hey POM! It’s ok, you can say it. Our pirate is winning you over. He does that.
I agree with everything you have to say about Neal & Emma’s relationship. On paper, Mom, Dad & child sounds great. But that’s not always the case. I think that A&E are very deliberately showing us that they all love each other and will always be family, but Emma and Neal just can’t be together. For the reasons you gave. To quote Emma, quoting Henry “a hero would come back.” And he didn’t. Maybe if Emma weren’t the savior, it’d be different. But when you have the life she has, and the responsibilities she has, you need someone you can trust 100%. Neal made the decision to leave. It was a poor decision. I firmly believe Neal could have done things differently. But neither Emma nor Neal can change that fact, and they both have to live with it. The one huge problem I have with the plotholes and whatnot in the show is the whole ‘Neal had to leave or bad things would happen.’ What bad things? Worse than going to jail for a crime you didn’t commit and feeling like you had to give up your child? After spending 17 or so years going from house to house and never having a home?
Captain Hook and the sea. Captain Hook wouldn’t be happy with Emma & Henry because he loves the sea so much…
This is probably one of the arguments I hate the most when someone argues Captain Hook or CS. I think the writers have been clear – Killian Jones was a man of ‘good form’ – he literally walked the line of the straight and narrow. There was good and bad, heroes and villains – and absolutely no grey. And he was likely this way because his father left as a kid, I don’t believe we’ve ever been told about his mother, and was essentially lost but for his brother. Hook became a pirate because he lost that brother, his only family, in doing something for a king he learned was corrupt. Literally his entire life was destroyed.Why did Killian join the navy in the first place? Because that’s where his brother was. “I would follow you to the ends of the earth, brother.” That’s what this man does. He commits himself to those he loves. When his brother dies, he’s completely lost – he’s going to make a career change? He needs to hang on to what little he has left, and the JR is one of the few things he has to remind him of his brother. He’s not about to give that up.
Does that necessarily mean he wants to travel the seas forever? No. The scene between Hook & Charming in 3×12 is not Hook saying he wants to go home. It’s Hook saying he’s just lost the person that’s most important to him, and being with her family and so many people that remind him of Emma is too painful. So, he’s going to look for the one thing that can give him some peace. His ship. Because if he has a goal, maybe a small piece of him will focus on that goal and not the fact that he just lost the one person he dared to love in 300 years, other than Bae, who was lost to him long ago.
Hook’s idea of happiness is not being a so-called pirate. It’s not sailing the seas. It’s the same thing that Emma’s looking for – family. Home. A place to feel welcome and loved, and to love in return.

Emma’s primary love will always be Henry, not matter who else she choses to love. As for Hook’s wanderlust, that’s a non-issue because as long as this show is on the air, there will always be an adventure for them to follow. We know that Emma was also never been able to settle down until she found Storybrooke and her family. There’s no reason why Hook can’t do the same.

If not her, there will be someone or something else. There will always be something else. We can’t let it define us. We have to find the good moments in between all of the bad ones.

@obisgirl, what I mean is Hook has a strong love for the sea. He may give up pirating as such but he’d still want to sail rather than being stuck on dry land until the end of his days. Maybe Emma and Hook could go on monthly sailing trips then both get what they want, Hook isn’t completely cut off from the sea, Emma gets to be with her family for most of the time, Henry gets chance to see all his parents if he stays behind whilst Hook and Emma are off sailing. Everybody wins.
The easy way out for this (in my mind), is rebuilding Snowing’s castle by the massive inland lake/ocean – win, win for all then 😉

Taken from Once spoilers FB pageI accept that head canon too @surayya 🙂 We got the CS theme again tonight. I really can’t wait for the 3rd volume of the OUAT soundtrack. It’ll be really nice to know the official name for that theme. I was thinking originally, maybe it’s called Kindred Spirits but now, I’m thinking it would be better if it’s called The Pirate and the Princess.
FYI, Han and Leia’s theme is Han Solo and the Princess.
Ok, our pirate was being a little bit of a pooper scooper in that first scene at MM’s apt…although, yeah, I’d probably still be a little irritated to find out the girl I crossed realms to save was about to marry a monkey. So…he’s forgiven. 🙂
But that CS scene! Holy geez, it was so good! I think Hook’s going to stay just far away to let Emma make the choice and come to him, but I really like that he understands her well enough to know she’ll stay in her comfort zone and avoid it at all costs…and he’s going to make that little zone very uncomfortable indeed.
I wonder if Hook hadn’t come back in NYCS, and Walsh had still proposed if Emma would have said yes. I don’t think she would. Emma needs a challenge and that was Monkey Man’s mistake – he didn’t challenge her. He was a yes-man. That kind of support is nice for a little while, but Emma especially needs someone who is going to stand up to her, push her, force her to face her fears, while supporting her, and Walsh was not that guy…or monkey. I’d like to think she made the choice not to marry Walsh because on some level she did realize that, not because Hook had come back.
