ParticipantHi. For anybody who is interested, I have questions about Captain Hook.
Admittedly, I’m in the “CaptainSwan” brigade. I’ve been thinking hard about why, and I have come to conclusions some people may, or may not like.
* Loyalty
-Is Hook loyal to Milah, or is he loyal to his own anger and resentment over what was taken from him when Rumple killed Milah? Is he loyoal to his love, or is he loyal to his thirst for revenge; for revenge; for victory and the last word? What’s more powerful within him? His love for Milah, his openness to love for others, or only his self interest??* Looks
-Ok, so Hook is eye-candy. He still would be no matter who it would be playing his part, but Colin O’Donoghue is good a good looking guy, so the girls go wild…but….is beauty only skin-deep?*History
-Can he change his stripes and be an honest guy for Emma? Can he stop being a pirate, and walk a strait line like David? There’s definitely the potential for him to be that guy, but what part of him has the louder voice? The good part, or the bad part? This will mean no more revenge, and no more being a pirate (traditionally, pirates are theives and liars, but I’ve seen neither in Hook yet).Then, there’s the biggest concern:
* Empathy
-Emma’s been through hell in her life. She needs a man who will not only love her, and fight for her, but someone who can identify with her. She needs someone who can empathize with her. Is Captain Hook capable of empathy? He has a code of honor, but that only comes back to himself, not because of his feelings for anybody else’s pain. I’m worried about whether he can identify with Emma’s, Henry’s, anyone else’s, or if he’d be too preoccupied with himself to react appropriately to the needs and feelings of others.I guess my question is summed up with this: Is Captain Hook a bad guy? With potential, yes, but at the end of the day, a bad person?

ParticipantWill Hook ever get over Milah? Can he ever get over his pain of losing her or has he become so accustomed to it that he is afraid to let go? Will Milah be the ghost in Hook’s and Emma’s relationship? Can Emma ever compare to Milah in Hook’s eyes or will she always be second best?
All magic comes with a price!

my mom thought that she would help and add more detail, but I was really going for the metaphor than the detail. 😆 😆
that’s so cute! 😆 I love this symbol though, it’s like if the creators of the show didn’t want us to ship these two creatures then they shouldn’t have made characters who’s symbols join to make a heart shape! 😆

KeymasterSo, I don’t personally ship CaptainSwan (though I do look forward to it happening, as I think it will) but as moderator I have to look in on all the forums to make sure nothing bad is happening, and I just wanted to say: Obisgirl, that drawing is ridiculously adorable.

Participantand very good questions ToothFairy & PriceofMagic! 🙂
hopefully one of the shipmates can answer these in depth soon, I’ll just quickly say that Hook definitely has the capacity to change and put his revenge aside, although he won’t ever be Rumple’s biggest fan, the man lost his bloody hand! 😆
As we’ve seen, when he is around Emma, he is a different version of himself, lighter, playful and happy even. Hopefully he will realise this, and then a part of him would want to change, and move away from the darkness and thirst for revenge, and/or maybe he’ll realise that revenge won’t really bring him happiness anywayA man unwilling to fight for what he wants deserves what he gets; Hook is a fighter and he fights for what he wants, and hopefully we will get the chance to see him fight for that Swan girl 🙂
now I need to go start my other less inspiring, soul-sucking essay for uni 🙁

ParticipantI assume Hook would change a lot to be with Emma. Not so much he loses what makes him interesting. I don’t want a “mini-David” any more than Emma should be Snow.
With that in mind–my reaction to your questions Toothfairy:Loyalty— Love motivates Hook, not just anger. If he only cared about vengeance, he would have burned Milah’s shawl so Rumpel’s desire to find his son would be thwarted.
Looks–There is nothing wrong in digging the eye candy, as long as that is not the ONLY thing a character has going on. They’ve given Hook some inner conflict and a sly intelligence. I loved his interactions with Cora. He has great banter too (though I could do without some of the over-the-top cheesy “hook” up lines).
History— He does not enjoy killing in and of itself. He lies and uses deceit to help him get what he wants without needing force, but he is ready to fight if it comes to that. Yes, he has been willing to kill, even murder (his words about the journey to wonderland), but only as necessary to getting his vengeance. He limited his collateral damage when he could and seemed to feel conflicted when he couldn’t. So I don’t think there’s much in his history that would prevent him from being believed if he turned a new leaf and hung up the hook.
Empathy. There was that subtle scene with him kicking fish guy into the water after Cora transformed the fisherman. Then what he said about rescuing the falling heart. He could show more, sure, but he was used in a fairly limited portion of the story so far. We’ll get more, I’m sure.
To Price of Magic: Hook doesn’t have to forget her, but I see it parallel to the story of Superman. His first love was Lana Lang, but when he became more than just “Clark Kent” he found Lois Lane who loved him for more than being the boy next door (at least in some versions of that story). Milah loved Killian Jones, the pirate. Emma could fall in love with the man as he is now, after living so many years in Neverland and all he has been through. He’d be a different person (but still sassy).

ParticipantOMG!!! 😮 😯 I didn’t even think about the Clois parallel there. And I’m listening to some music from Smallville now.
Thanks all for the compliments. I’m contemplating possibly tweeting Colin the drawing.

ParticipantYou could take the cute drawing and blend into the background of your banner 😛
