I spent many years in Neverland, home of the lost boys. They all share the same look in their eyes – the look you get when you’ve been left alone.
I hadn’t thought of this but remember in Lost Girl when Snow asked Emma why she stopped fighting that Lost Boy? She instantly recognized the look in his eyes because she had the same look. I remember we all thought Killian was abandoned too and that’s why he knew Emma was an orphan. He recognized that look because like Emma he had it too.

Oh, here we go. I know I should leave well enough alone and I have no intention to start a war but really, someone’s gotta point out to the people that go on incessantly in chat about how he’s never done something unselfish need to be shown the other side of things.
Do they not REALIZE that Hook’s “I’m not doing it for you mate” comment to Charming in 3×5 was a JOKE? To break the tension! And his “eliciting a kiss” from Emma was a JOKE! To break the tension! That he expected her to kick him in his manly bits not to actually GET kissed?? How is this not obvious?! You can save someone’s life and it can be because 1) you don’t want him to die and 2) because you care about their daughter – and have it be unselfish.

Hook is a hero. That was the point of the whole Neverland arc, that he was a hero in a villains’ body and all he needed, like Regina, was for someone to give him a chance to be that person.
And the whole point of ‘Good Form’ was to show before he was this pirate and even Hook, he was a good man who believed in doing the honorable and good thing. And after kissing Emma and later admitting that she’s helped him move on, Emma’s brought out the best version of himself; he is choosing to be good because he wants to be; not only for Emma but for himself.
He’s done with his revenge. He’s moved on. and he’s been able to do both because of Emma.
Haters are going to continue believing what they too because it’s easier for them to hate Hook, then to see he’s not the villain anymore. But we know the truth. He is the hero now.

I know, it just aggravates me. I want EVERY character to be complex. I love that EVERY character has good and bad. To me, OUAT has always been about taking the two ends of a spectrum and showing that reality – even for fairy tale characters – lies somewhere in between.
And I DON’T HATE NEAL!! I think that one makes me the most upset – the assumption that because I like Emma and Hook’s relationship more, I hate Neal. I don’t. I just…want the chemistry that CS has. I don’t automatically assume that RumBelle fans hate Regina, or that SF fans hate Hook…that’s silliness and just does such a disservice to the show. Looking between the lines and under the layers of what we’re being shown is the best part of the show. And I am super upset, frankly, by the fact that they’ve done practically nothing WITH Neal. So much potential there. And MRJ can bring it. His character in True Blood was one of the few ever that has truly knocked me through a loop.
I hate those generalizations too. I’m probably the minority here who doesn’t like him but I feel like sometimes I could like him if he weren’t hurting Emma a lot.
I agree about the spectrum thing. Unless, a villain is Peter Pan, who we all saw in 3A was flat out evil, in general, with the villains we’ve seen Rumple, Regina, Hook, they didn’t start out evil. Something made them become that way.
“Evil isn’t born, dearie; it’s made.” And that’s been very true with the three I mentioned.
Also remember that PA tweeted how sweet and down to earth Colin was – which hopefully points to him NOT being the one she was talking about in her other tweets.

The war’s already started 😛 I had to jump all over that when I saw it. Off the top of my head just from blind fury I thought of three instances where he was unselfish. First of all if you want to even take his “I didn’t do it for you mate” thing not for what it was a joke then the only other reason he did that was for Emma. That’s no secret he did it FOR Emma the woman he loves. The person who brought him out of his 200 year hunt of revenge that rotted his heart. What a SELFISH jerk ensuring her happiness like that?! A downright scoundrel making sure Emma wouldn’t lose her father!
I love the other one too it’s even more ridiculous. I don’t know how anyone wants to make the case that Hook coaxed a kiss out of Emma. Inconceivable! He did what he always does, flirt with her throw a little game her way just to make her smile. Again what a selfish jerk! She finds out she nearly lost her father and he tried to make her smile! What a MONSTER! Then because SHE wanted to Emma kissed him. He wasn’t expecting that at all but he was sure happy about it. So was she by the way they can hang on to her deflections all they want but the look on her face tells the true story. Out of breathe, smiling after his ‘As You Wish,” trying to gossip with her mom right after (If it was nothing we wouldn’t be talking about it). All these feeling culminating in their goodbye in the finale (not to mention Emma’s hint of jealousy at Hook and Tink). That kiss did mean something to both of them, Killian is sure of his feelings now. Emma will come to terms with hers in the next part 🙂
