ParticipantOkay, I may be the only person here willing to cut Emma some slack..
I hope next week does start a big turnaround at least with regard to Hook after she hopefully sees what he did to get to her. My problem with Emma is mostly that she is so focused on her own suffering and does not always consider others. It also seems like she is trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy by pushing until people just give up and then she can say to herself “see I was right.” One of the reasons why my husband stopped watching the show is he just didn’t find Emma very likeable overall, which I can understand why some people might feel that way. Despite my quibble this episode she did seem genuinely grateful and even surprised after her sarcastic comment to Hook, which I liked. Hook has done a lot for her without asking anything return and it is nice to see her appreciate it more. I think she is finally realizing that he is actually there for the long haul 🙂
I am writing to jump into that, and am offering a different perspective. I don’t think Emma is mean. I think Emma is scared. She has been hurt so much, has been through so much in her life, and has seen so many people hurt and lost, that she’s afraid to invest her heart. The way she’s treating Hook is not the result of aggression.
Okay, so I do agree that Emma does not mean to be mean and that it is not out of a place of aggression. It does sometimes come off as dismissive. Luckily Hook understands her better than anybody 🙂
I am looking forward to the next episode but it does seem kind of a mish mash. Hook seems to be dealing with Ariel, Blackbeard, AND Zelena. I am hoping it makes more sense later as I didn’t like the insinuation that Hook was out sleeping around instead of looking for Emma. I am wondering if this is going to include scenes pre-curse 1.0 since Ariel as a mermaid post-curse 1.0 doesn’t seem to make sense since she had the bracelets and Eric? The promo dept cheated a little and used scenes from 3×06 with Snow/Ariel. Tricky tricky

ParticipantThanks for the sneak peek, Obisgirl! I’ll be watching that, here in just a moment.
Hopefully, a Youtube version will be available soon so all Oncers can watch.

ParticipantI think what’s really going to make Emma consciously realize , and maybe act, on her feelings toward Hook is going to be his growing relationship with Henry. I don’t see him backimg down from her when it comes to Henry. Which, frankly, she needs.
One of the things that drives me nuts is people’s view that Hook gave Bae to Pan. Hook did the only thing he could do. His “thank you for reminding me” line was a mask. Bae was a 14 year old kid who wanted OFF THAT BOAT. So Hook’s options were 1) keep him prisioner on the JR 2) let Bae off on his own or 3) let Bae and Pan believe he was turning Bae over to Pan. Why did he choose 3? Because it was the best option for Bae. Pan wanted Bae. Bae wasnt going to last a minute on NL by himself. BUT if he feels betrayed by Hook Bae might willingly align himself with Pan…keeping Bae in Pan’s good graces…keeping Bae as safe as he possibly could. And I dont doubt for a second that Hook didnt continue to watch over Bae even after he gave Bae over. Is it a great choice? No. Does Hook regret it? Yes. But there wasnt exactly a good choice among the 3.
Ok enough ranting about Bae. Back to Emma and her feelings for Hook! She’s already almost there. She practically announced from the rooftops that Hook found her/saved her. Giving him due credit for it…the old Emma would not be so willing to admit she needed help/saving.

ParticipantHmm.. I didn’t like that Sneak Peek very much…
Hook: You can’t just pretend this never happened… Trust me. I spent the last year trying to do just that..return to the person I used to be and it didn’t work!
Soooo he did spend part of the last year trying to forget about Emma 🙁

ParticipantOkay, I may be the only person here willing to cut Emma some slack. She’s just lost Neal, is lying to her son, has the WW to contend with, and had her whole world (a year with great memories) ripped from under her in less than a week. Yeah, her attitude is starting to grate on me but I think (fingers crossed) next week will mark a turn around for her. Once she sees exactly what the cost was for Hook to come back and “save her” she’ll realize that this guy is worth losing her heart over.
I hope your right. I think what has everyone so annoyed is that she takes advantage of his dedication to her and is crossing the line into b***h.
The promo annoyed me. I don’t care if it was a year and he was lost without Emma, I sincerely doubt he’d go back to his philandering ways, like they’re implying
– I think you are right… he wouldnt do that. Maybe a flashback? reminded me of the scene when Milah hung out in the tavern with them.
SHE GAVE HIM HER HEART!!!! SQUEEEEEE!!!!!
lol – I think you just summed up that scene perfectly. SQUEEEEEEE
Emma is NEVER — repeat after me, N E V E R — going to turn into some fluffy lovebunny for the sake of a ship.
hahaha – cant even picture that – EVER. lol. I dont think anyone is expecting this… not a snow balls chance in h***, but she is being extreme even for Emma. i think the issue is that Emma is hard to begin with, closed off, etc… because of the experiences of her life. Which is beyond understandable… But she is not the only one who has been abandoned, had a rough go of it, lost family and loves, children… but she wants to act like she is the only one who’s life has sucked. And I think we all can understand how these life events have shaped Emma but to abuse the one person who is there for you seems counter productive. Does she have to love him, nope. Does she have to spend time with him, no. Can she only have a professional relationship – of course. But she should give him some respect… anything that she asks, advice, assistance, law enforcement/defense related tasks, etc… he does. She should be able to handle being civil to him… other than that, no she owns him nothing. But that respect for being a human being and an ally is what we are annoyed regarding, because it seems to be lacking and it goes beyond lack of respect into offensive swipes…
There won’t BE a declaration, because actions speak louder than words. Emma doesn’t make the big declarations unless she thinks it’s her last chance to do so. She’s not gonna just randomly say she’s falling for Hook, she’s going to show it in other ways — ways that are OBVIOUS, if you pay attention and if you know her at all. Regina, in this episode, entrusted Robin with her heart. Likewise, Emma entrusted Killian with her son. It’s the same thing. Emma needs and wants Killian around, and you can bet your ass if he was gone, she’d feel that loss acutely.
i’m sure you have all our agreements here – but again, she should be able to just hold back the rudeness. no one is asking her to fall to her knees with some big declaration of love. we all know that will never happen… lol Emma probably thinks every holiday is a Hallmark Holiday – no stuffed Teddy Bears for Hook. lol
Yeah, she keeps her walls up, and she makes her quips and uses sarcasm as a weapon.
very true – but none of us are looking for her to reciprocate… we know she is not ready for that but there is no need to attack and use personal jabs…
He wouldn’t be half so enamored of her if she was anything less than the tough lass that she is, the one who bested him from moment one. He’s in it for the long-haul, remember?
lol – yes, Hook is not looking for a shrinking violet and he is nothing if not patient.
Anyone who thinks she doesn’t care about him is fooling themselves. Anyone who expects her to behave any differently hasn’t been paying attention. This is the ship. Take it or leave it, but this is exactly what I signed up for when CS took hold. And I wouldn’t have it — or her — any other way.
We all know she cares – even if she doesnt or just wont admit it. i think she is justified in her walls and her emotional issues and lack of commitment and even her avoidance… but i dont think that entitles anyone – even the almighty Savior, to attack an ally and friend when her stress is up. All for the slow and steady with CS – just not the hostility that she directs at him. Not Cool.

Participantbut it didn’t work. He found that he couldn’t move on from her. That has to count for something.

ParticipantThough I agree with most of that I think there is a difference between turning into a sparkly unicorn love bunny and showing basic respect when someone is being emotionally open to you. I always considered myself more of an Emma fan than a Hook fan but perhaps I have to re-evaluate that stance lol.
My recent issues with her though deal with more than just Hook. As a mother I can relate to her wanting to protect Henry from the danger of the fairytale world but to insist on denying him to even know about the huge family he has, as well as denying those same people time with Henry just smacks of selfishness to me. The reason I say that is because she has taken away Henry’s option to choose, which is something that she seems to highly value for herself. I think this is because she knows he will want to stay. I also think she has other reasons for leaving Storybrooke besides Henry’s safety. This is of course all just in my opinion though and how I see her character and the show.

I think so but I think it adds fuel to the fire.

I agreed Jenna B… Hook was in a lose lose situation… at least this way everyone stayed on Pan’s good side, Bae wasnt trekking around a dangerous island himself with no skills, and Hook’s crew was kept safe.
