Keeper of Captain Swan's first kiss
Guys, do you think that A&E automatically assumed that everyone would love Neal? Because of Baelfire. I’m just wondering, I’ve seen some arguments indicating that.
If the CSF thread were still around, I would have loved to ask SF fans this question because I’ve always felt anyway, most SwanFire fans love Neal because he is Baelfire and Rumple’s son. I love Rumple too and I love Baelfire, he was a great kid but it’s often difficult for me to reconcile that sweet kid with the adult Neal because they feel like two different characters sometimes.
It is interesting while they were filming season 2 of Once, that Adam and Eddie were actually considering making Neal and Bae two different characters. I think that would have been interesting to see. I doubt many people would have liked Neal if he were a different person separate from Baelfire. That Neal would just be seen as that guy who screwed Emma over.
Tallahassee’s a great episode because we saw teenage Emma falling in love and then lost that love, and essentially, realize it was a very traumatic experience for her. I think even Jane Espenson said or one of the other lady writers said, that you’re supposed to root for Captain Swan after that episode. Not SwanFire.
But again, you can’t tell someone how to ‘ship a ‘ship. People are going to ‘ship whatever with whomever, even if it doesn’t make sense.

This is cool. I know Colin is busy, but I do wish he would say Happy Valentines Day to his fans like last year. Granted he had a broken leg at the time, and wasn’t filming, though. Oh, well. We have a lot to look forward to in March.

Guys, do you think that A&E automatically assumed that everyone would love Neal? Because of Baelfire. I’m just wondering, I’ve seen some arguments indicating that.
Actually, I do believe there’s some truth to that. I think in part, it is a bit of excellent casting and lazy writing. It’s my understanding they approached MRJ for the role of Neal. If he auditioned, I believe it was amongst a very small group of people. And I’m sure he isn’t just being paid scale. He’s resume’s more impressive than some of the other leads. Often when you have a kid and adult playing the same part, you see the kid in flashbacks, and the adult is the main portrayer. In this situation, MRJ had to start with an already established, beloved character, and someone else’s take on that character. That’s not an easy thing to do, but MRJ definitely has the skills to do it, which I believe A&E realize. (If you’ve never seen True Blood S1 when he was on it, check it out. Seriously he’s one of the few actors that actually shocked me with the big reveal.) But you need a little something to work with. The writing has to be there and it just isn’t. Where’s the scene that shows how he lost that youthful innocence? Was it NL? Was it his return to the Land W/O Magic? Both? Where was he in the 11 years after he let Emma go? I definitely need more to understand how he actually loved Tamara but then days later, said he loved Emma, then fell through a portal, almost died at the hands of girl#1, and…there’s no mention of it? Yet he’s “never going to stop fighting” for Emma? HUH?!
On the other hand, I do know Colin had to audition – haha I remember an interview Eddy gave when he said his wife informed him he was to ‘(expletive) hire that guy’ when she saw his audition tape. And he does a great job with the role – I mean, really, it takes a lot to make a leather clad adult pirate with a hook believable!! But they also give him a lot to work with. He’s had centrics. He’s had exposition.
So I do understand how SFers can get frustrated. I’m frustrated. Don’t get me wrong, I love Hook (CE, don’t hate me, I just might like him more than Emma! 🙂 ) but Neal has definitely not been given his due when it comes to exposition and screentime. I am of the opinion that the reason we haven’t seen him and Rumple and maybe even Emilie is not because they’re not filming. There could be a plethora of other reasons – they’re in the studio, they’re at a different location (shows do have the ability of shooting on location without fans knowing or getting as close as they get when they’re filming in Steveston) and I think it’s conscious effort on the part of the show to keep those pics and spoilers at bay. They could also be filming out of order due to scheduling conflicts, and just not being obvious about it. So I do hope they give him his due in S3B. I, for one, am really looking forward to it. Along with lots ‘o’ Emma and Hook bonding time!! And toss some Henry and Hook bonding time in too! 🙂
It would be so ridiculous today of all days to start a ‘shipper fight.
It’s Valentine’s Day.
It’s a day all about love and sharing the love. And all of the characters on Once deserve love. Doesn’t matter if he or she is a villain or a hero, one thing they all have in common is love.
So, I hope the haters think twice before starting fights. But I really hope there isn’t a Valentine’s Day massacre today.
Happy Valentine’s Day CS’ers!! I was actually busy late last night making Once themed Valentine’s Day cards in Photoshop and then before going to bed, I thought of more tacky, silly messages I could use. I love how we keep finding things to analyze about Hook’s love confession in Ariel. Here’s another one.
Here’s how I see it. IF Emma was in love with Neal than she would have no reason to look back at Killian before walking across the bridge in Echo Cave. She would have walked as fast as she could to Neal. She would have been so excited to see him. Emma would have never tried to use the sword on the cage. The first thing she would have done was confess her pain to be reunited with Neal. SHE DID NONE OF THAT! Emma looked back at Killian to see his face. She needed to see his reaction. He had just confessed his feelings for her and she was about to tell a secret that would free her from the emotions of her past relationship with Neal. Emma needed a bit of strength to move her forward. She needed to look at his face to remind her the reveal of her secret would lead to happiness. Happiness that was waiting on the other side of that bridge. All she needed to do was confront her past. Emma walking towards Neal is representation of her taking control of her pain and taking it head on. She walks into to scared but free. The confession may free Neal from the cage but her words free her from the burden she has felt all those years. Their hug was a good-bye hug of the past selves. That moment is the end of what was, is and would ever be. Emma set herself free. We didn’t see the walk back to Killian because we will see it now in 3B. We will witness first hand via the episodes and interaction Emma’s walk into happiness towards Killian. It will be a well paced and beautiful process. One that we get to see step by step. [x]
I honestly feel, when she looked back at Hook in that instant before walking over the bridge, is when Emma solidified her realization what she DID honestly want to move on from Neal- completely & that she wished he was dead, so she wouldnt have to the face the pain he caused her yet again.
I think as she looked back at Hook to gather her strength to face Neal, she realized what she felt when they kissed was ‘real/ true’ & he felt it too (due to his secret creating part of the bridge), that the feelings she had/has around him could also maybe GO somewhere/someplace happy, so in those moments in the cave, she came to the conclusion that she could truly move on & in fact letting go of that long past (& toxic for her) 1st love, is the best thing for her personally if she wants a shot at true happiness again.

Honestly, I’m not shocked he’s taking a “twitter break” right now. Stelio and some of the others here can give you a better idea of what’s been going on but in the past few weeks, Colin’s been the victim of a particularly scary person…fans keep reporting her and the handle gets blocked but she starts up with another. She’s done it to others in the OUAT cast, and I’m sure other famous people too. I’m not talking whiny ‘shippers or people threatening to stop watching if nonsense, or even the pure bullying, this person is seriously very mentally unstable. It’s scary reading the tweets she posts on their accounts. Once she moves on to the next person to harass, maybe he’ll post a little more. Seriously, I don’t know how any of them participate in social media sometimes.
