Hook and Captain Swan has all been for nothing. I just can’t see that they would do that. It would literally ALIENATE an audience to pull the rug out from under them like that. To be honest I watch the show these days mostly because of CS – i’m THAT emotionally invested in them. That and the plot holes and deus ex machina in the show annoy me a lot. Anyway, i’m pretty sure they would lose a large CHUNK of their audience. The fanbase for Hook is huge. For instance Nasty Habits – a predominantly Neal episode – the promotion for that only got 35k likes on FB. And Good Form – a predominantly Hook episode – got 125k likes. That is a HUGE difference.
“But Hook has no ties to the rest of the characters, Hook is going to be a hero and sacrifice himself!”
No lol. For one thing his Happy Ending is very closely tied to Emma – that was shown in 3×01. The show is all about hope and redemption – and most of the relationships that are focused on in the show are those of the villains. Anyway, Hook is tied to Emma and to a lesser extent Charming. Not at all to the rest of them.
The lack of ties to the rest of the characters make it EVEN LESS LIKELY that Hook is the one who dies. Because when you kill off a major character?? You want it to have the BIGGEST EMOTIONAL EFFECT on the characters as possible. You want it to drive the plot forward. And honestly, while Emma and Charming would both feel terrible at the death of Hook, it would have NO RAMIFICATIONS TO THEIR STORYLINES (except that obviously from my perspective Emma wouldn’t get her happy ending lol). It would resolve NOTHING between Emma and Neal. Emma will still have the wall of pain there. Hook dying literally serves NO purpose. If they wanted to use it to resolve the triangle that SFers are so convinced exists? Then a better way to do it would be to just have Hook sail off into the sunset, to chose “not to steal Neal’s girl”. That way you haven’t alienated the huge fanbase that is the Hookers, and there is still hope that Hook would return.
Neal however. Most fans have NO EMOTIONAL CONNECTION to Neal. They haven’t helped that this season – no focus is placed on his emotional reaction to ANYTHING. He’s been pretty darn useless most of the time. He didn’t get any real promotion with regards to “the triangle”. MRJ has withdrawn from his fans – it could be because he’s unhappy with the hatred, or it could be because he was told to do so.
HOWEVER, Neal has a lot of ties with the rest of the characters. The death of Neal would affect Rumple, Belle, Hook, Emma, Henry, by extension Regina, by extension Robin Hood. It would have HUGE ramifications for the storyline, while also keeping most of the fanbase intact and happy(sorry if any SFers are reading this).
So honestly, logically, Neal is the only one that makes sense to me.

ParticipantOk I feel better now Eala, thanks. All of what you’re saying makes sense to me. I agree that Colin seems to be very happy with his work on Once and would be unlikely to leave due to that reason.
Great point about Hook having no ties to anyone but Emma and Charming and being LESS likely to be killed off. It makes logical sense to me too – the death of a major character should matter AND it should also drive the plot forward because otherwise it’s pointless. 🙂
Poor Neal though.
