Oh wow! Great point, SK. It never occurred to me that CS is the ONE romantic couple that has played out in “real time” on the show. I mean, I guess I always knew it but never really thought about it that way. It’s just another thing that solidifies to me that CS are supposed to be THE big True Love couple on the show – that they would want to show the entire relationship develop from the very beginning. And interesting how we got back story on Hook before we got any interaction with Hook and Emma together. I mean they obviously had to introduce him so the audience would already know he was Hook when she found him, but they were already establishing a soft spot for him from the beginning – that he became Captain Hook because of losing Milah, even though he wasn’t squeaky clean at that time. So we were NEVER supposed to think of Hook as a villain in the way that we thought of Rumple and Regina as villains – we had much more time to see them being evil before we got their back stories. We were really supposed to focus on the fact that Hook had spent 300 years plotting revenge on Rumple for killing the woman he loved – the entire time we knew Hook was Hook because he lost someone he loved. Then we got even MORE backstory on him that showed that he once was INCREDIBLY squeaky clean. His story has really been handled totally differently from Rumple’s and Regina’s.

So much awesome stuff today guys. And the View even let them sit together! LOVE how into the show Whoopi is (which makes sense since she’s Mrs. Rabbit on OUAT in Wonderland but still, having someone doing the interviewing that knows what’s going on and is enthusiastic about it? AWESOME!)
The interviews were great albeit short. Not tons of new stuff (but yay for new clips, more on that shortly). I mostly just love how awesome this cast is and how well they get along with each other! Plus bonus points for Daddy!Charming feels since Josh & JMO are so close!
Clip Stuff: Where to Begin?
Emma’s in LEATHER….after getting upset that a leather-clad stranger came to her apartment and tried to kiss her….cause that makes sense. Subtle job there costuming, we’re not associating them AT ALL…hahahaha, who am I kidding? It’s like some part of Emma is drawn to him and remembers but her head just can’t add it all up because as Hook said, Regina did a number on her.
Speaking of Regina’s false memories for Emma…a fire? Sure it’s an easy way to explain her lack of things but it’s also very interesting given that the reason her life was screwed up before were because of things outside of her control (like a fire) and were actually caused by Neal aka Baelfire. Very fitting that a fire destroyed her life and made her pick up and move elsewhere once again, even in her cursed memory state. It’s convenient but so are a lot of other things. They could have given her any memories since they gave her fake ones about having kept Henry alllll this time….and they gave her Boston until last year when a fire destroyed everything (when in reality Regina knows that Emma lived all over the place and Boston was just the last place she was before SB. Gooooo figure. How nice of Regina to put Emma in a city where Hook can send her (unknowingly) to Neal’s old place which will cause her to find photographic evidence that maybe Hook’s not lying – EVERYTHING revolves around what Hook is saying and doing and Neal’s apartment only serves to upset Emma, make her worry that Neal wants in Henry’s life, and makes her curious enough about the pictures that might prove what the crazy leather guy is saying. IT IS ALL ABOUT HOOK and her connection to HIM that will make her remember and the apartment / dreamcatcher etc are just tools to get us there.
Hook’s “You just don’t remember” reminds me a lot of S1 Henry describing the inhabitants of SB and saying “they just don’t remember who they are.” *FEELS* I mean, I’m sure we’ll have a LOT of Pilot/S1 feels anyway but this stuck out for me. And then there’s the talk of being able to show her who she is and who her family is – to answer the questions he KNOWS she has always had. The things that Neal *explained* he wanted for her and in a roundabout way succeeded in getting for her, but she had no clue that was the “mission” – she was just left to fend for herself until her son came and found her. *Expecting a lot of Hook & Henry S1 parallels for sure* I love the fact that Hook tells Emma what’s going on and brings her around (with a lot of persistence (which JMO has always said is SUPER IMPORTANT when dealing with Emma in anything including romance…) to make the choice rather than just does stuff for her like everyone else seems to be doing including Snowing (again) and Neal (again). It’s going to be one of the more frustrating points if Emma is indeed keeping Henry in the dark but it will be another Snow/Emma bonding thing I’m sure…plus make Henry resentful just like Emma was and help him run back to Regina once he does get his memories back…..reverse S1 parallel in people lying to him and making him think he’s crazy? Looks like a check mark on that as well.
Parental vs Couple relationships:
There’s a fine line in a lot of this stuff. I hate when anybody makes a choice for someone else especially on something big and life-changing. They’re going to resent it and it’s going to cause drama. Some characters, like Emma end up being hypocritical even though their hearts are in the right place. I love how grey things are in this show where you can see why someone wants to do something even if it’s not what the other one would appreciate when they find out (which they will of course). When it comes down to the TYPE of relationship however, this is a much bigger line that I draw.
It’s not easy watching Regina lie to Henry, or Snowing send Emma away (or letting her stay away with fake memories), or the potential that Emma will keep Henry in the dark about his real life, but as hard as that is to see, there is a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE when it comes to COUPLES.
Parents are supposed to take care of their children and try to do what’s best for them. Sometimes their way of doing that is a bit more twisted than others and I’m not defending every choice made for sure. But couples? Couples are supposed to be EQUALS. To work as a TEAM. To not make choices for the other person but to work it out together.
This is one of the things I love SO MUCH about CaptainSwan because they are consistently shown AS A TEAM (and it was even pointed out in the dialogue wayyyy back when that they make a great team). They talk things out, they defer to each other when it makes sense to do so etc. etc. It’s beautiful watching how much faith Hook has in her and now without her memories, how much he’s going to have to fight to get her to believe in him again. WE know she does and from what we’ve seen so far she’s still drawn to him enough to put up with it, stand close to him, take little bits of what he’s saying to heart until it’s just too many things to ignore and eventually “take a leap of faith” and drink the potion. That hug is going to be incredible and I can’t wait!

Totally agree with you!! I love the leather dress idea – so darn cute! I noticed that in the promo pics and freaked out. Plus it’s BLACK leather, her pirates signature color.
I don’t want to read too much into the wording of things but since the SF folks are rejoicing over it I guess I’ll go with it – I do think it’s interesting that Emma had to “bale” on her Boston apartment because of a fire. But am I missing something? She says that a year ago a fire DESTROYED her apartment and they moved to New York. I don’t undersand the SF rejoicing. If anything I see that Emma’s life was going along just fine and then Neal showed up and destroyed it – just like Emma told Neal she wished he was dead. Like I said, I don’t want to read anything into words that might not really be there but the good SF folks opened that particular can of worms. The move to NYC seemed to be the way to get Emma to be able to remember, not some sentimental type of thing – she didn’t even know Neal lived there. And if you want to follow that logic NYC is also the last place outside of SB in the real world Emma interacted with her pirate – she locked him up in a closet. So she just as easily has memories of Hook in NYC as she does Neal Fire Bagel Persom. Plus she has the shackles she chained Hook up with hanging on her apartment wall so she clearly has SOME kind of memory locked away in her mind of enjoying chaining Hook up. So maybe it’s the memory of locking him up in a closet in NYC that made her want to go there. See I can do that too.
But truthfully, who wouldn’t carry fond memories of chaining that man up. Ooops! Did I say that out loud???

Also, there were some very lovely Q&As in an article posted elsewhere in the forum and one of the things mentioned Hook telling Emma to use her “superpower” to see if he’s lying. !!!!! Major callback to the Pilot with Henry (yay!), as well as Hook on the beanstalk begging her to look at him to see if he’s lying, and on top of that it’s acknowledging something VERY IMPORTANT to her that Neal always puts down – not that she remembers this of course but we do – AND the superpower/lying thing was one of the first things that Emma/Henry talked about and now it’ll be one of the first things that’s mentioned for Hook and Emma round 2! When I saw that I was so excited! SO MANY PILOT FEELS right now I can’t wait! I’m trying to wait to rewatch the pilot closer to 3×12 but….so many feelings!
TOTALLY AGREE on the wording thing. It’s just more and more symbolism that is subtly/not so subtly being shown to us through the dialogue. It’s easy to pick and choose and come up with different meanings for everything that is said so I get that. If we went off JUST dialogue then both sides would win and lose and we’d be back where we started but some things they like to emphasize and/or there’s no other reason for it than to plant an idea in your head.
I love that quite often we see almost the exact same lines used which immediately make you think of the other times it was used – CS does this a lot with Snowing and SF does this a lot with Milah/Rumple for example. Now we have a lot of Hook/Henry in S1 parallels going on as well which is exciting too. The fact that they used fire as the thing that DESTROYED her quiet little life with Henry is one of those things that’s there and could be harmless but these things add up. There are several times where if we were to list out every little thing that makes us believe in CS, many could be crossed off the list as this that or the other….but when you have allllll that other stuff AND these things…well, it makes you feel a lot better about it than before. Whatever works. 🙂 (But I do think it’s awesome symbolism in this particular case so if that’s what they wanted to bring to mind, good job).
Going back to the CS and Snowing lines, we’ve had the similar things between the “You found me” and “Did you ever doubt I would?” and the “Does that surprise you?” (which I really hope we get a version of this after the hug!!! There’s also Hook ALMOST WORD FOR WORD saying the same thing as Charming’s letter to Snow about not a day will go by…and then, well, there’s Emma calling Hook a stalker. Know who else she called stalker? Mary Margaret when she was “stalking” David Nolan. AKA the only part of Cursed!Snowing that was ever positive because MM & David were drawn to each other and knew they were supposed to be together before they let their cursed selves get in the way and screw things up. Now we have Emma wearing leather and letting Hook get to her and being drawn to him and they’re massively paralleling Henry in the pilot and I just…can it be Sunday yet please?? Plus I think there are supposed to be some pretty cute exchanges between Hook and Henry too and one of the screeners said something about Henry playing matchmaker? If Emma and Walsh have been together for 8 months I’m pretty sure Henry doesn’t need to play matchmaker for them so….maybe something he says is good for us? *Taking everything with a grain of salt until we see everything in context but I NEED this episode!*

Oh this thread is my haven! Such awesome posts today! Seriously, you all are crawling in my head, and making my thoughts sound so much more eloquent than they do coming from me! I love checking out the shipping threads too but I have to steer clear the next few days I think. There’s just too much CS to be excited about!
Off topic kind of, but from what I’m gathering, Henry’s going to be in SB before he gets his memories back…so if the residents there know who they are in the EF and SB (which is what I’m getting from the spoilers) Emma’s pretty much going to make sure no one spills the beans to Henry…interesting. I wonder how Regina’s going to handle that…
You know I don’t get the whole “Hook’s redemption storyline is going way too fast”, even from a purely storyline perspective. Why does every villain have to have a long and drawn out redemption arc? I am also hearing that people are hoping that the WWW is going to REMAIN evil because they are tired of all the villains turning “good.” I actually agree, but that’s also why I don’t understand why Hook can’t be a character who literally met his true love, realized that he no longer wanted to be the villain he became, and decided to go back to the person he used to be. His storyline is unique in that he is having to convince people that he is NO LONGER a villain as opposed to one who is struggling with whether he wants to be one or not. Without differing villain storyline this show would get old really fast. That’s why, as horrendous as Pan was, his villain story was unique – he literally had no redemptive qualities at all – even right up until the end, unlike Cora right at her death, he was still evil. Both Emma and Hook are fiercely loyal to their families – unfortunately their definition of “family” has not been traditional because of the events that have unfolded in their lives. They both made choices that have negatively affected their lives because of being “left” by people they loved and considered their family (whether by choice or not). Everyone on this show has their own “path” to a happy ending. Just like in real life, some people “get it” faster than others when they realize they need to turn their life around and make some major changes. Some people are literally able to wake up one day and, cold turkey, realize what they need to do and never look back again. Some people struggle for years and NEVER get there. I don’t see why the show shouldn’t portray anything different.
I was going to say something very similar, with the identical point as your post- but you’ve said it so much better than I could have- wish we had a ‘like’ tab or favorites tab, so we could revisit our fav posts. We have some very onto it people in our thread & I saw a couple of very well thought out posts the couple of times I visited the SF thread.
I actually wouldnt mind reading the SF thread myself (some of those shippers are very articulate people), but I think I’ll leave it until AFTER Season 3 has finished, for obvious reasons 😉
I agree @Jenna_B, with your whole post! The posts today (or yesterday in my case) have been AWESOME to read 😀 I also am dead keen to find out how Regina handles that situation myself (I was actually thinking about that just before watching our CS sneak peek lol).

Ok kids, if you haven’t seen the TVFanatic interview, stop. Go the thread. Watch. I daresay it’s my favorite yet! Not exactly new info but and sorry to any lurking SFers – but it just might be slightly more telling than the usual ‘love triangle everyone loves everyone’ spin they’ve been putting on it in every other interview. I’m calling it now, that WW is clever enough to recast a curse that takes something other than TLK to break it and we get our CS absolute, undeniable confirmation well before the finale.

Thought I’d check in for everyone with a voting update we’re holding at 65% doing well 2 more days of this round I’m sure we can hold on until then. I’m so happy so many of my shipmates are helping us in this contest and how good the reception has been to supporting all the Once ships in the tournament. I’ve been through this thing before and truthfully having the most popular ships on the show was the best thing that could have happened for all our ships. Working together we can team up and take out the tougher competition believe me it’s just as important that our other ship make it through each round so keep up those votes across the board 🙂
